A 19th century painted blanket chest. Dovetailed throughout, in need of restoration or display as is. The surface is very worn and dry and we believe it to be original. Working lock and key. The hinges, while old, are replacements; the lock we believe is original. There is significant damage/loss to the bun feet. Lots of dings, scratches, wear and tear. Repairs to the area around the hinges on the back of the piece. The piece measures approximately 15" tall(including 2" bun feet) 27" wide, and 14.25" deep. The width and the depth are the box dimensions- the lid is a bit bigger. We do not know the maker or the region of origin, but it does not seem like an American piece to us. 19th C miniature English chest with bun feet!
Here is a wonderful miniature sized chest. Measuring 17" in height. The top measures 13 3/4" x 10 7/8" The width of the chest is 12 3/4" the depth is 9 3/4" the drawer interiors are 11 1/4" x 7 15/16" I believe this to be mahogany with a beautiful lighter veneer on the faces of the drawers and on the top. The only issues with it are a very small piece of molding missing, about 3/4" x 9/16" just above the right front foot on the right side. There are a few age cracks on the top, pls see photo, and if you need more photos, please ask. The brass pulls are definitely original. This is absolutely 19th C, my guess is 1850 to 1870 although I am certainly no pro on old furniture. This has never been offered for sale, it came right out of an estate here in Connecticut. ANTIQUE PINE BLANKET CHEST DOVETAIL MED. WOOD TONE BUN FEET, 1800-1899, AMERICA
This is an uncommon size for a blanket chest in that it is approximately the same height& depth of the most usual chests. However its width is considerably more narrow. Placed among others, its uniqueness is readily apparent. The glove box is narrow and when open, will hold up the chest's lid. The corner dovetails are all hand cut. The bun feet tops are inserted into the base of the chest, with quite wide protrusions. Parts of the chest appear to be single board. It's a nice early piece that will generate interesting looks and conversations. Weight is guestimated about 40 pounds. Dimensions are- 31-1/2"W x 22"H& 19-1/2"D. I can deliver to a local shipper.
