Chest has very nice carved feet front and back with bowed top as well as bowed front. It measures approx 22" tall including swivel mirror. 12 1/4" wide at feet, and 9" deep at feet and has 2 small drawers at top and l larger drawer at bottom. Mirror is in fine condition. The small drawers each measure approx 5 3/8" x 4" x 2 1/2" deep. The one on the right has a smaller pull than the others but it appears to have been put on at the same time. Bottom drawer measures approx 9 3/8" x 8" x 3 3/8" deep. Bottom drawer has original lock(no key) and is lined with a silver color paper which appears to be very old. This is a wonderful old piece- I believe it to be about 1920 It has 2 handkerchief drawers on the top. There are 2 drawers side by side and below those. 2 large drawers. The drawer pulls are wood. There grooves in the 2 small drawers and in the bottom drawers. On the sides of the chest. There are grooves again, nice detail. When it is upside down the bottom is the bottom of the last drawer. Only one side of the center drawer is dovetailed, it was easier and cheaper to make that way. The salesman had the one corner as an example to show his customers. Condition: Really very good. There are no splits in the outside wood. A couple of the drawers have wood ... moresplits(inside) The corner of the back right facing leg was broken off. But it looks like someone shaped it. It is not noticeable unless you compare the sides. There is a stain in one drawer see photo. All of the drawers slide easily. It needs a good cleaning. Look at all the photos and ask questions. antique doll trunk salesman sample Victorian chest circa 1890
Up for auction is a refinished antique doll trunk or salesman sample chest. This little trunk measures 15inches long by 8 inches deep and 8 inches high. There was no tray with this trunk when found but one was built for it out of oak and poplar. The trunk itself is made from pine and is metal bound. All the metal has been hand burnished but enough of the patina has been left to preserve the antique character of the piece. The lock is an Eagle lock and the latches function but are no longer spring loaded. The trunk has been refinished in a golden oak stain with multiple coats of sealer both inside and out. The original covering has been left on the underside to give a sense of the original look. The trunk is in overall good shape but because it is over 100 yrs old there are dings. American Classical Mahogany Miniature Chest of Drawers c.1830 Salesman's Sample Please review payment& shipping policies before bidding. This attractive miniature chest of drawers was made c.1830. A barrel shaped drawer tops three smaller drawers. All finely dovetailed. The wonderful pressed glass knobs are original and add a little sparkle when the light hits them. The lower drawers are designed to open only when the top drawer is opened. When the top drawer is locked the entire case is secured.I do have the very nice steel& brass key) The face of the drawers is veneered in flame mahogany. The sides and top are solid woods. The case sits atop four turned ball feet. This chest is in very good overall condition with light wear and an older refinish. There are two small chips in the veneer. It's got just about everything going for it in both a folky and country way. Definitely one of the best of I've seen or had the pleasure to sell. It measures approx. 9" tall to the chest top. With the addition of a 2" splashboard. Approx. 10" wide and 6" deep. FRESH, FRESH, FRESH from a Northern NH estate and quite likely NH made. The cut out base is just awesome! Country elegance with folky charm. 3 drawers, with the top 2 being slightly graduated in size over the ... morebottom drawer. Original finish and just the way you'd like to find a piece like this. And the drawer pulls are incredible! Definitely original to the piece. Definitely brass hardware with what I think is inset sculpted and painted tin encased in a clear cover. Not quite sure if the cover over the insets is a thin piece of glass or not. Nice square-head nails all around, including the drawer sides. The splashboard is definitely original to the piece, but it has been reattached at some point as evident by different nails(not recently though) Wonderful early backboard, although I do believe there are a couple backboard pieces missing. Don't believe it's been cut down at all because the height of the feet is proportionate to the height of the cut outs on the base. There are 2 early screws on the backside of the front cut out and a couple small cracks. This is not visible when the piece is sitting and not certain whether the cracks and screws occured during making or after. Piece is solid as ever, great patina, just the right amount of dust on the edge of the inset panels on each side, stunning! Beautifully crafted I believe the wood is mahogany and it is finished in a medium brown red tone. Somewhat cherry in color. Appears to have all original brass pulls and hardware including the tiny key that works. Three same sized drawers are 10 1/2 x 6 inches in depth by 3 inches in height. Overall size of chest is 15 inches tall by 15 inches wide by 9 inches in depth. As to condition I note a few minor dings and dents but all edges are smooth. The sky blue velvet inserts obviously were added later and this was used as a jewelry box present day. I note the wood cracked back panel as photos show but piece is structurely sound. could have been a salesman sample piece. Since I am not an expert on furniture styles) It is an older piece of unknown age with dove tail joints that are hand made. An eBayer has just informed me that it is American made and dates to an era between1835 and 1840 and be based his information looking at the dovetails and the bottom of this piece. This piece might have been a salesman. Tradesman or apprentice sample and it might have also been a sample of a future wedding furniture gift. In older times it was a custom to give to the newly weds a miniature of a piece of furniture that was being ... moreordered as a present. Or it might be a jewelry box or a doll chest of drawers furniture. The wood in the piece is a combination of solid and veneered mahogany depending on where it is. The backing is plywood and it seems it was added later. The top and the bottom are serpentine shaped as well as the hidden drawer. There are 3 drawers of decreasing size + 2 smaller drawers above which there is a hidden drawer. The hidden drawer has a book matched front. Beneath the hidden drawer and the two small drawers and the next drawer there are three dust boards. There isn't a dust board between the two last drawers. Although the rails are there. The bottoms of the drawers are carved in order to make them better fitting and sliding. The key holes are brass and at one time there must have been a lock on the bottom drawer since there are the remnants of the carvings to fit the lock. The eight tiny pulls are 3/8" in diameter x 1/2" deep. It has 4 bun feet. The total height of this chest is 12 3/4" tall x 12 7/8" wide and 6 1/4" deep. This is a stunningly rare antique authentic handmade salesman sample miniature travel domed top trunk. It is a very small model made by hand to be able to easily transport from potential client to client for sales rather than carrying a heavy. Large, original sized trunk. It is beautifully made with an abundance of nice detailing and many different materials. it is made from wood. MINIATURE American Empire Mahogany Veneer Chest Drawers Salesman Sample 19th C
This is a charming 19 th century flame mahogany veneered miniature American Empire chest of drawers. It measures 12 ¼” wide x 7” deep x 12” tall. It has tiny inlaid wood patterns at the top of each side to replicate carved wood. It even has a small brass lock that appears to be a working lock. Though there’s no key to test it. I imagine this miniature chest was built as a salesman’s sample or an apprentice piece. Please see all photos to get a full sense of the condition of this chest. The finish on the right side is crackling and rough and has splits in wood. There’s a split around a knot of the left side of the chest. The top has a thin split and a knot in the wood. MINIATURE Walnut Stained Chest of Drawers with Marble Top Salesman Sample c 1900
This is a larger sized miniature chest of drawers that measures 16” wide x 8 ¾” deep x 14 ¾” high. It has four drawers and a heavy green marble inset top– note that the marble is simply inset in the top and can be removed. Though it fits perfectly(see photos of the top with and without the marble inset) The chest has fluted wood columns on the sides of the drawers with small metal Doric style capital and bases. The knobs are a turned metal. The chest sits on bun feet. This chest was probably made as a salesman sample or apprentice piece– or perhaps for a child for her dolls? The detail is amazing and it’s very well made. I’m not sure of its age. Though I would estimate sometime between 1890 and 1910. This doll chest is in good condition. It has definate aged appearance and patina. There are two areas on the inside where the wood is split to the outside(one on the top and one on the inside backing) scratches and faded areas of original black decorative decor. The bottom has a couple nails sticking out. There is rusting on the decorative brass fixtures. There is some fraying of the wood in various areas and some holes that do not protrude to the outside of the box. There are handles on either side of the box. It appears that the tray and handles were added and are not original to the chest. Very nice and decorative detail ... moreand appeal. Inside original interior paper is mostly gone. It feels like is made out of wood and the stuff atique trunks are made out of it has had the lock cut out and reattached the handle part there is a hole you can see from last pics. Looks like besides lock part has tipical wear from age I would consider in nice antique condition. Has nice leather straps some metal has dents.
