Antique Primitive Pine Lift Top Trunk Painted Green Tool Chest Country Folk
Antique green lift top chest. Classic primitive or country style. It looks like it was made from pine and has a basic six-panel construction. The top is made from three framed boards with a raised piece on top. Iron side handles and a molded base. Paint looks original or at least very old. Interior has sections for holding things in the front and stepped sides to hold boxes up. There are also strips of gathered leather attached to the top that may have been for tools and a cut-out"L" shape that may have held a carpenter's square. So it seems likely that this trunk was probably a tool chest at some point. Trunk probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. There also appears to be some water damage to the finish ... moreand some water stains inside the trunk lid. The H hinges and side handles both show sign of rust, but are in solid condition and sturdy. The chest stands is 18" tall and measures 34.5" long and 22" wide. Antique & Primitive Six Board Footed Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Box, Trunk 47"
I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. Please do not ask for this item to be shipped. It is for local pick up only. No exceptions. A handling charge of $1.50 is included in the domestic shipping costs. Here is an exceptionally nicely proportioned chest with all original paint. It is dated 1860. However it may predate that date. Note the beautiful large round head hand forged strap hinge rosehead nail attachments. There are also square wooden pegs throughout. The interior is solid and has a"candle box" to the right. The dimensions are 42" wide by 25" tall and 21" front to back. Also note the quality touch of the small round wooden projectiles in the rear to keep the chest from hitting the wall and making the lid difficult to open. There is one rosehead nail that has an old replacement in the very rear. Also. The floor inside the chest is solid although the underside that rests on the floor shows wood loss from a decade ago. Here for auction is a beautiful pine trunk or fire trunk(so named because people stored their most valued possessions in a trunk so they could take it with them in case of fire) that came from the Bavarian region of Germany. The colors are very vibrant. There is a very large metal forged antique key and lock, and old forged hinges. The trunk is 47" long, 23" front to back, 24" tall, and the pine planks are 7/8 thick. When the lid is lifted, the additional storage drawer seen on the left side measures 4" wide, 3" deep and 20" long. Country Pine Folk Painted 1840's Antique Immigrant Trunk or Chest. Hand crafted in northern Europe in the 1840's. This picturesque immigrant trunk or chest is wormy pine with hand painted floral motifs resembling traditional Scandinavian rosemaling. Hand planed with hand cut corner dovetails. This furniture has a beautiful old finish. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. The interior is very clean. There is a compartment with a lift lid for valuables. Hand wrought iron mounts and handles are original, there are losses to the banding as shown. Early 1800s HAND PAINTED Pine Lift Top Commode - RARE Unusual Practical Storage
Great to use for media stand. Bed side table, end table. Top opens up so you can hide goodies in there. And there is storage in both the drawer and inside the bottom of the unit. The top is slightly warped. But doesn't hinder the functionality. Dimensions: Apx. 17" x 30" x 31" This cabinet dates c.1800-1820 and is probably made of pine. I've seen these online before for $200. But never a handpainted one. The paint is old old old and is crazed in places. Fourth photo shows a water markings in the wax. This can be removed with a good furniture cleaner or gritty toothpaste.
