Upon graduating from school Henry Likly took an apprenticeship with A.R& T.H.Pritchard and mastered his trade in the trunk manufacturing industry.In January of 1868 Mr. Likly was given a partnership in the company. The company then became A.R. T.H. Pritchard& Company. Three years later it became A.R. Pritchard& Likly.When Henry Likly and his brother in-law became the sole proprietors of the business the name was changed to Henry Likly& Company. This was the name from 1870 when A.R. Pritchard retired until 1925 when it simply became"Likly's"As far as I can tell the company was ran by his children after his death in 1897. In New York State the Henry Likly trunk company was the largest factory of its time. Located at 340 Lyell Ave in Rochester N.Y. the factory covered two acres of land. 1800's Antique Victorian Style Steamer Trunk. This truck is in VERY good conition with all original metal edging. Caps, latches, locks and trim There is no key for this piece. It has the original 4 metal coasters on the bottom and are in great shape also. The only issue I have seen is that the leather straps and 1 handle will need to be replaced. There is a place for the tray inside but it is not there. The interior is a checkered pattern and is in good shape. Measurements are 38" Long, 21" Wide and 24" Tall. Here you are buying a"Antique Steamer/Railroad Trunk" This is a really nice looking trunk that has a slight hump t its top. Metal corners and edges and side snaps adorn this trunk. There is a lock down front that is loose along with a snap on each side of the front as well. It as leather straps and slots some of which are no longer intact. The leather handles on each side are present but torn(replaceable as the hardware is still there) It has a canvas material that covers the wood and is reinforced with wooden slots. The hardware is black and brass or brass like and ornate in design. There are three railraod stamps that are still somewhat readeable saying Railway Express Agency in New Hampsire and addressed to a location in New Jersey. This is a beautiful curved Dome top trunk. The curved top. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware, lots of detail, makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. The reason for the curved top is to ensure that this trunk would go on the top of the stack. Rather than having trunks stacked on top of it, damaging the contents. I have not altered or refinished this trunk. I'm selling it for a friend. She bought it at a local antique store here in Grass Valley about 20 years ago. No key. What you see is what you get.
