Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE ... moreNOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. ... moreover the top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. Colorado around the late 1800’s or may be the very early 1900’s. This trunk is clad in metal with wood slats. Decorative embossed gold hardware and canvas straps. The metal banding was used to strengthen them and for decorative design. All the hardware appears to be original. I have not tried to clean it, because some people prefer the original patina. Antique 19th century trunk made by J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Nos. 138. 140 and 142 Monroe St. Fort Dearborn Bld. Chicago. It measures 40 1/2" across, 24 1/2" high, 16" deep and weighs 55 lbs. The trunk is all original. The wood and leather has a lovely patina. The inside has two levels of cloth covered trays, and a box that slides from left to right. These trays all have leather straps. The label is on the inside cover, also the original paper tag written with the owners name W.E.H, 251 North Grove St. East Orange, N.J. There is a brass plaque on the top with the maker's name. There are no cracks inside or outside the trunk. There is a small gouge on the front right side of the trunk. The inside fabric on the side shows some wear. Antique humpback chest trunk wood and metal steamboat trunk.
Up for auction is a Wood and metal humpback chest. The chest is original there has been no restoration done to it. The chest measures 26" long 17" tall 15" wide the paper on the inside of the chest is original there is a broken handle and some hardware issues that come with age. The inside tray is long gone. This chest has been kept inside a apartment for most of its life. It was not used for storage but as a showpiece so it has been kept very clean. Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Up for sale is a antique all wood immigrants trunk. It is a great antique trunk from the 1800's. It does show signs of aging wood cracked no lock in the front. The trunk is 44 3/4long. 24 1/4inches tall. The bottom is 18 1/4inches deep and the top is 23 1/2inches deep. It could use a good cleaning been stored for years. I will be listing this item plus other oak piece from a local estate. The owner was a refinisher. These were some of the projects that had never got done or even started. The main metal looks to be copper but I don't have a way to test to be sure. H orizontal wood looks to be oak but again I can't say with certainty. The metal work on the left top side of the inside is slightly bent. With some minor work and the use of a mallet it can be re-shaped. Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. Measurements are 25” x 14” x 13” The Bad: This trunk/chest is completely original so shows evidence of its age. Many“bumps and bruises” through the years as you can see in the many pictures I took. This one according to the late owners family was much travelled around India. All the brass fittings are still in position and the chest has wonderfull naturally aged patina. One of the brass carrying handles is very slightly different so may have been update at some time. These are 7 dome top trunk slats removed from an old trunk. This is one of those trunks I saved for my garden. These are probably before 1890 because there are pairs of nail holes. In the mid 1890s there was a change to only 1 nail where the 2 had been before to save money. These slats have both double nail holes and single nail holes but they came from the same trunk top. These need to be cleaned and refinished. See photos for condition. I think I labeled the picture correctly. But I had taken the picture in October and was trying to match nail holes with actual pieces. too lazy to take new pictures) Sizes are approximate: 4- slats 18” 2- slats 17 ½” 1 slat 17” These were the best of the lot. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. The only parts I notice missing on the exterior are one of the leather handles and it did not come with a key. There is a name written on the right side. See photos to judge condition. It has its caster wheels. Overall it is very nice and I believe everything is original. The inside seems to be original and in very good shape for the age. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border. Antique Vintage wood blanket chest trunk from 1800s
This beautiful solid pine trunk is from the late 1800's. It has the original hardware. Due to its age and material it has a little of the lower molding missing on one side(see photo 2) This is part of its charm. There are two small drawers inside the trunk. I found a nail. As pictured, in the drawer and similar ones in the chest itself showing its age. There is a crack that runs across P art the top of the trunk but doesn't affect its use. Lid closes and o pens. It is sturdy enough to be carried by the handles and a solid piece. No water damage. It would be a great coffee table or blanket chest. The patina is nice and its a beautiful piece from the past. This trunk is made of wood with the old canvas covering which is painted a very desirable soft mint green. Comes with its original lift out tray and paper lining which is in wonderful shape for its age, the trunk dates to the 1850s to 1870s era. In very nice good used condition, no odors, solid and sturdy. The bottom of the swing latch on one of the front latches is gone and two of the little ribbons on the bottom of the inside tray are gone. This trunk just has normal average wear and use and is in wonderful condition for its age, seldom do you ever find them like this, especially in this nice size and great style! Antique Victorian Chinese Camphor Wood Trunk Chest Locker Early 1800's or Older This is a beautiful piece. It measure's 37"x19"x16" larger once boxed) and is in really good antique condition. It has a strong patina and the exterior front lock cover has been lost. All of the other hardware. Hinges, handles, corners. And molding braces are in place. It has a scratches and marks all over the outside, but the inside is in great shape. The bottom panel has a crack in it. But it doesn't appear to effect anything. I didn't even see it until I was taking pics of the bottom. It is visible in the pic 8. A few of the previous owners left there names and dates that they owned the trunk during the 1800's. It appears it was passed down through several generations of a family of San Franciscans and San Francisco Bay Area. ... moreI know a little bit about this family through some research. Most of them have an easily traceable history. I am not going to make their names public however. A person of good authority was able to translate the cursive writing under the lid and revealed that the outer trim around the top and bottom of the trunk were installed as protective measures while traveling. Here is what he could make out: These trunk? corners. Top and bottom of trunk can be(revealed, seen, uncovered? by unscrewing the screws and slipping the strips off. Strips only were used while traveling. Here is a little bit more of what this person shared with me: The type of chest you have is the very best. These chests are made by Chinese craftsmen and have invisible dovetails. Incised brass fittings and a floating panel top(to prevent it from splitting in different climates) There was a very active trade with China when San Francisco was a boom town and these chests were brought in by the hundreds. Most have disappeared or are held by descendants of the original owners. The man who did the fitting did it very cleverly– probably a real craftsman who knew what he was doing. Here is a true barn find. Right from a new england farm, super neat design on the front. Chest appears to have original hinges and side handles. There is paper/ travel stamps with early 1900 dates on them. I'm guessing its at least from early 1900s but possibly earlier, has metal overlay on top and on the corners with unique art design on the front. Inside is wood with paper lining. Chest is apprx. 24" long 18" wide and 16" high. A very unique chest, a good size, not too big, make a great accent piece.

Antique Small Dome Top Hump Back Steamer Trunk w/ Tray Embossed Tin& Wood Description: Up for sale is this great old small sized Dome top or Hump Back trunk! This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather handles ... moreon either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. The inside of the trunk is natural wood without any covering. The tray still feels pretty solid. There is one knot hole in a side as shown in the photo and most of the original paper covering is still in place. The inside was re-done to meet my needs. There are tiny inset wheels on the bottom for easy mobility. There are no latches or straps on the outside. If you need them they should not be that hard to find using EBay. The measurements are:34" long x 20" high and 17" deep. Consider the upcoming holidays because this trunk would make a great gift.
