this very nice round top trunk. has hand stamped rolled brass looking metal sheets on outer finish between wood slats. Antique primitive hand painted and decorated chest. It comes from Bergen County. New Jersey. It was in the Vander Plaat House which was once known as the Vanderbeck House. The chest is from the 1800's. It was decorated at a later date. It has green paint, metal panels, flowers, leaves, studs and mirrors. It is 35" long, 19 1/2" wide, and 20 1/2" high. There is some writing on the back of the chest(see pictures) and a sort of design on the inside of the lid. It has metal handles, and mounts. The chest has cracks on the lid and wear, but is sturdy. It’s a very sturdy trunk measuring 41” long with handles. 20” wide, and 19-1/2” high. Perfect for a coffee table and storage. The inside of the trunk is very clean. There is a small of wood missing from the bottom side(see picture) And a hinge need a couple of screws for which I did not have the right size. This is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The flower painting is in pretty good shape on the sides and on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46 inches wide by 23 inches deep by 25 inches high. It has been passed down in my family for several generations. I can remember it always being in a guest bedroom in my grandparents home and they were art and antique collectors. I am in the process of downsizing and I have quite a few pieces to sell. I would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. Beautiful Antique German Pennsylvania Hand Painted Trunk Chest For sale is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. Some of these were made with secret compartments. But I havent had the time to look. The Handles the lock& the hinges are bold gothicstyle hand forged iron It is still useable but I have miss placed the pins for the lid. All the wood is in good condiion on all 4 sides and lid. Striking antique. Oval, wooden lock chest with hand-forged iron hardware. It has the date"1845" carved in the underside of the top with initials ZH and ZVSV stamped on the top and on the underside of the top. I am unsure of the origin but the area of Germany/France has been suggested. The chest was clearly built with the purpose of keeping its items secure, perhaps for traveling or shipping purposes. The chest is approximately 20.25" wide, 15" deep and 12.5" tall from the bottom to the highest point of the dome top. It weighs approximately 14 pounds. Being an old chest. It shows expected wear. It is overall very solid but does have its share of dings, scuffs, and some minor loosening of the iron band and wood bottom trim in a couple of areas. Antique Cedar Trunk with Walnut Carved Design- From what I can see. This was hand made from Cedar with a walnut carved veneer overlay on front. Original lock and Key. Key is a single tooth, hollow barrel metal Skelton key. Hinges appear to be original, but I am not certain. Small dovetailed joints with distinct un-matching groves validate the 1800's age I believe to be when it was made. Another strong indicator is the patent number on the back solid panel dating it around 1844. This piece is not in perfect condition, but I would say PRETTY DARE GOOD! ANTIQUE HAND PAINTED CHEST TRUNK WITH DATE 1876
We are relisting this wonderful chest because we did receive payment for it. This great antique chest came from the estate of an antiques dealer in Connecticut. The family was disposing of some of the pieces since the house was being renovated. This chest has a wonderful look with its aged patina and hand painted design. The front shows a date of 1876 but no one knew what the represented so it may not have been from that era. The colors are still good with some paint wear and streaks. The side panels have a red& black geometric pattern that shows lighter than it actually is. There are slight remnants on the top from some paint but it is difficult to see. The chest is dovetailed with square nails. Some of which are missing. The hinges look like replacements but are hand made and old, one has partially broken on the inside. There is what ... moreappears to be the original lock and escutcheon but no key and the top section on the lid is missing. There are splits, cracks, chips in the wood and there is surface wear as indentations/gouges but they have been worn smooth over the years from use. Some of the square nails are loosening. The inside of the top and bottom have sharp"nail" points sticking out with some small pieces of a paper or material that probably lined the chest. There are signs of a couple of small repairs made many years ago. The chest measures approximately 34 1/2"W x 16 1/4"D x 13"H. This is being listed as"For Pickup Only" please email with questions. Beautiful antique oak trunk with hand carved ornamentation. Th original finish that was hand polished with 0000 steel wool and pastewax. It has a frame constructed of 7/8" thick oak with oak veneered panels. Bottom outside frame is carved with a nice detail. The medallion under the keyhole is a series of swirls. Flowers and leaves. The black metal strap hinges are stunning. Ball feet are 2 1/4" in diameter. The trunk measures 37" wide x 18 3/4" deep x 19" tall. Inside is 34 1/4" wide x 16 5/8" deep x 15 1/4" tall. There is no key so it's unknown if the lock works— it's marked"Secure 2 Lever" There are some marks from age and the veneer on the top is a little wavy. Antique Victorian Early 1800's Whaling Ship Dovetail Wood Hand Painted Trunk
I've had this trunk for almost 15 years. It is wood with ornate metal work. Good condition. Very sturdy. Grass green paint. Looks to be the original paint. Inside lid has a whaling ship hand painted on it. Very unique and what drew me to the trunk originally. It was discovered somewhere locally(south central KY) by an older couple in our small town that always dealt in fine antiques. I was in contact with Ken Farmer(Antiques Roadshow) about two years ago and he called this an antique whaling trunk and appraised it for around $1.000-$1500. Measures 35x22x21in.

Antique Scandinavian Quartersawn Oak Hand Painted Dower / Hope Chest Trunk
This is an absolutely gorgeous chest. The dimensions are a massive 58 1/2" long X 27' tall X 25" deep. The quartersawn graining shows beautifully through the washed green paint on the lid. Just an amazing piece that is even more impressive in person. In very good condition with the exception of a missing bolt on one of the lid hinges and the strapping on the back side being a little bent. Local pick up only unless buyer arranges shipping. Many had hand-wrought iron handles. They were lined with newspaper. Sometimes a mixture of newspapers sometimes had added decoration in the form of many dots or squares printed paper atop the newsprint. Hides covered the outside, which could be deerskin, cowhide or horsehide. Many would have the original owners initials on the top or front of the trunk, made up from round tacks which were also used for decorations and dust shields. Check out my! For your consideration is a Nathan Neat antique hand trunk. Document/carriage box. This document box was originally covered with deer hide. Over its 175+ year life most of the hide has worn off with some still on the top and on the lid sides. The box dates to the early 1800's. The interior is all original with dotted paper and the marker's label- Nathan Neat of Boston. The box measures 13 3/4" wide X 9" deep X 6 1/2" high. The steel lock has a brass keyhole and heavy brass keyhole cover. This is a beautiful example of a hand/carriage trunk used to carry valuable papers and personable items.
