50 Antique Cast Brass Trunk Tacks, Original 170 years old
The picture gives you an idea of what the tacks look like. You will receive 50 tacks plus a couple of extras. These are 170 year old tacks I removed from an original 1840's relic trunk that is unrestorable. These low-dome. Cast brass tacks are 3/8" diameter and have the typical square shank. Antique tacks are perfect for restoring an original trunk or adding that authentic touch to your Native American or Mountain Man recreations. They are untouched and some will have a little verdigris(green stuff) that will clean up with a toothbrush. I've added a couple of extras in case some break. Here is a real antique. Stagecoach, train luggage trunk. It is leather over wood and it's embellished with brass tacks and a monogram. Has the bottom part of the original lock. Has both handles. The inside is covered with blue and white striped ticking or cloth. That's in very good shape. It has a drop open door in the lid that was used to put either dirty clothes or unmentionables(as they called underwear in those days) Then the top was padded and you could sit on the trunk as a seat as you were waiting for the train or stagecoach. Selling this old travel trunk/chest that I have refinished. The trunk is covered with old brass tacks. The top has a design that resembles a football along with the letters I.W. Prior to refurbishing the chest was covered in deerhide and the brass tacks shown. The interior had newspaper dated 1827. Prior to staining the wood had an almost white color to it. As a result. The Early American Minwax stain looks great on it. The trunk was treated with three coats of polyuerothane. The handles are original as is the lock. There is no key. I add the stays to the trunk. These are antique brass. Square-shanked tacks. When you find these old tacks listed, which is seldom, they are started at $1 per tack. I am going to start these 100 tacks at $49.00. The reason why is that they are at least 200 years old and, when they made these old tacks, the heads were not always round and the shanks were not always perfectly centered to the head. They do not work the way modern tacks work. At this price, you can pick& choose which ones you like best, and if one breaks, I am the one taking the loss. If you want me to write a little note with the tacks on how I have successfully used them, I will include it to the winning bidder. Low Ladies Trunk, in ORIGINAL UNRESTORED condition, from circa 1896-1903. The interior lining and compartments are gone. The original label and serial number are also gone. Only a small swatch of the original fabric remains(white with a red, double pinstripe)The original interior tacks do remain in the lid interior. Structurally the trunk is solid. Both handles are still firmly attached to the trunk. The wooden slats. Including the bottom slats, are in good shape for their age. Inner hinges on lid corners are in good condition. The trunk also latches with minimal effort and some slight latch tab alignment. Trunk doesn't wobble or seem to have a loose joint anywhere. The exterior is in mostly fair condition with ... morea few condition issues. These issues are not uncommon with trunks of this age and include missing or torn fabric. Wear and oxidation of metals, etc. The four bottom castors are also intact. Two roll freely, and the other two do not and have locked up at some point and have flat spots from wear. Brass tacks are all stamped"LOUIS VUITTON. Iron handles stamped"LV" Brass main latch. Latch is very worn and the original stamping is mostly unreadable. However, NEWBOND" can still be seen quite clearly with the naked eye. Also"MADE IN FRANCE" is clearly stamped on the lower part of the latch. The exterior canvas is ALL ORIGINAL. And has NOT been cleaned or restored in any way. The original owner's initials are painted on the side; L. P. It is currently unknown who"L. P. was. This is the first edition of the now world famous Louis Vuitton monogram design. This trunk is of the ORIGINAL, WOVEN cotton based fabric. It has a light monogram on a dark background. It is diminutive in size 27" long x 14" front to back x 11" tall- weight 15lbs aprox Construction looks to be single wide board pine(see photos) All is very strong and tight- Hinges are tight and work as they should. Beautiful. Original condition embossed leather covered salesman sample trunk. Possibly doll or toy trunk. Complete, original interior including compartment in lid, parasol compartment, and removable hat box. Brass keyhole cover, and brass lock. Trunk includes 61 brass tacks on decorative trim, and original star pattern handle covers. The trunk measures 12" long, 7 1/2" wide, and 9" high.
