English Chippendale George II Mahogany Kneehole Desk Chest Drawers, 18th Century

Fine English Chippendale Mahogany Kneehole Desk c. 1740-60 Originality preserved throughout in the hardware and feet- Only the desk is being offered in this listing. The chair shown is offered elsewhere in our collection Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably preserved English Chippendale Period Kneehole Desk. Circa 1740-50. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk, just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware ... moreadorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. This is a unique addition for the craftsman to make, as many of these knee hole desks are without such innovations. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. ANTIQUE 17TH 18TH CENTURY CAPTAINS CHEST WRITING WOOD & BRASS BOX
Up for bid is an antique wood and brass box. I'm not an expert but from what I could gather it appears to date from the 17th or 18th Century. It may have been used as a ship captain's chest or strong box or a writing box. It has a number of internal compartments including one that locked. There is also one that looks like it would have held pen quills. The wood is quite dark and very hard and dense and the brass is hand wrought. It measures about 16 1/2" long x 10 1/2" deep x 4 1/4" tall and is very heavy. I have included a lot of pictures but please feel free to ask for more and ask any questions. A late18th to early 19th Century American Chippendale large chest of drawers. Possibly Southern in origin. Height- 43 5/8 inches Width- 43 inches Depth- 20 inches American Revolutionary to Federal Period large chest of drawers. Appropriate wear to the internal parts and rails consistent with the age. Original finish with wear. Replacement handles. The chest may have originally had single drop pulls and as there is a single hole space under the present handles. Mahogany or black cherry veneer over poplar or elm secondary woods. All woods are well desiccated. Appropriate to the suggested time period. Appears that all of the original wood is intact including secondary woods. Varied hand cut dovetails. Mortise and tenon interior. Original back panels. Hand chamfered throughout. Interesting progression of individual drawer height; top- 5 7/8 inches, ... moresecond- 6 7/8 inches, third- 7 7/8 and bottom- 8 7/8 inches. Top drawer face is beveled edged. Antique Victorian Chinese Camphor Wood Trunk Chest Locker Early 1800's or Older This is a beautiful piece. It measure's 37"x19"x16" larger once boxed) and is in really good antique condition. It has a strong patina and the exterior front lock cover has been lost. All of the other hardware. Hinges, handles, corners. And molding braces are in place. It has a scratches and marks all over the outside, but the inside is in great shape. The bottom panel has a crack in it. But it doesn't appear to effect anything. I didn't even see it until I was taking pics of the bottom. It is visible in the pic 8. A few of the previous owners left there names and dates that they owned the trunk during the 1800's. It appears it was passed down through several generations of a family of San Franciscans and San Francisco Bay Area. ... moreI know a little bit about this family through some research. Most of them have an easily traceable history. I am not going to make their names public however. A person of good authority was able to translate the cursive writing under the lid and revealed that the outer trim around the top and bottom of the trunk were installed as protective measures while traveling. Here is what he could make out: These trunk? corners. Top and bottom of trunk can be(revealed, seen, uncovered? by unscrewing the screws and slipping the strips off. Strips only were used while traveling. Here is a little bit more of what this person shared with me: The type of chest you have is the very best. These chests are made by Chinese craftsmen and have invisible dovetails. Incised brass fittings and a floating panel top(to prevent it from splitting in different climates) There was a very active trade with China when San Francisco was a boom town and these chests were brought in by the hundreds. Most have disappeared or are held by descendants of the original owners. The man who did the fitting did it very cleverly– probably a real craftsman who knew what he was doing. 18 th to 19 th CENTURY ANTIQUE EUROPEAN CAMEL BACK TRUNK Up for sale is my 18 th to 19 th Century Antique European Camel Back Trunk that came from the Estate of Lydia Gordon in Santa Cruz. CA(my sister-in-law) The history as I know it is Lydia is from the Netherlands and in 1971 came to America with my brother and brought the Camel Back Trunk with her. I estimate the age to be between the late 18 th century and the 19 th century. Square nails were used to construct this trunk this type of nail was used during this time; they stopped using square nails at the turn of the 20 th century. I had an appraiser look at this trunk and her estimate was around one million in excellent condition. However this trunk is in good condition with the exception of some rough areas such as the wooden wheels. Wooden axel and the trunks stand. This chest of drawers was handed down to me by my aunt. Who's still with us at 98 years young. She lived in Chicago and probably got it there. I'm told that it's circa 1780/90 and English in origin. I took plenty of pictures for you to see. It does need quite a bit of work. Which is what I was going to do. But never got around to. Rare Early American Folk Art Pegged Oak Chest c. 18th/19th Century
I have an early American pegged oak trunk from the late 18th/early 19th century or possibly older. Its in structurally good shape but has some ware to the front and a small area on the left. Its a very interesting piece of furniture as it has no nails. All the joints are hand carved and pegged together, even the wood was hand hewn. Its possibly a colonial piece that was made by farmers or settlers on the East Coast. It also has designed carved into the surface that look like Native American designs like arrow heads. Iv never really seen anything like it. Also the metal component for the lock is forged from the look of it. The only piece on the chest that seems to be new is the hinges which consist of two wooden dowels placed on each side to hold the lid in place. Early Small Dome Top Trunk/Chest 18th century? Rocking chair in first photo is listed in another auction. They have similar colors but absolutely came from different sources. I date this box from other photos of known pieces: Primitive hand wrought lock. No key, but, not a difficult one to make. Looks older than other locks I know to be early 19th century I measured it a while ago. will have to measure it again, it is*close* to 30" x 20" deep x 24" high. Very Rare late 18th to early 19th Century Wooden Travel Trunk
Here is an early dome top personal valise or travel trunk. The trunk is trimmed in leather with nail head accents and the interior retains a paper lining which states the maker as NATH’l B. March Portsmouth. The paper bears the date of 1810. While we were told the trunk shows earlier construction. There are leather interior straps with buckles for securing the packed items, and there is an iron lock with no key present. The domed lid has become separated from the rounded base.
