Dating from the 1870s, it has burl panels all over, hand carved crest on the very top, five different style shapely mirrors, rose quartz on the drop center and two top columns, four small drawers, one large drawer on the base and a hidden drawer on the very bottom. The burl panels are all picture frame molded on the drawers and on the inside of the drop center. It has oversize candle shelves. In my over 50 years in the business, I don’t believe I have owned this model even though I have had my share of drop center dressers.

The marble top has a small chip in it at the back rim edge. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It features a gorgeous burled veneer inlay on the drawer fronts, bail pull handles, and built-in division in the top drawer. The piece is lockable, and comes with the key. I am unsure of the type of wood that it is constructed from. It has dovetail joints, a panel constructed back, and fluted trim accents at the front side framework. I am unsure of the exact age of the chest of drawers, but it looks like it may have been re-varnished at some point.

French Empire Mahogany Marble Top Commode Chest Dresser with Gilt Mounts c. 1805

Description: This listing is for a 19th Century French Empire Period Mahogany Marble Top Ormolu Mounted Commode. Circa 1805. It is a fascinating work of art, constructed in three parts- first the marble, which is extremely heavy at just over an inch thick(1 1/16" thick) the top of the chest with the top drawer, and the bottom of the chest with the lower three drawers. Lifting the marble reveals the construction of the topmost portion. Each of the front corners with a full gallery of hand cut dovetails that lock the top into the thick corners. All of the secondaries are solid oak, joined with large pegged tenons along the frame, this large thick top joining the lower case with thick through-tenon wedged mortise joints- by ... morepulling out the wedge, the tenon drops out of the top portion, freeing it from the lower case. This lifts away from the case as long as the columns are not nailed at the top. The top drawer features the most incredible gilt ormolu mounts. Cast with stunning attention to even the smallest detail. Horizontal curled anthemions flank a seated angel, inscribing in a blank scroll. With wings furled behind, detailed even down to the tiniest feather, the angel rests with legs slightly bent as the robe flows from his legs, a trumpet peering out from behind him. Over either columnar support, gilt ormolu mounts of angels flank the top drawer, the figure on the right peering towards the sky with a globe behind him, the angel on the left sitting on a carefully crafted French Empire chair reading a scroll. The turned columns on either side rest on square plinths. Capped at the top and bottom with gold gilt flamed mounts, finely detailed throughout. Three drawers slide in and out of the case, each hand dovetailed front and back with solid oak secondary woods making up the frame and bottoms. A very nice three-drawer 1880-1885 Eastlake chest with a beautiful pink and gray marble top. Which can be lifted off for moving. Note the interesting cove-and-pin construction of the drawers. All drawers will lock. But there is no key. It takes a barrel key, and have found that keys of friends will easily work the locks. Spoon-carved type of decorations along side each end of the top drawer. Note the construction details and condition in the photos. Size: 44"l. x 22"w. x 30"h. MINIATURE Walnut Stained Chest of Drawers with Marble Top Salesman Sample c 1900
This is a larger sized miniature chest of drawers that measures 16” wide x 8 ¾” deep x 14 ¾” high. It has four drawers and a heavy green marble inset top– note that the marble is simply inset in the top and can be removed. Though it fits perfectly(see photos of the top with and without the marble inset) The chest has fluted wood columns on the sides of the drawers with small metal Doric style capital and bases. The knobs are a turned metal. The chest sits on bun feet. This chest was probably made as a salesman sample or apprentice piece– or perhaps for a child for her dolls? The detail is amazing and it’s very well made. I’m not sure of its age. Though I would estimate sometime between 1890 and 1910. Antique Germany Cherry Wood Trunk w/Marble Top Mid 1800’s I got this beautiful small trunk while living in West Germany. It is made of beautiful Cherry Wood which is a hardwood. The color is medium wood. It is carved with beautiful arches front and sides. The back is plain. The top measures 32 ¾“ x16 7/8” and it stands 16 7/8” tall. It has one drawer which is made with dovetail joints. See pictures. The legs are ball legs. When I bought it I was told it was from 1850 to 1870. I had a marble top cut for it which measures 34” x 17” It can be used with or without the top as the top of the trunk is in fine condition also.
