International buyers welcome! This auction is for a really neat antique folk art dome top green painted immigrant trunk. This piece does have writing on the front. But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. The large front center hinge lock works fine but I do not have a key for this trunk and don't know if the lock works. Both of the side front locks have issues but display well. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. The hinges are dated Dec. 22, 1891. Measuring approx. 32-1/4" wide x 18-3/4" x 20-3/4" tall. The lid is supported by a metal corner bracket that keeps the lid up nicely when the trunk is open. The wooden tray has the original metal finger lifts on each side so you can easily lift the tray out of the trunk. The inside floor of the trunk is wood but underneath the trunk is metal with the original metal rollers that act as little feet and move the trunk along easily. This piece has a lot of character I have seen people put wallpaper inside these trunks to match their room. Leave it clean wood or paper it your choice. All the locks and accessories are original we did not get a key. The metal corner ... morepieces are all in tact ~ Nice piece to store your woolies ~ take a look.
