This Rhode Island Sheraton solid mahogany rope carved drop leaf table was part of the original furnishings of an in tact early 19th Century Rhode Island estate which we have purchased the main body of its entire furniture collection. One of the finest rope carved drop leaf mahogany Sheraton tables we have had the pleasure of handling in several years-this table has a one board top and drop leaves. The ends of the table are made from solid figured mahogany with carved moldings. It flows into four of the finest rope carved legs we have ever seen terminating into original delicate pivoting caster wheels. The table is in an exceptional all original condition. It has a super mellow patina and appears like it has spent its life in a time capsule. It is 18 3/4" long with its leaves down and 40 1/2" with the leaves locked up. It is 35 3/4" wide and 20 1/2" tall. The rope carved legs(rope carving symbolizing the families fortune was made at sea-as is the case here) have carved rings at their tops. This absolutely fabulous early-mid 19th century oak French dowry chest with carved woman's face. Drop front opening with old lock mechanism and two lower drawers, circa 1830's-1840's, is a rare and wonderful find purchased at an antiques fair in Lyons, France and imported to Charleston,SC by my consignor about 12 years ago and she is now ready to let it go to that right buyer with a special place just for this beauty. This large chest measures 57 inches long by 27 1/2 inches wide by 29 1/2 inches tall. The inside compartment behind the drop front door is 49 inches wide by 24 inches front to back by 16 inches tall, plenty of room for a new brides trousseau and possessions in mid-19th century France. Below are two hand planed and dovetailed drawers, each 18 1/4 inches wide by 21 inches front to back by 3 inches deep with old wood ... moreknob drawer pulls. Antique Trunk Circa 1820's to 1830's 1832 Newspaper Inside Very Old Trunk
For sale today is a beautifully restored smaller primitive trunk. The piece of wood is one piece of wood that has been steam bent. Attached to the inside of the trunk is an 1832 newspaper. The paper is in very poor condition and someone has written circa 1832 on the inside of the lid. This the oldest trunk that I have ever worked on! This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid and has two original slats. The leather hinges are new to the trunk and the lid closes well. The center lock has been polished. Is missing the top half and there is no key. The original wrought iron handles are in VGC. This trunk could be as much as 182 years old! This neat old trunk is 27W. 13 1/2D, 11 3/4H and weighs 12 lbs. When packed and ready to ship this trunk will be 30W, 17D, 15H and weigh 18 lbs. Original Circa 1830's Southern Sugar Chest
For sale is this wonderful original southern sugar chest. Great original worn green paint with all hardware. Dovetailed corners and sliding drawer. The hand forged sugar cutter is inside and works well. Found in central Georgia at an estate sale about 10 years ago and has been in a collection since then. All square head nails except for a couple of no harm round heads used to reinforce a few corners. Well made piece and very attractive size-perfect for table top and a great conversation piece from the period when sugar was actually locked up.
