This is a large chest that offers additional storage with style and elegance with the fine quality craftsmanship of the 19th century. This marble top chest is crafted in beautiful Rosewood with its original beveled edge marble top that is in wonderful antique condition but does have some dis-coloration as common in old marble. Here is a Victorian Rosewood Antique Dressing& Travelling Case/Box The box has a Rosewood veneer with an applied brass edging and stringing. There is a centre brass cartouche. The hinges holding the lid on are good. The interior of the lid incorporates a fold down panel. One side is ruffled velvet with a gilt leather edging, the reverse is a calf skin pouch. The base of the box reveals a pull out drawer and I would have imagined that there was a tray above it but it is now not present. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN VANITY JEWELRY BOX IN ROSEWOOD WITH SECRET DRAWER
Victorian era vanity case probably used when travelling. It is constructed of rare rosewood with silk material lining and glass jars and bottles with silver plated tops. One glass bottle has a small chip out of the neck not affecting it's operation. The strip that once held tools such as nail files is a bit loose could be repaired but I have tried to leave it as original as possible. There is a secret jewelry drawer under that can be released once you open the box top and pull up a button. It is spring loaded and pops out. There is a more recent black velvet lining to the base of this drawer. There are stop hinges that support the lid when open. There is a lock but no key- one of the hooks for the lock is broken on the lid. There is a mother of pearl(MOP) escutcheon for the lock and a blank cartouche also in MOP to the lid. I have had full sized sewing cabinet/writing cabinets before in my collection but never a table cabinet such as this. The rosewood is a very high caliber grain and contrasts well again the mother of pearl inlay on the outside and on the 2 pull our drawers. Th mother of pearl is in good condition. The inside door lids are lined in deep ox blood red leather which has gold decoration. The 2 pull out drawers are smooth and tidy and in good condition. The inside top lid has been weathered a bit with age(150 years old or so) but shows its authenticity. The lid has matching ox blood red and gold border. The rest is lined in sky blue silk. The brass hinges are bright and strong. Comes with what look ... morelike the original key. The lock moves slightly but will not lock. I think this could just need some coaxing. The wood has been cleaned and polished so the rosewood grain looks beautiful especially when contrasting against the interior and inside doors. As can be clearly seen in the pictures. Is in good condition for age with markings commensurate with age of course. 1 side ring handle is missing and can be replaced and i think 1 of the bun feet has been replaced as it is very slightly different than others but this can not be noticed easily. ANTIQUE EARLY VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD VANITY/JEWELLERY BOX 1860s
This is a beautiful polished Rosewood and Mahogany vanity box from a short period in the 1860s when these items were in production. The front and top surfaces have ornate whorls of Rosewood grain veneer on a solid Mahogany base. There is a Mother of Pearl cartouche and the key hole is inlaid with a satinwood surround- the is no key. The top opens to show 11 compartments for unguents. Perfumes and tinctures, as well as jewellery- possibly the less valuable. Three of the linings are of tin, to hold the liquids and the central compartments in red velvet. There is a brass rod that withdraws to allow the sprung side drawer to open and reveal the a jewellery drawer- in silk(some spotting) and the velvet ring holder row. Below the lid is a letter.
