Up for consideration is a rare. Restored, antique wall trunk. It has a working lock& key. It has dated hinges that read"Dec 22 1891" It has been cleaned well inside and out. A new covering was put inside to resemble the old, so no musty smell. All original hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. New leather handles were put on. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. ... moreover the top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. This antique steamer trunk has no identifying information; however. We believe it is from the 1800's. The trunk measures approximately 38" long x 26" high x 22.5" wide when closed. It is a fabric-covered chest with wooden ribbing and what would appear to be additional leather stripping. It also has metal corners and hardware. Our trunk is in need of repair and restoration. The lock is missing and the hinges in the back of the trunk require attention. The top must be held open so it does not fall back. The inside of the trunk shows signs of age and wear. This trunk is an amazing piece of history. This trunk has a little story behind it. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. Here is a fabulous antique American early 19th century Chippendale style footed pine blanket chest or trunk with drawers below. This delightful old trunk is 48 inches long by 21 1/2 inches front to back and 27 1/2 inches tall. The top chest is internally 44 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches front to back by 15 inches deep. With a small lidded compartment 18 1/4 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep as shown. The two lower drawers are hand dovetailed as shown in close ups and measure 20 1/4 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back by 4 inches deep. Again, as stated under condition, I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this great antique blanket chest. As far as provenance, my consignor has owned the trunk for a number of years and remembers ... moreonly that it was acquired through an estate sale. Specifically, this is what he told me was his recollection: The story I was told is that a woman named Bessie Hicks bought the trunk while visiting Muncie Valley PA in the 1950's after WWII. She brought it back to Atlanta GA where she lived. When her estate was broken up it made it's way to Miami and then to Charleston. He added. It appears to have some minor repairs around the feet. Also some sign of blue paint under the bottom. The lock is very fascinating and secured with rose head nails. Lock and key work nicely. That's about all I remember about it. Anyway. It's appearance is consistent with early 1800's Pennsylvania work in the Chippendale style so I chose to report this information. It is certainly a lovely antique blanket chest in very nice condition. Antique Oak Chest or Trunk c. 1800's Country Folk Primitives
Wonderful antique oak trunk or chest. Six-sided construction with molding around the bottom. Overhanging top has a raised panel inside a frame made using mortise and tenon joints. A small smooth notch has been carved into the front to allow the user to lower the lid without crushing their fingers. Sturdy wrap-around hinges hold the lid in place and interior corner-braces help keep the trunk solid. A more recent looking chain is also attached between the trunk body and lid. This piece has a ton of character and has definitely been put to use during its time. Probably dates from the mid to late 1800's Although it has some obvious wear. Great craftsmanship, there is a ton of detail available on this trunk. It's beautiful, and features an alligator skin"cover" over the center portion of the trunk, as well as on the sides. There's still the original victorian picture on the inside, and the tray is there as well. The trunk is damaged on the left hinge, and it appears someone at some point tried to fix it, but the wood split. Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. And a few cracks on the bottom. The chest measures 22" long X 10 1/2" wide. And sits 8" tall. If there are any questions please feel free to ask& I will answer them best I can. The front latch haas no key the 2 sides flap locks work right side needs a little adjusting but it will close. As you can see some one painted the black over on the side but top looks like it was not also leather handles on side look to be redone with brand new heavy duty strap handles. from left to right its 28 1/2 inches wide then front to the back its almost 15 1/2 inches long then top to bottom its around 20 inches tall. any questions please ask. Awesome 1800's Antique Sole Leather Trunk made by Haskell Bro's. Chicago IL. Perhaps one of a kind since I've never seen one exactly like it before and due to the fact, the original owner was a multi-millionaire(please read the history below) during that time period. This is definitely museum worthy! It is very structurally sound and in overall good condition! The primary leather has minor cracking which is to be expected for a trunk of this age. The leather is still very tight and secure. All stitching is tight as well. Which is quite remarkable! Haskell Bro's Makers Chicago is stamped into the leather on the top of the lid and is also visible on the brass locking latches. As you can see in the photos, the handles and a loop are worn off, but worthwhile to restore since all the studs are still there. The stud tacks appear ... moreto be hand hammered and all parts appear to be original. Extremely well made! The inside is lined with material with very few tears overall. Again. Quite remarkable for a Trunk that is well over 100 yrs old! There are no compartments inside. The wood slats are all in real good condition& the wood trim is as well. I'm unsure if it's oak, but I assume so. The bottom is in good condition, although as shown in the photo, there is a probable water stain. Included are leather travel straps. A leather handle, a buckle and two keys. I was told they are the original keys, however, one clearly says Hartmann. I have not tested these keys and am scared to out of fear they may get stuck when turning. I did however check to see if they went into the keyholes and both do easily. Measures 24" high. 20" wide and is 36" long. Please note. The top of the trunk appears in the pictures to be a bit"washed out, due to the excessive natural light. It is not washed out. Antique 1800's Hide Covered Stage Coach Trunk
You certainly don't see these every day! This is an OLD 1800's stagecoach trunk. It can easily be dated as you can see in the photos that it is lined with the Portsmouth Herald newspaper from 1840. Covered in either horse or cow hide. The hide has begun to pull away as it has dried out over the years but the majority of the hide is still in place. Leather strapping and edging. It measures 27" Long, 14" Wide and 12" High. The top is domed. The top part of the lock is gone but the bottom part remains. The hinges that hold the top on are gone. The hand forged handles are still present on both sides. This likely would have been a security" box that held valuables or guns. Just a note of interest: It is marked on the bottom"3. JW Williams, Washington, VA" Washington DC would have still been referred to as ... morebeing in Virginia. If you appreciate western history, stagecoaches or anything from that era, this is a must have! My wife, a history professor, attempted to research JW Williams and found a couple of men that if could of been but we couldn't nail it down definitively. One was an evangelist who was ordained in 1841(very near the date of the newspaper) and another was a gentleman who did famous portraits of presidents. He was known to have done some famous portraits of George Washington. Again, we can NOT document that this belonged to either of these gentlemen but it is interesting to think about. Posted with

Here is a fabulous 1800s"leather" Salesman sample(or doll) trunk in marvelous condition considering it is well over 100 years old. As the pictures show. It measures 18" wide X 11" tall X 11" deep and weighs 10 lbs. It is squeaky clean wood construction inside and out and has been cherished in our smokefree, petfree household for nearly 20 years. Has been in the family since the early 1970's. Features: Small wooden chest of square design with lovely red/brown lithograph paper bearing beautiful designs. Inside there is a removable. 2 compartment top tray. Tray rails are solid and existing. Tray fits firmly and is supported. All metal stays are solid and in place. Paper covering is original. No mildew or musty smells. Metal features are not damaged nor bent. Lid closes firm and completely aligned. Hinge tight. Straight and completely aligned. Inside. Hinge to keep lid from closing unexpectedly(I have not confirmed if hinge locks fully extended, but the lid holds itself up just fine with ... morethe hinge nearly extended to full position) Noteable known defects- see pictures. The size of a nickel came off and was stored inside the chest. I don't know where it came off from. It's included in case you wish to mend it somewhere. There is no foolery here! It HAD 70 years of dust on it and after a light cleaning here it is. This is an 1850's antique camel back wooden steamer trunk that spent some time on the WHITE STAR LINE's RMS OLYMPIC in 1927. This truck has 4 large CUNARD WHITE STAR LINE luggage claim stickers dated April 24th 1927 and the name Emily Whitehead on the label. The farmhouse estate sale that many of my current listed items are from were owned by the family of J. J. Whitehead. An adventurer/explorer/photographer that I am listing an antique Kalapalo Indian hunting bow. This man was an avid photographer and explorer and was traveling Brazil sometime in the 20's-30's ... morebased on photos. He looks like the original Indiana Jones to me. Photos include pictures of his wife and I believe this is her trunk. This is a very interesting story and if you have time. Please read that antique bow auction. Here is what appears to be his traveling trunk marked Whitehead that was left on the RMS Olympic and had to be delivered to New York as abandoned luggage. Besides being a great story with the RMS Olympia tie in. This is a beautiful old crusty camelback! It has a great old look with large knob rivets and hand wrough iron handles. Original paper lining and a few personal letters from the owners inside. I have not read these but there are about 30 letters all from the 1930's. Measures 28 1/2" wide x 20" deep x 21 1/2" high. There is no questioning the stickering. They are absolutely 1927 RMS Olympic tags and show a delivery charge to New York. Original tag is in place too. Great old paper lining. It has the original finish and great old hardware lock. Purchased at an antique auction it dates to the mid to late 1800's. The inside of the trunk is lined with layers of antique newspapers dating to 1865. Great old advertising. The newspapers are not in the best of condition and are hanging in some areas and falling apart. I have left them as they were found because it does help verify the age of the trunk. Most people will want to remove the paper and clean the trunk. You may be able to save some of the newspaper and advertising. The trunk measures about 11 inches high. It is 11 inches deep(front ... moreto back) and 21 inches side to side. It is in good antique condition. There are imperfections as would be expected. Marks in the wood here and there and there is a slight separation of the boards on one end as shown in the photos. Please refer to photo#5. The lid of the trunk has a separation in the boards; please refer to photos 7& 8. An unusual lock which I am not familiar with. It has a small lever which slides over the opening for the key and this does stick a little; it should loosen up nicely with a little care. I do not think all of the lock is there; it appears there should be another piece on the lid. As I said I am unfamiliar so I am not sure; just using my best guess in regards to the lock. Please refer to photo# 6. There is no key. Wonderful old trunk. It looks great displayed and would be a nice addition to any collection. Antique White 1800's Camel Back Steamer Trunk
I picked this at an auction and as I carried it to the truck a gentleman who appeared in his mid 70s stopped. He wanted me to know that his great grandfather immigrated from Europe in the 1800s and used this trunk to carry his items on the ship that brought him over. I love the stories and was glad that he stopped me. It is painted white and has been for a long time. It is solid. Sound and in great shape. Even the leather handles, which typically rot off, are BOTH in place. The inside, as you can see from the photos is beautiful complete with a drawing of a young woman. Restore it and you will have an incredible trunk or leave it as it and enjoy the beauty and age of this wonderful trunk.

This is a fabulous Antique 1800's Salesman's Sample Wooden Trunk with an alligator embossed gold painted front and brown painted dome top. The sides and back are floral embossed and the sides are green while the back is white. It has black painted metal strips. Hinges, and metal lock( Lock does not lock) There are wooden strips on the top, front, and sides. The bottom is plain wood. The interior is paper lined. It measures 16" wide and 9" tall in the front and back while the sides due to the dome, are 10.5" tall in the center and 9" wide. The handles on the sides have been broken off. Estate Find ~ Fur Covered 1800's Travel Trunk ORIGINAL CONDITION
If you are looking for an early trunk check out this hide covered dome top wood truck in original as found condition. Measuring approx. 27" wide x 13-3/4" x 12" high. Covered in its original hide skin dating to the early 1800's or before. This is a true antique. The original lock and hasp are intact. Each end has the original matching iron handles to lift and carry the trunk. The inside has the original old worn wall paper. This trunk is solid, the wood on the bottom is very clean without rot. Condition is what you see. I have provided several photos for your viewing pleasure taken at different angles so you can get a good look at what you are buying. The hide covering has one small cut at the top. The hide has some worn fur areas that only add character. There are brass? tacks that decorate the trunk. Estate ~ Corset "Waist" Shaped 1800's Ladies Trunk CUTE SIZE
This is a great little trunk measuring approx. 26" wide x 14" at the widest portion of the waist shaped side x 13-1/2" tallest. It appears that someone started to restore this beauty by exposing the beautiful pine wood. The original brass lock cover is still in place. There is a removable tray that fits inside to store items on a separate level. There is a nice large size handle on each end of the trunk to carry it by. The back is hinged nicely to open and close the trunk tightly. Condition is as shown. The old leather like handle on the front of the lid is only attached on one side. I'm not sure this is original and you could easily remove it. It has some tiny dings from years of use and a couple cracks in the wood from separation over the years that would be customary for an item that is over 125 years old. The original ... morewall paper covering is still inside. Replace it with your favorite wallpaper to match your room! The wood bottom is solid without rot or missing pieces. LARGE ANTIQUE GERMAN IMMIGRANT DOME TOP STEAMER TRUNK EARLY 1800'S
For sale is a huge 1800's immigrant steamer trunk. Best guess is German or Swiss. Has a man's name on the top, AUGUST GEUNERT. NEW YORK. I bought it in Pa. At an antique store. They said it belonged to a Doctor. In Philadelphia.They bought this and several Hepple White pieces. From his estate. It is massive. 45 inches wide,22 deep, and 25 1/2 inches tall. And weighs about 75 pounds. Has a some issues with the wood. Please see photo's. Most are the 1/4 inch trim that surrounds. The lid base. A very easy fix for a carpenter. All the straps are present and in great shape with only the hinge. Front pieces altered. The lock plate is 6 3/4 by 4 inches in great. Condition.I do not have the key. This lock was way ahead of it's time. There is one like this on ebay now for $167.Even they have value. I can find no markings but all metal ... morewas hand forged and smithed. No screws. All rivet and hand pounded straps. The common screw was not mass produced until around 1800. I do not know how to age this chest but. There are no screws in the original chest and metal parts.Look close.This is an old chest. A set of hinges was added later to help to help support the back. This trunk is a very rare find. Vintage flat top steamer trunk dates back to late 1800's or early 1900's as indicated by lock made by Corbin Lock Co. Lock is marked Corbin. No key. Trunk is in good condition, measures approximately 17 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 32" with side leather handles worn off but pieces attached. Clasp hinges lock in place, keys not included. 4 metal plated rollers on bottom may have had wood around them. Top insert with compartment measures 12 3/4" W x 5 1/4" Deep. Name identification marked on front is slightly visible, assumably owner of trunk. Number marked on bottom in red barely legible, possibly for traveling purposes. 1800-1900 STEAMER TRUNK UNKNOWN MAKER RUSTIC AND WAITING FOR YOUR TOUCH An untouched. Original, rustic steamer trunk waiting for a refurbishing or your artistic touch. The trunk is 31 inches long 19 inches wide and 21 inches tall. This trunk was found at an Estate sale and has been in storage for years. Yes that is rust you are seeing. Trunk is made of a thin tin metal sheeting with wood slat boards across the trunk. The lock appears original along with all of the hinges. None are missing. The feet are all intact. Not loose. I took a picture of the bottom which is also intact with no holes. The inside of the trunk is wood with a paper lining cover. Unfortunately it is missing the shelves but has one shelf holder. As you can see it has some defects. The leather handles are missing. Trunk lid opens and the lock closes, but has no key. Occasional ... morepaint smears.
