This sweet bit of Americana measures 20” tall x 17” wide x 9” deep and boast 4 molded drawers with dovetailed construction(front; square nail back) and thick hand chamfered drawer bottoms. The sides feature raised panels with compass corners and graceful cuts repeating the profile of the front skirt. It is primarily pine with tulip poplar back; some of the drawer bottoms are pine and others poplar and retains its original heavily distressed dark grain painted surface overall. The porcelain knobs on the top drawer are original; the rest are modern replacements. It has some“dog chews” I don’t know what else to call them) on the front corners and some general flaking of the paint. There is a missing piece of molding on the side. Exquisite grain painted cottage chest with the best colors you will ever find! The colors work well with both dark oak and pine since they are very neutral in tone. Grain painting became popular in the mid 1800's when immigrants moved from the northern areas if the US to the west. The west didn't provide the fine wood sources if the north(maple. Oak, cherry etc) So they made the chests and furniture of pine- and often feather painted the surface to appear like the rich nice woods available in the north! The detailing on the drawers is wonderful. I posted a photo of the drawer edge because the chest drawers are put together with dowels. NEW MEANING TO BIG BOX! This is an antique genuine early 19th c grain painted pine Blanket Chest Box done in vivid flame dual central patterning on the front. Painted on the top and sides to match, with contrast trim and turned turnip leg foot in black for visual effect and balance. Please look at the pictures taken outside in natural sunlight at all angles. The paintwork is guaranteed original to the piece with no signs of touch up-an important part of valuation. Small crackle patch to one side stable just need to mention. Dimensions are large rectangular shape and measurements coming soon. I was not going to go out today but your glad I did! look at this little Q-T! in orig paint wonderful dovetail construction. the best size! look at those hinges. You will want to display this open its so nice. its been years since I have found one,very rare to find small dovetailed kids boxes. this is great for the top of the stack! its old and dry. well used and lots of life left. it has some drips of over paint and a little swab of white wash(see picks) i am sure it will come off, but I know better to fiddle with this painted stuff! don't want your feathers ruffled! I will leave the clean up and waxing to you. I did take out the lining that was stapled in. it was covering the rat tail hinges! the locks gone and grandpa put some ceder in the bottom to make it smell nice and keep out the moths! there is a board nailed on the back witch ... moreyou can pop off it has orig square nails holding it on! been there forever like a lid stop. as you see there is normal ware etc. all the molding is orig and all there. have at it folks. winner pays all shipping and insurance. or you can pick up for free! size is 25 1/2 ins wide 13 1/2 deep by 12 ins tall! no reserve sweet!

CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN GRAIN PAINTED BLANKET CHEST OVER SCROLLED FEET Pennsylvania. C. 1820-40 Item# 1406XCY28P This precious find is in untouched condition. Retaining originality in every aspect of the facade and structure- most importantly, the delightful scrolled front feet are untouched and entirely original to the case. The grain painted surface is a kaleidoscope of chaotic but nearly symmetrical pigment, mostly blends of ochre, the resulting effect highly understated, only fully developing in the eye after looking upon the surfaces for a period of time. It is a deeply patinated surface, the whole full of character and craquelure amidst the oxidized chips, dings and abrasions. Most of the chest is crafted of large planks of Yellow Pine, ... morethese dovetailed along the sides and back. The till lid is Yellow Poplar and the feet are undetermined. The back feet are just as magnetic as the front, the form in an overall taper embellished by scratch-beading in the swell and relieved by swelling rings over the ball toes. They were crafted with a slight lift over the front feet, giving the entire chest the slightest"downward" slant- the effect of this is rather ingenious, relieving the squareness of the profile by giving a more full view of the top. The top lifts over"Baldwin" hinges, one of the most active and well respected hinge foundries in the UK during the 19th century. A truly remarkable find. Particularly in it's simply stunning untouched condition. Measurements: 24 1/4" high x 38 3/4" wide x 19" deep Condition Report: Original grain painted surface with craquelure throughout- numerous areas of wear. This is a very clean great looking pine blanket chest originally made in the mid to late 1800's on Cape Cod. This chest is grain painted and has a drawer that is stained a fairly darker cranberry color. Really nice contrast to the amber color of the rest of the case. The drawer has the original brass pulls. And the hinges are original as well. The top is fastened to a board along the back edge of the case top. The hinges are recessed into the wood. Very cool. There are great square nails throughout this chest. The back is 2 wide boards, unpainted. Over all the condition is great, just a few minor nicks and scratches as you would expect on chests of this vintage. No rot or damage on the feet. The dimensions are 18.5 W x 43L x 34.5H.
