Up for consideration is a rare. Restored, antique wall trunk. It has a working lock& key. It has dated hinges that read"Dec 22 1891" It has been cleaned well inside and out. A new covering was put inside to resemble the old, so no musty smell. All original hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. New leather handles were put on. It has the original 4 metal coasters on the bottom and are in great shape also. The only issue I have seen is that the leather straps and 1 handle will need to be replaced. You are viewing an authentic Black and Gold 1800's Antique Victorian Embossed Camelback Chest with wheels in great for age condition. This piece is commonly referred to as a Steamer Trunk. Humpback Trunk, or Dome Top Trunk. In the past these trunks were used as luggage for prolonged trips by train. Steam-ship or stage-coach. Today these trunks are often considered family heirloom pieces. And make for stylish home decor storage pieces. I am not experienced enough to date this piece. However, I found two different date codes on the piece-Pat Jul 972/Pat March 1880. I believe it to be July 9 1872 and March 1880. It has the original finish and great old hardware lock. Purchased at an antique auction it dates to the mid to late 1800's. The inside of the trunk is lined with layers of antique newspapers dating to 1865. Great old advertising. The newspapers are not in the best of condition and are hanging in some areas and falling apart. I have left them as they were found because it does help verify the age of the trunk. Most people will want to remove the paper and clean the trunk. You may be able to save some of the newspaper and advertising. The trunk measures about 11 inches high. It is 11 inches deep(front ... moreto back) and 21 inches side to side. It is in good antique condition. There are imperfections as would be expected. Marks in the wood here and there and there is a slight separation of the boards on one end as shown in the photos. Please refer to photo#5. The lid of the trunk has a separation in the boards; please refer to photos 7& 8. An unusual lock which I am not familiar with. It has a small lever which slides over the opening for the key and this does stick a little; it should loosen up nicely with a little care. I do not think all of the lock is there; it appears there should be another piece on the lid. As I said I am unfamiliar so I am not sure; just using my best guess in regards to the lock. Please refer to photo# 6. There is no key. Wonderful old trunk. It looks great displayed and would be a nice addition to any collection. Up for bid is an extremely rare and beautiful 1800's VICTORIAN WOOD AND CAST IRON HUMP BACK STEAMER TRUNK. This is a old wood trunk that is very majestic in appearance. It is beautifully crafted of an inner wood body covered in beautiful black metal sheet. Fantastic wooden bumper panels on all sides, even more so fantastic cast iron metal work of every latch, hinge, and edge trimming throughout trunk(including bottom which has small cast iron wheels) One of my favorite parts of this gorgeous trunk is the original 1800's lock and latch, it absolutely beautiful. Inside of trunk is extremely spacious and has a very clear, bold original colored illustration of a beautiful Victorian era woman starring off into the distance. The trunk itself measures at 34 1/2" long. 20" wide and 23 1/2" tall, and is what I consider, a larger ... moretrunk. It has aging wear but it has fantastically aged, could be easily used for display or everyday use as well as it is very sturdy and well built. Very nice steamer trunk with colorful green embossed flower tin top. Back hinges in good working condition. Center lock[no key] is marked"Eagle Lock Co. Terryville Conn, USA" The two latches located towards the sides of the front work well. Once engaged. They are secured and released by a small lever on the side of the latch. They are marked"Pat Jul 972" The handles are metal and do not appear to be original. But they look very consistent with the trunk and are solidly mounted. All four wheels on bottom are present and still work. There isn't a lift out drawer or hinge stop. The trunk measures approximately 33" long x 18" wide x 24" tall. The trunk weighs 16 lbs[just the trunk- without packaging] I trust you can tell from the pictures that the trunk isn't perfect. But is in very usable condition ... moreas-is. The inside is clean and the over-all vibe is very nice. The green color of the embossed tin is very pleasant. This beautiful medium sized Dome Top antique trunk. Is in Good condition, with only minor flaws. It measures 18"H x 26 1/2" L x 14" W. The exterior is stunning. Covered beautifully in a black colored tin. With oak slats, accented with black tin hardware, and a nice brass design, that is very desirable amongst collectors. Both side leather straps are in original condition. All of the hardware is original and no longer fasten. There is no key. The inside is beautiful original wood. This is an 1800's small sized domed trunk. All of the compartments are present and still look great. Exterior shows typical wear. There is a pencil written price of $1.50 on the bottom. The pics make this look like a typical big cumbersome trunk but it's actually much smaller with exterior measurements of 18x11x11 inches. Offered here for your consideration is this wonderfully detailed. Sophisticated and adorable Girl’s Trunk from the Victorian era, with riveted brass hearts on the top and two sides. The ornate trim on sides and corners speak volumes of the exceptional quality and character of this piece. There’s something so romantic about it. It would make a lovely gift and a charming addition to any room. The surprise inside just adds to the charm and tells a story of a time very much gone by. The top shelf insert depicts the‘Newport Girl’ cover on two enclosed storage places with its torn and shabby decorated striped paper, which sits atop the matching striped paper lined interior, also torn and shabby. EXTERIOR: The material appears to be painted canvas possibly on wood. Brass strapping, iron hinges and intricate heavy ornate Victorian hardware everywhere, ... morelots of antique brads, with a durable lock closure made by the Eagle Lock Company of Terryville, Connecticut, U.S.A. There is one missing brad and there is no key and crack across the center top(doesn't move when pressed) The trunk has a firm close with a snug fit and sits firmly on the floor with no rocking. Antique Victorian Early 1800's Whaling Ship Dovetail Wood Hand Painted Trunk
I've had this trunk for almost 15 years. It is wood with ornate metal work. Good condition. Very sturdy. Grass green paint. Looks to be the original paint. Inside lid has a whaling ship hand painted on it. Very unique and what drew me to the trunk originally. It was discovered somewhere locally(south central KY) by an older couple in our small town that always dealt in fine antiques. I was in contact with Ken Farmer(Antiques Roadshow) about two years ago and he called this an antique whaling trunk and appraised it for around $1.000-$1500. Measures 35x22x21in.

Antique Wooden Victorian Trunks -circa 1800's
Two antique trucks. First(larger) belonged to my 91 year old mother's aunt and is over 120 years old. The second was bought at an antique store in the 70's for $150 and was estimated at over 100 years old then. It has WWII newspapers in the bottom yet. Used for decoration only. Antique Steamer Trunk Victorian Flat Top Salesman Chest mid 1800's. Red & black
Considering it's age. I would say it's in great condition! There are some signs of aging but it still has all the original pieces, including the hardware. It has been painted red and it's chipping off, revealing a gold and black chest. It's been stored and unaltered. There is some cracked wood on the llid of the trunk. It's a beautiful piece with great potential. After a good authentic refurbishment, it will be amazing! It's a true period piece and a conversation starter!
