With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! The wardrobe side even has its Original Wooden Hangers that are built right in and an ingenious Slide Bar so you can decrease the area as the size of your clothing dictates. Below the wardrobe is a fold down box which we assume was for shoes. To the Right is a 4 Drawer Dresser with Drawers for even more storage. The drawers are all relatively narrow given the trunk's size but they are all Extra Deep! Outside. The trunk has a Black Leather like outer surface with Big Metal Corner Protectors on all Corners and all the Protectors are Intact! The black outer surface has some wear as would be expected but given the 100+ age of the trunk, it really is not bad at all. This is an outstanding antique from 1835- dated newspaper as lining. This leather covered wood trunk or chest measures 25" by 12" by 10" high. As mentioned it is lined in very old newspaper- all dated around 1835. The overall condition is good for its age: the two iron handles are still in tact. Most of the brass studs are present, the front latch is non functional, the hinges with square nails are fine. It is a very special piece of 19th century history. Genuine Antique Flat Top Steamer / Travel Trunk 2 Trays Storage Chest
Free local pick-up only. From a local M id S outh E state. this Antique Flat Top Steamer/ Travel TRUNK made between 1880 and 1920. After 1920. As trunks became mass-produced they were labeled with the"makers mark" Measures 36" length x 24 1/2" height x 21" width. This is a solid piece; all metal strapping, corner bindings& hardware is intact. The wood parts of the trunks structure are time worn but intact as well. The YALE lock is intact but there is no key. The two leather side carry straps have long since torn away- easy to replace with an old leather belt. Seldom found are the 2 interior trays that appear to be original to this piece. The top tray(photos#8& 9) has finger-hole lifts at each end; measures 33 1/2 length x 18" width x 4" depth. The tray flap-over lid is secured via 3 hinges on one ... moreside. The other would have been secured via the leather snap straps but again the leather has deteriorated away. The 2nd tray(photo#10) has what appears to be some sort of textile handle-straps to lift it out with; measures 35" length x 13 3/4" width x 7 1/2" deep. The interior of the trunk measures 19 1/2" overall depth. Understand that this truck is close to 100 years old and therefore smells old as well. Both the interior and the exterior of this trunk are genuinely time worn. A beautiful old aged piece as is or restore and make it your own. This is from the 1800s and from what I can gather, through a little research, it's probably from the 1850s to 1870s but, I'm not positive.you girls who collect these things will know by looking at it, immediately. It Measures 14" Long X 8 1/8" Front to Back X 9" Tall. Both the Trunk and the Tray are structurally sound with no loose joints or corner wiggling or racking.it's firm all around. The Latch is Original, I believe but the rear hinges look to be of a later date. There is no key and was lost probably a very long time ago. One of the Leather Handles is torn off but I have left it in the tray for you. This sale is for a domed top wood travel steamer trunk from the 1800s. The trunk is sturdy and in good condition. The outside appears to be original and not refinished etc. It has the travel decals with dates and ports. It left from Wales England and arrived in Boston Mass in the usa. They traveled on A Cunard ship which apparently is still a company today. It has only one metal handle. The inside has been painted. It is large at approx. 33" long 22" wide and 24" tall. Antique victorian flat top 1880's steamer travel chest/trunk. It is all original. Inside and out. It has well defined clinched binding and oak slats. In between the oak slats it has the original brown canvas on wood. The original leather straps on each side are still present. The inside has the original lift out divided wood tray covered in paper. There is age wear to the paper. There are four wheels on the bottom edges. On the underside is stenciled lettering that says in part Manufactured expreslsy for R.H. Co. Antique Flat Top Victorian Travel Steamer Trunk 1880 Canvas Decorative Old
This a flat top Steamer Trunk. It is canvas. I do not know anything about the history of it. It does say. In very small letters, what seems to be Potomac 1880. I am sure it says 1880, but I am not sure about the name. I can definitely make out Pot(o or p) mac. I am sorry for the quality of the pictures and I do have more pictures,but Ebay limits to 12. I do believe by the looks of it that it very old. It is what it looks to me like a Victorian style trunk. It is missing the leather handles on each side. The top does have one lever hinge. so the lid does open correctly. It seems to be missing the inside wood shelf. It has very small wheels on the bottom for moving around. One wheel is missing. When setting on the floor, the wheels are not visible. Spring loaded-drop down whichever they are. Nice Antique 1800's Small Dome Top Child’s Travel Chest
You are bidding on a VERY RARE and Nice Antique 1800's Dome Top Child’s Travel Chest. This chest does need a LOT of tender loving care. This travel chest is a wooden box covered with a designed paper material adorned with leather straps/bands along the bottom of the top lid. It has metal ornate bands holding down the wood strapping. A brass tone front locking mechanism. But we have no key. The box measures 14 inches long x 8 ½ inches wide not counting the wooden strapping and 9 ½ inches tall at the center of the dome. It is in need of restoration but is a very old and unique item that would make a great antique display. Comes from an old estate barn and begs for TLC. Antique Wood & Metal Flat Top Travel Trunk- Refinished
Flat top trunk measures 38" side to side; 20" front to back; has 2" wheels on bottom and is 14 3/4" tall with the wheels included. Rollers not original but give it the extra height it needs for a perfect coffee table; wood slats on top wide enough to place coffee cup in between. Been totally re-done- has double coat of stain with poly finish for easy soap and water clean up. Metal hardware has brassy look to it and all original.
