Antique Vanderman Trunk - Pat. July 1897
Antique Vanderman trunk from the late 1800's to early 1900's. The patent date on the name plate is July 1897. The trunk/Strong box is solid and in fairly good condition for its age. It appears that it was once painted a solid color and the paint has been partially stripped or worn off. The bottom of the trunk is rusted but seems to be solid. Beautiful Antique Vanderman Strong Box This is an 1897 Vanderman Strong Box which has been professionally restored and is in absolutely beautiful condition. It was made by the Vanderman Mfg. Co. of Willimantic. Conn. and patented July 13, 1897. Vanderman manufactured these boxes in several different sizes, many of which were used as tool chests and by the construction trade. It is made of 1/16" steel which was formed into a rectangular shape and on the top, sides, and bottom are solid oak wood staves/slats riveted to the steel. The corners have custom fit steel reinforcing at every outside edge point. There is a Vanderman brass plaque at the lower center of the front panel. Additional locking mechanisms are in each of the two upper corners of the lid and

Antique Vanderman stagecoach/railroad trunk from the late 1800's to early 1900's. The patent date on the name plate is 1897. The trunk/Strong box is in original condition and has not been restored. One top board is damaged as shown in photograph. The rest of the trunk including the bottom is solid inside and out. This trunk is solid and in very good condition for its age. This is a rare trunk. Please contact me with any questions. I am not able to ship it but I will work with a buyer who arranges his or her own shipping and deliver it to a local shipper. Includes antique plane, drill bits, saw, levels. Trunk is approx. 32 inches long, 18 inches wide and 18 inches tall. Broadhead axe blade is no longer included.

Real antique Vanderman Strong Box or Railroad Tool Box
Vanderman Strong Box. About 33" wide 18" deep and 18" tall. Partially stripped to show the quality underneath. Original hardware tag in place and legible. No tray for interior so what you see is what you get. Someone sawed off the top hasp and the lock is still attached with no key to open it. I don't believe the hasp to be original to the piece but I am not entirely sure about that. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Please examine the pictures closely as this item is as-found.

You can only Imagine the things that This old Chest has Carried and the interesting Situations that it's been through. It is Clearly All original and Displays nicely with a Strong Primitive Appeal. The old bluish grey paint is still visible on the old and worn wood and the heavily Oxidized Iron or Steel is still holding firm with traces of the same old paint. The Box is mainly of metal with wood around the ... moreedges, top and bottom. There are two spots on the side for mounting the box in a Train car or on a Stage Coach and the Original hinged locking mechanism is functional and all you need is an old Lock for effect. This box was found in an old Barn near Seaboard, NC and looks to have been there for some time. The box was on a rotten old piece of wood and the metal bottom of the box has worn out on one side. The box is Still Solid and Displays nicely and would easily Clean up& become an Impressive Conversation piece in Anyones Collection. Vanderman Antique Strong Box Manufactured In Williamatic Conneticut Pat. 1897
Vanderman Antique Strongbox This beautiful strong box was made by the Vanderman Manufacturing Company of Willimantic. Connecticut, patent date of July 13, 1897. This particular strong box was a tool box as noted on the brass label atop, which reads: Tools For Water Tube Boilers- Built By The Babcock& Wilcox Co. New York& London. The Vanderman brass label is on the front. Its construction is 1/16” steel which is formed into a rectangular shape. The steel overlaps on the sides and the sides of the bottom. It has 1/8”cast iron corners; four on the lid and two on the upper box front; the four moldings comprising the front corners have an opening coming down through for additional securing. The lock shank differs from all others that I have seen as it comes up through the top front of the box. The box is riveted throughout starting with ... morethe steel. Then the oak rails surrounding the lid and top and bottom of the box. The iron casted corners and remaining corners with 1/8” steel bands are riveted into those rails. Two riveted hinges are attached to the back lid and tuck under the backside rail of the box. Three oak bumpers angled on ends are riveted to both top and bottom. Lastly there are side mounted heavy duty handles with riveted hardware. I have more photos; email me if interested. The bottom of the box looks as good as the top. This box weighs 60 lbs. It is of solid. Stable construction. The dimensions are: Length-26” Width-20” Height-14” A heavy duty crate has been constructed for shipping.
