Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Interior Tray
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Interior Compartment Areas and Interior Tray Here is a really nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the mid to late 1800's. This beautiful hump back chest is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in it's natural patina or color which is a medium reddish brown. This trunk has a nice unique pair of original front latches that are patent dated and do work. They are"Patented July 1, 73" referring to 1873. These latches have a tab at the bottom that you flip back and forth ... moreto engage or disengage the latch. The lock is original to this trunk. It is brass. So we have semi polished it. Unfortunately, we have not been able to match up a key for this lock. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. Going to the interior of this trunk, it has two nice features which are under the dome. One is the compartment at the left. We have remade the drop door to this compartment and added a nice picture to this door. At the right under the top is the original small compartment which may have held people's smaller belongings. If you look at the close up pictures, you will see the lids being held open to give you an idea of how these work. The picture above the small compartment is original. It portrays a gap in a mountain. We are not sure where of where this area is that is portrayed in the picture or sketch. We have also made a tray that rests at the top where the original one once did. The interior wood and tray have received two coats of polyurethane. The interior bottom has a stress crack or two running through it which is quite typical for these older trunks. Other than that, the interior is in

Antique Steamer Trunk* Antique Steamer Trunk measures 32 x 18.5 x 12.5; made of wood covered with canvas. Inside there is a shelf with separate compartment that lifts out. Attached to the inside of the lid there is an envelope style compartment. There is a lock and two latches. The lock does not have a key so we use the latches to secure the truck closed. The fitting right above the lock is missing two of it’s four nails so it loose. There are no leather handles on the trunk. I am not an antique dealer/expert and am describing the trunk to best of my ability and knowledge. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. Beautiful Antique Dome Half Trunk This is one of the nicest. Most stylish half trunks I have come across in my 25+ years of refinishing and collecting. Technically, this is a hat or bonnet trunk, but many refer to them as half trunks as well. My wife actually purchased this some years back and it has been in my collection, but now it's time to make room for a"larger model" This trunk is actually a little smaller than a true"half" trunk, but it has all the hardware and adornments of the larger fancy dome tops. Notice the wide scalloped metal banding surrounding the top and sides. This is the only trunk I've ever seen with this feature. Very fancy hardware, decorative handle caps, thick solid wood, very well made, solid/stout, all intact and in excellent condition. Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps and Interior Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps and Buckles and Interior Tray Here is a real primitive refinished steamer trunk or antique chest from the 1800's. This one is made up of pine base wood with poplar outer slat boards. It is probably from the Civil War era and has the original lock. The lock is there. But we could not find a key that works with it. So we are selling it in"As Is" condition as far as the lock goes. The trunk has the following dimension s: from left to right across the front is 27 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 12 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in the wood along with some stress cracks. A small ... morepiece of one of the top outer slat boards has been chipped away, probably many years ago. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These will secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. There were no front latches on this trunk. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. All of our leather products for these trunks are obtained from an Amish man near our home in Pennsylvania. You might want to use this trunk to store your Civil War items, coins, or other personal valuables inside. Our trunks have been used to display teddy bear and doll collections. Going to the inside, we have made a nice tray for the interior. The interior tray and interior wood have been given two coats of polyurethane. The interior wood is rough cut boards with the saw blade marks still on them. A nice picture of a Victorian girl posing has been added to the underside of the top. Going underneath the trunk to the exterior bottom, it is in decent shape and we have finished the bottom with a coat of polyurethane to make the trunk overall cleaner. Beautiful Antique Barrel Top Trunk Even though this trunk does not have some of the fancy hardware and design that others do. This is one of my favorite trunks from my collection. It is simple yet extremely elegant and stylish. The wood tone is very rich and the wood is soft and smooth. It has a nice lock and fairly rare latches that have a spring design which you pull down to latch and unlatch. For sale today is a beautifully restored flat top trunk with embossed tin in a fine wire mesh pattern. A very good original interior and the original tray. I did not find a patent date on the trunk and based on 40 plus years of restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880's to 1890's which makes this neat old flat top as much as 124 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of clear, original slats, four original metal skids. The three original hinges are HD, fancy,tight and the lid closes well. There are 19 polished pieces of original hardware. The Corbin center lock is polished and there is no key. The mechanical ... morelatches are polished, HD, fancy, tight and work well. The original interior and tray are in very good condition for a trunk of this age The metal/tin is in VGC. The lid stay is original. The lid lifters are built into the mechanical latches. There are 9 solid oak slats in a golden oak color. New black leather handles were installed with new end caps. Cute small size travel trunk from the late 1800's thru the turn of the century measuring approx. 20-1/2" wide x 13-3/4" x 15" high. Weighing 15.2 pounds as you see it here this little trunk has the original green canvas covering with clean wood slat contruction. The interior has the original lift out tray with its aged paper! The bottom of the trunk is solid wood. The body is wood under the canvas so you could refinish it to a beautiful pine color if you wanted a project. Use it this way or strip it down to refinish either way its a great size you just don't find these little ones very often in original condition. The handles. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area, and Original Tray With Lids and Pictures Here is an absolutely beautiful dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the late 1800's. There are twelve pictures above for you to view and some of them are two in one. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it. There are some typical distress marks in various places on the wood. ... moreThese include older nicks and dings along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have these similar antique markings which have accumulated over the trunk's long journey or existence. This one has the nice vertical outer slat boards along with horizontal slat boards. The trunk maker did a nice job of putting fancy cap metal on these slat boards. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. So we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is that it comes with the original patent dated working lock. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The key hole cover is patented, Mar 69& Apr 71" We are not always able to match up keys so that the trunk locks work, but in this case we have. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle cap metal is cast iron with cute little perforated stars and triangles on them. Some of the slat board cap metal is also patent dated. It is hard to make it out clearly, but it looks like patented 16 of 80, referring to possible March 16 of 1880 because we have had similar hardware
