Metal slip on hooks, original stripped cushions. I love this piece.and, remember using something similar when I went canoeing with my grandfather. After a little research, I found that this was made by the Tucker Duck& Rubber Co. of Fort Smith, Arkansas.I can see a slight essence of the marking on the back but it is very hard to see just the Made by Tucker.the rest is pretty much gone. Both the top and bottom have five wood slats and I an unsure of the type of wood. The wood slats are rounded at the top and has a nice thick trim at the bottom. It is portable and folds, it has metal joints for folding and metal rounded pieces on the bottom portion to slide onto a bench or canoe seat to keep the chair in place. There are the original cushions included which are multi-colored stripes. The top and bottom cushions have corner flaps to put over the slats, which works on the top but are not needed for the bottom. The cusions are dirty. The wood is in good condition and the only area where there is a crack is at one of the joints where there is a crack up the external wood piece where the metal joint is bolted in.it runs up the wood, not across, but still seems sound however, I would recommend suring it up a bit. I have attached a picture. It measures 19 1/2" long when it is closed, the seat and the back is 15 1/2" wide, the back is 17 1/2" tall and the bottom is 16 1/2" long, the metal slide on pieces are 4" deep. Sold As Is. Antique VICTORIAN Era Monitor Top STEAMER Trunk w/ Wood Slats CONSERVED/Restored
Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. ... moreover the top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age as it is over 100 years old. No rotted metal or holes present. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. Antique Steamer Trunk, 7 dome oak wood slats- replacement parts
These are 7 dome top trunk slats removed from an old trunk. This is one of those trunks I saved for my garden. These are probably before 1890 because there are pairs of nail holes. In the mid 1890s there was a change to only 1 nail where the 2 had been before to save money. These slats have both double nail holes and single nail holes but they came from the same trunk top. These need to be cleaned and refinished. See photos for condition. I think I labeled the picture correctly. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border. I picked this up at a Pa. estate sale this past weekend. I couldn't believe the original. Working key was still here. It's a flat top with the slightest raise in the center, so, not completely flat. It's adorned with wood slats. Take notice of the stenciling on the leather trim attached with studs. On the inside you will see the original paper lining. The leather handles are torn off but some pieces were saved and are inside. see pic) Maybe you can patch them up. The top straps are also missing. And part of the buckle is there. Antique STEAMER TRUNK It is canvas covered wood with metal trim and hardware. Old leather handles replaced with metal handles. The latch needs a couple rivets, but all the hardware is there. Slightly domed top. Still strong and functioning with latch for pad-lock mechanism firmly in place. This antique steamer trunk is from around the turn of the 19th century. Antique Barrel-Top Steamer Trunk - w/vertical wood slats,well-preserved, V. NICE
Here pictured is an antique barrel-top steamer trunk. Measures approx. 37" across. 21.5" back-to-front, and 25" high(from base to top of barrel arch) Made of vertical slats(approx. 1.75" wide) Has a compartment inside the lid. Two(2) Railway Express Co. stickers grace one end. Casters(original, I believe) on bottom. The amber glass coasters seen in the photos are NOT the casters; the amber glass coasters are there just to keep the trunk off the rug, but you can have them, if you like) One leather strap is missing; the remaining one is intact, but split. The lock is by Eagle Lock Co. Terryville, Conn. USA, but there is no key, sorry. The interior needs some work, as you can see. The exterior has been preserved nicely; oiled but NOT painted. all original with tray. very heavy thick leather. side handles and straps are good. front handle and straps have come apart. there is some staining inside and damage to the corner. this is an old trunk

30 width x 18 sides x 20 height Inside is 3 chromolithographed sections. Outside is metal with wooden slats. Both fasteners work on front. Leather handles on sides missing. Wheels on bottom. Good condition over all but some rust areas( not major)

Great vintage trunk with great wide wood slats over pattered metal. It has a slight dome or curved shape to top. It's missing one the lifting straps onside. But the hardware is there for an easy repair. It has original owners name, P.E. Pierce, stenciled on one side as well. It measures 30" wide across front. 18" deep front to back. and 21" tall at highest point. It has 98% of it's original decorated paper inside. The hinges on back had come and have been repaired with new hardware, making it very secure. It has original cloth strap to hold it open. Please see many photos for best condition report. Local pickup is preferred, but shipping is available.
