Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Working Lock and Key
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a lovely refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 13 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This nice trunk consists of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include nicks and dings mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards. And a couple of hairline stress cracks in the base wood. This one comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front two latches are original and do work properly since the ... moresprings are intact. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have there been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing. Someone had drilled small holes in the wood and run rope through these holes to make handles for this trunk. They were rather lousy looking, so we have removed those handles and installed a pair of nice Amish made black leather stitched handles where these rope ones were. These handles are sturdy. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining which was worn out looking and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. A nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian woman standing in a boat on a pond has been added to the underside of the top. The exterior bottom has normal wear and we have finished the bottom to make it overall cleaner. This trunk could be used as a low coffee table, tv/stereo stand, and/or a storage chest anywhere in your home where storage space is needed. Up for consideration is a very nice victorian trunk. It has a working lock and key. The left lattch. Or hasp, is missing but still closes securely with lock. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. It is a nice trunk that is sturdy. Refinished Double Lock Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks and Key Here is the first double lock refinished dome top trunk that we have had in a very long time. This trunk dates back to the late 1800's. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This large dome top is made up of pine base wood, ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome is made up of early ply. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. This one has a lot of distress marks which include areas on the wood that are darker in color, probably due to moisture in various places on this trunk. Also there are stress cracks running across the top wood that makes up the dome. There are typical nicks and dings in various ... moreplaces. This particular trunk was a little more weathered when we received it than most of the trunks we refinish. So we did make it as nice as we could, but do want to mention some of the characteristics. This one comes with the two factory original working locks. We have matched up a key that does work in each of the locks. You can lock your personal belongings away from others if you want to. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps and the handle caps have an embossed star on them. You could store a lot of belongings inside this trunk since it is pretty large. It may look nice at the foot of the bed in the bedroom or anywhere in your house where storage space is needed. If you are one who enjoys collecting rustic more primitive style antiques, then this one might be just the right one for you since it is more rustic than most trunks that we refinish. In addition to this nice original lock, it also has some nice original fancy front latches that do work properly since the springs are still intact. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away when we received this trunk, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones were. We actually have run this pair of straps under the original strap hold downs or keepers that we have repainted. Since the metal on this trunk is not brass, we have brush painted it by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge banding is made up of some type of leather or pressed composition. We did fill it where some of it was missing and painted it black also. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. They are sturdy. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and Tray My husband and I have refinished over 100 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished flat top steamer t runk. The particular d iminsions for this are 30 1/4" length. 18 1/2" width and 20 1/2" heig ht. We refinished this particular trunk by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. A fter t his. We applied 2 layers of tung oil to the trunk and tr ay. After lots of research on rest oration. We have found that it is better to finish old wood ... morewith tung oil as it helps preserve the wood from drying and cracking from the inside out. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made brow n leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Th is trunk also ha s the two original latches newly painted and working properly.Attached to the lid of this trunk is the original stay so it will remain opened when wanted. Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. Gorgeous Unique& Rare Condition Antique Steamer Trunk Amazingly this is a steamer trunk that had never been painted. Also had embossed tin, and still had the beautiful green enamel paint intact that the embossed tin was originally painted with! Also the trunk still has both handles intact. Neither look like they have been replaced, and it still has its original tray Even more exceptional. The trunk has a working LOCK& KEY: even the bottom of the trunk is in totally blean unrusted almost perfect condition. Even has a labeled where it was shipped at least one time from Danville KY in the 1920's I would estimate however that the age of the trunk is more around the late 1800's The trunk has been thoroughly cleaned& conserved. The wood has been cleaned, taken back to its original color, and finished, the metal was cleaned as ... morewell The inside of the trunk was stripped of all the old paper. This is a good thing to do so it rids the trunk of any old dust, allergens, smells, etc. Normally I will leave the inside as bare wood. Leaving the character that only a real antique trunk would accumulate over the years intact. The original canvas was in too bad of shape. So it was stripped to reveal the beautiful pine underneath. The outside has also been sanded. Cleaned and sealed with a satin finish for preservation and protection as well. Latches are in perfect working order. the lock can only be locked with the key. Fancy Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps, Key & 2 Trays
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps. And Buckles, Working Lock& Key and 2 Original Interior Trays Here we have a very unique flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Out of about 1500 trunks that we have refinished. This is the first one that has triple straps running up the front and across the top. This one had originally come with three straps going up the front and across the top from the factory. Obviously we have replaced those three straps with Amish made leather straps, running them where the original straps once were. The center strap can be tucked under a piece of leather on the top if you don't want it to come down over the lock. We have made it that way so you can display your trunk with the lock showing instead of being covered by the third strap. We did want to include the third strap ... moresince it is the first trunk we have ever had with three straps. It just makes it more complete by putting the strap that covers the lock on this trunk. All of the black strap keepers or hold downs that you see on the front and top of the trunk are the original ones which we have painted black. This trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings along with some areas of discoloration to the wood on the slat boards. This one doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood which is quite unusual since most trunks we refinish have stress cracks. Here are the trunk's dimension s: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge band
