Item# 120011RYI24 ... moreThis listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result is breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. Ahlberg, Antique Furniture, New Haven, Conn" The drawer is hand dovetailed at the back, nailed at the front, chamfered on the thick bottom along the sides to rabbet into the drawer frame and is nailed at the back of the drawer with a modern nail. American Federal Period Red Painted Dovetailed Blanket Chest Probably Pennsylvania c. 1800-20. Yellow Pine Secondaries Untouched original condition Item# 130002FHK19 This piece is simply a treasure- an untouched and entirely original American Federal Period Antique Blanket Chest crafted during the first quarter of the 19th Century. Almost certainly in Pennsylvania. It features six-board construction. Every junction dovetailed for a permanent and flexible join throughout. The surface is dry and well patinated, almost certainly the original painted surface; the history of this antique blanket chest, how it was enjoyed and used over the last two hundred years, is tattooed in the stains, abrasions and oxidized scars across it's fine dark red painted finish. The top projects over the chest with applied molding along the facing edges. The iron lock and catch are still original to the chest, though the key has since been lost; a crescent is worn in the underside of the top where the lid of the till has scraped over the years, this same surface inscribed" Jennise A Bowman" Vanessa C. This stacked with a bead over rounded molding with a scratched-channel over the bracket feet. The dovetailed feet are crafted such to showcase the most attractive perspective of the dovetail on the forward facing surfaces; the sides join the front board with half-blind dovetails, leaving the forward facing surface of the board unblemished by visible dovetailing. A late18th to early 19th Century American Chippendale large chest of drawers. Possibly Southern in origin. Height- 43 5/8 inches Width- 43 inches Depth- 20 inches American Revolutionary to Federal Period large chest of drawers. Appropriate wear to the internal parts and rails consistent with the age. Original finish with wear. Replacement handles. The chest may have originally had single drop pulls and as there is a single hole space under the present handles. Mahogany or black cherry veneer over poplar or elm secondary woods. All woods are well desiccated. Appropriate to the suggested time period. Appears that all of the original wood is intact including secondary woods. Varied hand cut dovetails. Mortise and tenon interior. Original back panels. Hand chamfered throughout. CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN PAINTED BLANKET CHEST OVER BOTTLE NECK FEET A fine and nearly untouched example; Pennsylvania. C. 1810-30 Item# 1402PVG21PQ A truly remarkable work of art. This fine blanket chest has survived two hundred years in outstanding condition and with no alterations or repairs. The surface is a delightful salmon tone, very early and almost certainly original in it's rough patination, the edges alligatored and corners full of decades of grime. An austere and unimposing form, the severity is offset by the lively bottle-neck form legs. These are crisply turned and very precise, each with a deep worn glow from decades of being kicked and rubbed without sustaining any damage. These are joined into the chest with through-tenons, ... moremirroring the simplicity of the joinery in the rest of the case: simple exposed dovetails along each corner, the single plank top edged by molding affixed with large through tenons. The lid lifts over original wrought-iron strap hinges and untouched hand filed steel screws to reveal a clean and well maintained interior with a till on the left; beneath the till, a plain panel is released by depressing a wooden pin from beneath, allowing the panel to swing outward and reveal the pair of dovetailed drawers. Currently that little wooden peg is"stuck" but this could be resolved if it were important enough to warrant the attention. The pair of drawers are crafted in the same manner as the rest of the chest, each with delicate original turned wooden knobs and tidy rows of dovetails, the bottom nailed with little iron brads in triplicate front and back. For any serious collectors of fine Americana and Pennsylvania folk art. This is an exceptional investment grade selection- one that is both highly functional and positively gorgeous to enjoy. This is a nice antique American New York or Massachusetts early 19th century Federal chest of drawers. I'm leaning more towards Massachusetts because the estate it came from collected earl American Massachusetts furniture as well as antique Massachusetts artwork. In pretty good shape considering it's age and retains a very old possibly original finish. It does have some imperfections throughout which is to be expected as it is nearing 200 years old with the worst being the cracks to the the top and one side but overall very nice shape and it comes exactly as shown. American Federal Cherrywood Chest of Drawers Circa 1815 Description: An American Federal cherrywood swell-front chest of drawers. Pennsylvania, circa 1815. The chest features four graduated cockbeaded drawers with original hardware. The sides are paneled, the stiles are fluted and end in Sheraton style turned legs. There is also mahogany banding on the bottom and top. The chest has been refinished and is a gorgeous color. It is 41" high by 41" wide by 24" deep. The ba ck has been replaced. Overall, i n very good condition. There are a couple of spots where the mahogany banding is missing on the bottom. We can restore this if you want. Please email for a quote. American Federal Painted Antique Blanket Chest, Pennsylvania, Early 19th Century
FINE AMERICAN FEDERAL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST ON FLARED FRENCH FEET Pennsylvania. C. Second Quarter of the 19th Century Item# 410SLU18 A very striking use of the flared foot in the blanket chest. The taste for Neoclassical austerity quickly translated into even the most functional of rural furnishings in the second quarter of the nineteenth century. These developments are clear in the angular reeded molding around the base, the softened scrolling of the returns around the feet and the simple escutcheon employed at the lock. Beyond these design changes, the structure of the chest remains unchanged from the late eighteenth-century form- the projecting molding around the top is affixed on a tongue-in-groove with an even series of wooden pins driven into the top, this raising on it's original rectangular cast iron hinges. The case leaves all ... moredovetailing along the front, sides and back exposed- the dovetails were considered a mark of excellent craftsmanship and were a proud part of the form, something to be displayed and considered by the customer of the day. The dovetailing continues in the back of the case through the rear foot supports, these affixed with large and carefully cut dovetails to the facings, all feet also supported with the typical bevelled horizontal blocking and large vertical interior blocks(two replaced, one absent, one original) Retaining it's original burgundy red painted surface. This chest is an absolute treasure of a find- the state of preservation throughout is remarkable with only the most minor of touch ups, the whole being free of any restoration after two hundred years of use. It was clearly cherished by it's owners. The bottom of the interior has a large scrolled inscription that is illegible to us, a more tidy but still illegible inscription beside the lock(not pictured) For any serious collector of Americana. Offered is a lovely old trunk in rustic condition it is made of mahogany with pine as secondary wood and cedar in the bottom. it has a candle drawer as most old trunks of this period do. it is 20 inches high by 30 inches wide by 15 1/2 inches deep on 4 inch turned feet. The feet indicate the age as early American Federal period and the finish is in good condition. There has been replaced trim and hinges as one might expect from a piece of this age. Black squiggles undulating from the centre terminating at the uppermost corners forming almost a ellipsis. Original feet! Even the feet are decorated. All pine dovetailed case. With a interior till. Great surface. About 100 years ago. Someone put a light cost of shellac over the entire surface to protect the paint. Aside from the early 20th century shellac coat.
