The wallpaper is loose in places, both on the outside, and on the inside, and also missing in a number of places. The interior tray is missing. I have done NO repair or restoration on this trunk. The wood also has a number of splits in it. Lock is original. No key included. Hinges are original, although at least some of the original screws seem to have been replaced with brass ones. Original scissors hinge is missing. The trunk also has a metal band, on the lid, which fits over the lower portion of the trunk, just like the full size ones. Most likely RailRoad, has old stickers from traveling from state to state but there hard to read do to being old, weathered and in poor condition. Has owners name painted on side of trunk and below name Cincinnati, Ohio. Inside has blue maker tag, most of the tag is missing. Trunk is in Fair to Good condition, trunk is solid with no wood rot, All the cast hardware is good, cast iron and brass lock, some of the cast iron hardware is ornate and of good quality for the time. Front latch locks have a midevil look. Missing one wheel but the caster that holds the wheel is good. Trunk has paint loss, scuffs and scratches, rips in material, rust ect. Antique 1880s Salesman Sample Railroad/Steamer Trunk
Nice antique miniature steamer trunk in what appears to be good condition except that the top is only connected to the bottom by the strap on inside. The paper appears to be torn in many places and has some missing in spots. The trunk doesn't appear to have had a tray. There doesn't seem to be any runners for a tray to sit on nor does it appear that they are missing. There is no key to the trunk. Trunk is approx. 10" wide by 7 1/2" tall by 7" deep. This is an estate sale find and is being sold in"AS IS AS FOUND" condition. I am NOT an expert and description is to the best of my knowledge. Beautiful Antique Vanderman Strong Box This is an 1897 Vanderman Strong Box which has been professionally restored and is in absolutely beautiful condition. It was made by the Vanderman Mfg. Co. of Willimantic. Conn. and patented July 13, 1897. Vanderman manufactured these boxes in several different sizes, many of which were used as tool chests and by the construction trade. It is made of 1/16" steel which was formed into a rectangular shape and on the top, sides, and bottom are solid oak wood staves/slats riveted to the steel. The corners have custom fit steel reinforcing at every outside edge point. There is a Vanderman brass plaque at the lower center of the front panel. Antique Vanderman stagecoach/railroad trunk from the late 1800's to early 1900's. The patent date on the name plate is 1897. The trunk/Strong box is in original condition and has not been restored. One top board is damaged as shown in photograph. The rest of the trunk including the bottom is solid inside and out. This trunk is solid and in very good condition for its age. This is a rare trunk. You are bidding on an Antique Civil War era trunk- Victorian age railroad trunk chest coffee table as pictured. Very clean on the inside- totally restored. It is marked" Paris" Has all original square nails and original hinges. No key for lock. This trunk is what was called a" paper trunk" Described in Antique Trunks book by Edelstein and Morse page 35. When the Civil war started. The trunk makers went to paper that imitated the more expensive etched leather. Because of the condition of this trunk when I got it; it was covered in contact paper and looked horrid. We stripped the contact paper out which pulled up the old 1800's imitation leather paper under it, so we we stripped all paper out and restored it to it's original wood condition.
