18th C. Antique Chest, Vibrant 19th C. Grain Paint, Orig. Hardware, Unrestored
This is an 18th C. chest that was intricately grain painted in the early to mid 19th C. The grain painted hardware. And almost all of the fasteners, appear to be original to the chest. The chest is 47"W, 23.5"D, 17"H(not counting the casters) and perhaps 100 lbs. The chest is functional and extremely solid with grain painted metal corners and edges. However, it is ~230+ years old and there are condition issues. The right hinge has been repaired with a modern bolt. Also, there is a ~2" area of the left rear top that has been weakened by the open till door and potential water exposure. Surprisingly, there is very little movement, or play, in the hinges. The original feet are missing and very old casters are in their place. There are areas of missing paint, particularly the left top. Please see the pictures, and request others ... moreif you would like to see more detail. If desired, each of these condition issues(including the missing paint) could be resolved by a skilled furniture restorer. Others may enjoy the chest as it is. Antique German Hopf Tiger Maple 4/4 Violin Coffin Case Grain Paint To Restore
This nice quality middle 1800s violin measures 23 ½” long x 8” wide and has a one piece figured maple back branded HOPF near the top. The face is of fir and the sides are of figured maple and the neck is carved from beech. I see no splits or breaks. This violin is in need of restoration and has some rubs and nicks on the edges as well as small spots where the face and back need re-attached to the sides. ANTIQUE PENNSYLVANIA CHILD'S ROCKING CHAIR, ORIGINAL GRAIN PAINT & DECORATION
Here is an antique Pennsylvania child's rocking chair in original ochre grained paint with brown and black painted decoration on the arms. Legs, seat, back spindles and top crest. Pinstriping was done in black. The thicker stripes and other decoration were done in brown. I would estimate that this chair was made in the late nineteenth century. It is in marvelous condition showing only minor wear that I would expect to see in a chair of this age that was used and well taken care of. It is of solid construction that will enable it to support dolls or reasonably well behaved small children for another century or two. There is some light wear to the paint of the seat and minor chipping to the paint as can be seen in the photos which show the chair from every angle. For sale is a Vintage Ludwig Standard Snare numbered 16341 this item is Very Rare. The color is Blueish Black Wood Grain Paint job. This item is used and does show plenty signs of wear(with aim signs of what looks like some starting of rust in the chrome) and age but I am sure it can be cleaned up but it has plenty of life left in it. 1966 Ludwig Supraphonic custom paint burgundy with wood grain
I paint custom cars and build and refinish drums so I have started resurrecting these old shells that normally would be discarded because the chrome is so bad. Now the shells look brand new and have been clear coated with a dupont automotive grade urethane which if taken care of will last a lifetime. The shell has been buffed and polished to a high gloss and the wood grain I did with airbrush and candy black is very faint and really quite cool. This is a great looking and great sounding drum with original snares, remo ambassador reso head and remo renaissance batter head. This is THE model of drum that is on more hit recordings than any other and is the right vintage as well. Early Colonial Arch Front Cupboard Original Oxblood - Mustard Grain Paint
Primitive Cabinet* This is an exceptional and very early colonial American cupboard. I purchased this from UT1869. A top rated antique dealer of exquisite, authentic Americana in Virginia in 2004. I have moved to a smaller home and this piece needs a new home. I listed this as early and I believe 1740- 1760, but I am not an expert nor a dealer so I welcome any questions, information or requests for more images to help you decide. I see several different layers of'coloration' The base layer is oxblood. Then a mustard paint. It is heavily'alligatored' The inside is untouched. The original latch mechanism is no longer functioning, although the metal pieces are there. It would need restoration to the metal latching portion on the door to make it original. It has an old knob on the door and a metal twist latch that allows for closure. ... moreThere are areas of the cornice pieces that need tightening as shown. The back board is chamfered and in the original oxblood color. The door frame is mortise and tenon as are other portions of the framework. On the top there are 4 holes of unknown purpose(each measures 1/2" in diameter) There are no signs on the back that this cabinet was ever hung apart from the 4 holes mentioned in the top where it may have been hung from above. The backboard is one piece of wood measuring 22 1/4" across& 25 1/2" top to bottom(without framework) I see about 4 or 5 square-head nails but they are deep and covered with age& patina. The sides have large dovetailing visible at the base. A truly superb find with exquisite patina! Measurements: 27" high 23 3/4" across the front base 27" across the top cornice piece& 11 1/4" deep 9 3/4" case depth 8 3/8" shelf depth Weight is approx 35 lbs This great piece is available for pickup in Yakima. DOVETAILED 24" LONG 10 1/2" HIGH ANTIQUE TRUNK REMNANTS OF EARLY GRAIN PAINT
Offered for auction is a wonderful early 19th century dovetailed dome top trunk with remnants of original grain paint. The trunk retains that wonderful"musty" odor antiques acquire over the years. I just love it. And it is a further indication of the age of this wonderful trunk. This wonderful, solid trunk measures 23" in length, 10 1/2" in height, 12 1/4" in width and is in good, solid, used condition with no holes or breaks. The bottom of the trunk is constructed with one solid piece of wood. The newspaper which lines the interior is original to the trunk and as expected shows staining, some wear, and minor damage. There are articles listed in the paper which dates the paper to 1832. There are small areas on the exterior of the cover, mainly on one edge and the very back side of the cover(photos 4& 8) which ... moreshows areas of wood filler used to protect the cover. This was done years ago and thanks to this care the trunk remains in very good condition for it's age. There was a small repair made to the area on which one hinge is attached(photo 10) This is a early repair as well and due to this repair the hinge is sound and solid. As you can see from my photos there is wear to the wonderful grain paint which covers the trunk. This is due to age and normal use. A wonderful Country Primitive with original mustard grain paint. We found this locally in Lancaster County. This is from the late 19th century. Circa 1880's or earlier. The upper portion has a lovely deep scalloped overhang all the way around the top and sides of the mirror frame. There is a little shelf under the mirror and a deep slant lid lift top box. The base repeats the deep scalloped shape along the bottom front and the sides of the box. Condition: Lapped and nailed construction. Made of pine, it shows good age with little nicks and scrapes to the surface. All very strong and stable. Very sweet old child's toy or miniature coffee mill. It measures 3 1/4" to top of hopper X 2 5/8" wide at base. 4 1/2" to top of nob at handle. The drawer is 1 3/4" X 1 3/8" I put a cracked coffee bean in it and it worked well but it would take a while to get enough for a cup coffee. No brand markings I can find. Metal top and drawer front with wood base and drawer body. Believe this is vintage as has been in our family for many years. Chips in the paint and tears to the sand paper under the drawer is flaws. Offered here. Ca. 1840s +, a very nice candle box or storage box, in excellent condition and bearing its original hand done grain paint. In the photos I tried to show the small hand cut nails, the joints, the champher on the lid, and the general soundness of the box. The interior is clean and shows only in one corner a small area of light discoloration from a water stain. Over all though the pine in this box is so nice it is hard to see why anyone would have painted it. Paint it they did, in what looks to me the manner of a fine furniture maker-an underlying rouge gesso seal with deliberate grain painting on top. I think the texture was created by using a feather, not a brush. In any case a great deal of the original finish remains. This box measures 11 1/4" wide, 15" long and 8" high. Rare 19th C. Antique GRAIN PAINT DECORATED CAST IRON INFANT CASKET w/View Panels A rare and seldom seen cast iron baby’s casket from the 19th century. It has a wood grain painted finish and has two removable cast iron plated concealing glass viewing panels. There are no marks indicating a maker. Both panels have an embossed“3” and penciled numbers: 2820. It measures 42” long x 13” wide x 9-1/2” high. The sight size of the glass viewing panels measure 7-1/4” x 16-1/4” It has a bit of paint loss and the bottom was originally unfinished as you can see in the images below. One of the heads of the screws holding the panels in place broke off and a replacement was added. The original screw with the broken head is included. Other than that it is in very good condition and complete with the original glass panels. Obviously it was never used and we ... moretheorize that it was bought by a family with an ill child but the child survived and it became un-needed. This is an Old horse drawn superior Grain Drill. It looks in good shape please see the pictures to show how much of the original wording is still on the drill. The wooden wheels look in good shape. But one looks like it was next to a fire and is black see picture. The other has one spot that I was not real happy with so I took a picture to show. But by no means are they bad we wheeled it around no problem. It still has some of the original paper work on the inside of the seed boxes. This is a 7 hole drill. It has all the single trees and double trees to hook your horse to. Now for any one who thinks these are just for show the last picture shows a field that I drill this spring with a drill like this. This item is a Barbour linen thread spool display case or cabinet. It is lithographed metal with a dark brown grain painted exterior. Overall. The case is in fair condition. Most of the gold painted labeling is legible. It says at the top“Embroider your linens with linen, and it looks like the case was hung on a wall at one time-metal hanger visible on the center interior. The metal joint in the upper left corner is separated, and the Barbour’s Linen Thread name plate in the center of the display case is dented quite a bit. Some of the paint/lithography is missing on the interior, and the interior is dirty. On the exterior, there are scratches and markings, and the metal joint at the bottom front is a bit separated. This wonderful bit of late 1800s Americana began with a nicely crafted“studio” violin that was damaged and adapted to later use using basic home repairs and hand whittled tuning pegs. The owner crafted an extra nice grain painted poplar and walnut case to house the instrument and fashioned a new black painted wooden bow using a studio made frog to which was added a whittled cow bone screw. This instrument was recently discovered in an Indiana barn and is very dirty with numerous old repairs and is offered to restore or enjoy as an untouched example of the clever make-do folk idiom. Offered here is an antique cash register drawer for restoration and/or parts. It is made of metal but painted to look like mahogany. Some of the paint is worn off. The drawer slides in and out smoothly. This is a very clean piece of merchandise. There is no rust. It measures 18 1/8" long. 15 1/8" deep, and 5" high. It is very heavy, 27 lbs. I can see no name or makers mark on this item. I am not familiar with these machines, so I do not know what, if anything other than the actual cash register itself, is missing. It still retains its original iron hinges and its original brass top handle. The PAINT AND SURFACE is Great. Original base coat of the best ochre and brown FANCY GRAIN paint that has oxidized and crackled just the way you hope for. On top of the grain paint is the most extraordinary APPLE and LEAF painted decoration. The paint is fantastic. All original square nail construction. No splits or breaks in the bentwood top. The original ... morelock has been replaces. It originally had an outside iron lock and was replaces about 30 years ago with a brass lock. At that time they replaced the area of the lock with an added piece of wood and professionally painted this small area in to match. Whoever the restorer was, they did a phenomenal job. they matched the grain, color and nearly the patina perfectly. The box came from a family in Brookfield. MA whose ancestors came from New Hampshire. they has an expert look at it about 30 years ago who told them it might be painted by the"Bears& Pears" artist from Southern New Hampshire. We do not attribute it to him but the quality and folksy aspect to the piece are quite well done. This great little document box is 16" wide. 8" deep and 8" tall. It exhibits only the typical wear and tear you would see from 200 years of use as I have shown in the photos. A truly great find especially in such fine condition and surface. Antique 19th century Small Child's Rocker old grain paint stenciling East Coast
Up for consideration is fine antique Small Child's Rocker(2 or 3 year old) with good old paint and stenciling. It measures about 25 1/2 inches tall by 15 1/2 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches deep. With a seat height of 10" One spindle has been replaced under the arm. There may be some stenciling enhancements on the top rail on the back of the rocker. There is some faux painted seat. Plank solid one piece seat. The chair looks surprisingly big in the photo but it really is quite small. My daughter is 6 years old and she is way to big for it.
