All of the leather is original. It has the original Brass Lock with a star pattern. The key is included and the trunk does lock. The trunk automically locks when you close the lid. If the key is not present. The key must be in the lock and turned to the unlocked position to open the trunk. Measures approximately 30" Wide(without the side straps) by 17" Deep by 15" High. Stained a Medium Brown- Base is made from Pine with Oak Slats. It does have a crack on the top. But to me, this just adds to its appeal. Other than a few very minor scratches. Antique ca.1890 Flat top Metal Covered Steamer Trunk
This is a ca.1890 antique flat top steamer trunk. It is steel-covered that has been painted black and floral embossed dark green and bound with oak slats. All of the steel hardwear including the brass lock and the latches are original. The leather handles have been replaced. The key is missing. It has fancy embossed slat clamps and two fingered edge clamps. The bottom has four roller wheels. It is 30"x 18.5"x 23"tall and weighs 45 lbs. The interior which is all original and has not been touched. Is fitted with a lidded tray, hat box and three lovely victorian prints. The only part that is missing is the lid for the right hand box. Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1890-1910 This is a versatile and attractive trunk from the turn of the century. A solidly constructed steamer made of wood, trimmed with embossed alligator tin, and featuring a lid with only a slight arc. It’s 34 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and 22.5 inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and two slats on the front and back. It has new thick black leather handles and a new lid stay– otherwise in original condition. The alligator pattern has been refinished in a rich. Reddish brown that is darker than it may appear in the flash photos. Although there is no evidence of its manufacturer. It was purchased for restoration in Maine, and its design and appointments mirror those of trunks produced in the Northeast between ... more1890 and the early 1900s. The bottom has been cleaned. Painted, and sealed with polyurethane so it safely sits on floors or carpets. The trunk is solid and clean and has absolutely no stale or musty odors. The hinges are tight and the lid fits securely when closed, yet opens easily. Although there is no key, and the lock does not work, the latches operate correctly. The inside has been cleaned. Sanded, and finished with golden oak stain and tung oil so it’s ready for use as storage or display. In addition to new leather handles. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. The only parts I notice missing on the exterior are one of the leather handles and it did not come with a key. There is a name written on the right side. See photos to judge condition. It has its caster wheels. Overall it is very nice and I believe everything is original. The inside seems to be original and in very good shape for the age. Up for auction is a remarkable refinished antique steamer trunk circa 1890-1895 in fabulous condition. The trunk comes with its original tray which has been fitted with a new wood bottom. The interior of the trunk has been completely cleaned of its old coverings. The wood sanded, stained and sealed with 3 coats of sealer. The old musty smell is gone replaced with a new finish scent that will disappear over time. The sealer was water based so not nearly the odor is left inside. All the metal on the trunk has undergone a three part process to bring back luster but still retain the antique character of the piece. The newly exposed wood exterior of the trunk has been sanded, stained and sealed with multiple coats(i lost count) of a high grade oil based sealer which resulted in a furniture like finish which will stand up,with care, for many years. ... moreNew premium grade leather handles were installed and end caps re-installed just as the original were with with nails turned back into the wood. The bottom of the trunk was cleaned, a rust inhibitor applied to the metal, then primed and everything sealed. The lock on this trunk is original. It is an Excelsior lock made in Newark NJ and the key locks it with a nice click. This trunk was originally sold by the Charles William Stores which was a mail order house located in New York City. This company was in operation before being bought out from 1860 to sometime in the 1920's. The original metal tag identifying the store remains on the trunk. On the tag is a registration number identifying the owner and states if the trunk is separated from the owner, contact(write in those days) the store and the name of the owner will be known. Quite unique for the day. This just a great antique trunk and can be displayed proudly in any home. It measures 32 inches long by 20 inches wide by 23 inches high. The lid has a slight arch. Large Refinished Slightly Curved Top Trunk ANTIQUE Ca. 1890's
Up for auction to day we have a large(34.5 x 21 x 22 inches) trunk that has been refinished inside and outside. The old dried canvas was removed to highlight the wood underneath. Sanded a handful of times, then treated with natural stain, tung oil, then a few coats of satin polyurethane. The metal work was painted flat black then sealed with the poly. This trunk is heavy, about 45-50 pounds. Husband lined the inside with wood, making it nice and clean and ready to store anything you like. Great for boots, winter blankets, you name it. Trunk is a great size for under a window for plants or in the bedroom or office as a table. Being that it has a very slight curved top. Still useful for magazines, books, plants, and your coffee cup or glass of wine. Top of trunk is a different wood than the body and is lighter. Beautiful 1890's Antique Steamer Trunk Very nice larger sized antique trunk from the 1880's- 1890's. This trunk has been 100% professionally restored and is absolutely beautiful. The hardware and metal banding has all be cleaned and polished with a wire wheel and really looks nice against the oak slats and pine body. The top has a slight dome to it so this is not a true flat top trunk. Very solid trunk all around. Heavy wood construction, thick metal banding, hardware, and accents. Very nicely built, hinges are strong, all hardware is included. This trunk has more decorative hardware than your typical trunk from this period and the"fingers" that wrap all the corner edges really add a nice touch. Up for consideration is Antique"Jenny Lind" old Stage Coach Traveling Trunk or Steam Trunk. It has the inner tray. This item is in original aged condition at present-These trunks look simply beautiful when restored and polished up. Item is structurally sound and made of oak and pine covered with a leather exterior with steel bands going around it. It has brass buttons and a old iron lock face on the front. The leather handles are missing on the ends and the lock is non-operational. And without a key. When we found this item it was full of old personal items. Bonnets and papers. The bottom was lined with the paper shown in the picture. It was published in Jackson Ohio in 1894. Completely refinished antique dome top trunk. I installed new double ply stitched leather handles. very strong) made by local amish here in central PA. The exterior was cleaned, brushed& sealed for protection as well as conservation, I leave the cracks& dents to preserve the character that the trunk has ocumulated over the many years. New high end fabric for the interior was put on after stripping, cleaning, brushing, drying and sealing the interior. some say fabric was not used for the interior originally, but I have seen it on occasions and always in much better shape then wall paper, so for personal preference and long lasting I choose fabric for most of my projects. I found one patent date on this trunk on the center lock of March 1890 which makes this neat old flat top as much as 124 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of clear, two original slats, four original metal wheels and the trunk rolls easily. The three original hinges are HD, fancy,tight and the lid closes well. There are 35 plus polished pieces of original hardware. Gorgeous ANTIQUE refinished Steamer Trunk Ca. 1890's
Up for auction today we have a recently refinished antique steamer trunk dating to the late 1800's early 1900's. This style trunk is slightly curved at the top. Very slight in fact, and useful as a coffee table, plant stand, side table or even for a printer or other electronics. The original old trunk was found with old dried brown canvas and we carefully removed it- sanded the trunk smooth, and applied natural tung oil, two coats, then a coat of clear shellac. This trunk is gorgeous and is very useful for home or office. The inside has been freshly lined with brand new cotton floral fabric. Here are a few more details: Four slats on the top. Metal hardware on edges of trunk. Brass wash on the metal. With bulbous ends- these were helpful in moving the trunk from side to side. Replaced leather handles with 100 year old endcaps. Authentic Antique Louis Vuitton Trunk Rare Hat Trunk ? 1890's
Here we have an amazing AUTHENTIC trunk by Louis Vuitton. This is in good. Sound condition although the outside covering has deteriorated over the years. Every brass tack is marked Louis Vuitton the lock is marked Louis Vuitton even the wood across the bottom has Louis Vuitton embossed. This measures 24 inches by 15 inches tall. It is 11inches front to back. Amazingly it still retains its inside tray and the Louis Vuitton tag. The tray measures 22.5" by 9.5" and is 6.5" deep. The trunk weighs 19.5 pounds. I cannot find a serial number, perhaps someone can tell me where to look? It does have a key number which is 02077. The hardware is marked Btf SCDG PATENT 1 RUE SCRIBE PARIS, LOUIS VUITTON London 149 New Bond Street. Made in France. It is musty smelling( from age and the Northwest) and has many many stains but it is not wet ... moreand it is sturdy and maintains its integrity. Antique WILLIAMSON Military Trunk/ Gun Case/ Chest c.1890- Coffee Table Ref: This is a substancial Trunk/ Travel Chest made or retailed by WILLIAMSON& SONS who traded as a tin plate metal works in Worcester during the latter part of the 19th Century. The trunk measures approximately 41" long. Stands 11" high and is about 14 1/2" 105cm x 27cms x 37cms) and is very heavy, weighing well over 15Kgs. The trunk carries the maker's name on the hasp. The trunk is of heavy gauge metal construction. With black lacquer/japanned finish. It has a very good quality brass lock/latch which is in good working condition with key(key is probably a replacement) The latch doubles as a hasp. So can be double locked with a padlock. Furthermore, the"Staple" slides(left to right) and acts as a third locking mechanism, retaining and ... morelocking the lid at both ends. Which I understand makes it likely it was used as a gun cabinet/case, possibly for military use. Internally. The trunk retains it's original painted/lacquer finish and section divider. It also has loops, presumably for strapping contents. The lid has a leather seal inside the rim(see photos) which we assume was designed to keep moisture at bay? The trunk is physically complete. However, as you would expect for a trunk of this age, it has had some use and is showing signs of age related wear to the finish and a few minor dents etc but nothing serious(see photos) The hinges are complete an in good working condiition and the lid snaps into the open position, held by stays at both ends. As mentioned above this trunk was probably used as a gun case/cabinet and was obviously bolted either to the floor or wall. As evidenced by the bolt holes in the bottom of the case. Although well used. The trunk is nevertheless complete and an interesting example. Considering it's age, overall condition is pretty good, so there is scope for improvement, possibly for use as a coffee table or similar. completely refinished flat top steamer trunk from the 1890s the exterior has been stripped. Sanded, cleaned, brushed, dried and sealed with a quality satin finish. I have installed a pair of double ply leather handles made by the local Amish here in central Pennsylvania. The interior has been stripped. Sanded, brushed clean, dried and sealed with a quality finish before covering it with fabric. I also added a border and a period correct copy of a lithograph often found inside trunks. Some say fabric was never used but I have seen it on rare occasions and always in much better shape then your typical wall paper. so for personal preference and long lasting I usually use fabric to finish my projects. I always stay in the period when replacing a part. Nails, rivets, style of handles etc, I will however use modern fasteners if they are not visible ... moreon the finished project. this particular trunk measurements are 32 1/2" side to side. 19 1/2" back to front, 21 1/2" high. it does not have a key and will not lock by accident. Up for consideration is a Rare Flat Top Clinton Wall Trunk. It has a non working lock. New leather handles were put on. All wood and hardware has been sealed with a satin finish. The inside was tastefully recovered. It is marked in the cast hinges"Clinton Wall Trunk MFG.CO. Clinton Mass. Pat. Feb. 20. 1890. The measurements are: 35" long x 21" wide x 22 1/2" tall. Signs of age present– chips. Cracks, etc. Please see all photos for detailed description. This flat top. Canvas covered trunk is a style that was made by many American trunk companies from the 1890's to about 1920 based on the style of the Corbin hardware. These were made in many sizes and models, with the same or similar style locks and other hardware. Corbin and several other lock companies made trunk locks for the trunk makers, but they never made trunks. Lots of these trunks are found without a label for several reasons, such as some companies didn't put labels on all their trunks and some used outside ... moretags or even labels on the bottom that were soon worn off or lost. WE BELEIVE THE BRAND TO BE DECKER. Some did use metal name plates or paper interior labels. These were used by men and women as general travel trunks. Leather handles. 31 lbs. Very Old (circa 1890) Antique Homemade Trunk
A 94 year old lady recently gave this old homemade trunk to my son. She said it belonged to her Mother as a young girl which dates back to the late 1800s. I cannot be sure of the wood species but believe it to be wormy chestnut. Even though the locking mechanism is present there is no key. The dimensions are 28 X 13 1/2 X 12 1/2. The shipping weight is 21 lbs.

Antique Steamer Trunk-Dome Top-metal & wood bands-inside tray-circa 1890-1910
Antique dome-topped steamer trunk. Believed to be circa 1890-1910. Wood and most of the metal is in very good shape(could easily be refinished) however, the protective metal bands at corners have received some damage over many years of steamer-travel and freight-handling. The large interior tray is intact, and one of the lid-compartment doors is also intact. Note the decorative panel inside the lid, which is vibrant in color and unblemished. The interior of the trunk has the strong smell of cedar, so I'm assuming that tray construction is of cedar wood underneath the papered covering. Sorry but there is no key. The lid hinges close just slightly"off-center, but the trunk does close and latch securely with care. Can't see a maker's mark, but labels(where legible) indicate travel to NY, so assume it is of American origin.
