This is an exceptional antique period American Tiger Maple Chest of Drawers in a Queen Anne form. It measures 72.5 inches in height. The top measures 39x18 inches. The top and base appear to be a marriage with the top being older then the base. The drawer fronts have a pronounced Tiger Maple and the color of the chest is that honey golden brown that is most sought after. The top appears to be a period piece from the early 1800s. The base appears to be more custom made which might be made 50 years ago, it is hard to tell. From looking at the front and sides you would never tell it was a marriage but when you open up ... morethe drawers on the base you can tell they dont have the same age as the top. Due to the size of this piece it either needs to be picked up here on Cape Cod or it must be shipped freight at the cost of the purchaser. Antique Early 19thC American Period Sheraton Chest of Drawers Walnut Mahogany
Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. Evidence of other pulls. The chest has been refinished at least once. There are some cross grain scratches on the sides from previous stripping. EARLY 1800'S ANTIQUE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE BLANKET CHEST TRUNK DRAWERS GRAB LOCK
Here is a fabulous antique American early 19th century Chippendale style footed pine blanket chest or trunk with drawers below. This delightful old trunk is 48 inches long by 21 1/2 inches front to back and 27 1/2 inches tall. The top chest is internally 44 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches front to back by 15 inches deep. With a small lidded compartment 18 1/4 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep as shown. The two lower drawers are hand dovetailed as shown in close ups and measure 20 1/4 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back by 4 inches deep. Again, as stated under condition, I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this great antique blanket chest. As far as provenance, my consignor has owned the trunk for a number of years and remembers ... moreonly that it was acquired through an estate sale. Specifically, this is what he told me was his recollection: The story I was told is that a woman named Bessie Hicks bought the trunk while visiting Muncie Valley PA in the 1950's after WWII. She brought it back to Atlanta GA where she lived. When her estate was broken up it made it's way to Miami and then to Charleston. He added. It appears to have some minor repairs around the feet. Also some sign of blue paint under the bottom. The lock is very fascinating and secured with rose head nails. Lock and key work nicely. That's about all I remember about it. Anyway. It's appearance is consistent with early 1800's Pennsylvania work in the Chippendale style so I chose to report this information. It is certainly a lovely antique blanket chest in very nice condition. Antique American Grain Painted Miniature Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania Early
This sweet bit of Americana measures 20” tall x 17” wide x 9” deep and boast 4 molded drawers with dovetailed construction(front; square nail back) and thick hand chamfered drawer bottoms. The sides feature raised panels with compass corners and graceful cuts repeating the profile of the front skirt. It is primarily pine with tulip poplar back; some of the drawer bottoms are pine and others poplar and retains its original heavily distressed dark grain painted surface overall. The porcelain knobs on the top drawer are original; the rest are modern replacements. It has some“dog chews” I don’t know what else to call them) on the front corners and some general flaking of the paint. There is a missing piece of molding on the side. An antique miniature chest with wonderful dovetail joints. Footed. It sits on 4 legs. 19 th Century. There is paint on the bottom. Original paint. Lovely warm patina. There are hints of green paint on the outside. This is a beautiful primitive. I measure just over 17 ¼ inches tall by about 26 ¾ inches wide by just under 14 inches deep. A hard to find size. Weighs about 24 pounds. It looks like both hinges have been moved a time or two. There is an inlay patch on the lid near the keyhole. The key hole is quite worn. I’m not sure of the type of wood. The lock is off. There is part of the lock loose on the inside. The box inside may be called a keeper or keepsake or candle box. Retaining the original reddish stain. Does have age appropriate expected wear. Measures 38" long, 16" wide and 1" high and has a early hinged lift lid top. In colonial America, blanket chests were constructed of various species of lumber ranging from inexpensive pines used for"country" type furniture to more expensive hardwoods such as walnut, cherry, and imported mahogany. The latter were used for more formal pieces of furniture that only the very wealthy could afford. As early as 1660, craftsmen in Massachusetts and Connecticut were fashioning paneled and carved oak chests, constructed of wide stiles and rails. These had ... morefloating panels with elaborately carved intaglio decorations. Instead of a paneled top in the English fashion, the Colonial chest had a plain pine board top. This unadorned top surface was ideal for seating and did not need cushions thereby making it more functional. In their crude fashion, these chests were the counterpart of the elaborate cas, armoires, and caskets owned throughout Europe by wealthy families. Many households would not do without one of these blanket chests as few homes had a source of heat within the bedroom. On chilly nights it was convenient to merely go to the end of the bed and extract more bed covers to keep warm. WOW.When I saw this I was just blown away by it. First thing was the size. Most blanket chests are big. And bulky. This chest is a great size. It is 37" high x 35" wide x 15" deep. The 2nd thing was the condition. The condition is A1. Some very minor scratches and that's it. The 3rd thing that caught my attention was the quality. The design( a true copy of an 18th century blanket chest) and craftsmanship is top shelf. And THEN.the painting. It is signed, and I can't make it out, but whoever did it was really good. It was probably a commissioned piece. The print that will come with it( that was in the blanket chest) is of the Essex Merrimack suspension bridge, in Newburyport Ma. WOW! I mean W.O.W. FRESH from an incredible estate this past weekend. This OLD(avid collectors) estate was packed with EARLY AMERICAN items-furniture. Boxes, chests, maps, ect. I snatched this baby up! This early Pennsylvania chest is gorgeous-all hand made-dovetailed construction with square nails. BEAUTIFUL original paint! Signed several times in several places on the bottom-I can only make one out for sure-Amanda Batz. If you google her, you will find right away an Amanda Batz who was born in Pennsylvania on May 1st, 1836. I don't know if this was passed down to her or painted by her? There are other names and possibly dates which, with a little more time and effort, could probably be made out and someone could probably figure out when and for whom and possibly by whom this was made. American Painted Antique Blanket Chest Recessed Panels, Pennsylvania c. 1820-40
AMERICAN RECESSED PANEL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST Probably Lancaster or Montgomery County. Pennsylvania c. 1820-40 Item# 130110PZS26 This is an exceptional piece in untouched condition. The two board top is delightfully painted in a somewhat scrubbed brown on cream. Surrounded by an ogival molding affixed with a series of cut iron nails. It lifts on original steel hinges to reveal it's original untouched till and a spacious interior constructed using double-pinned tenon mortise construction with panels set into the mitered frame. The grain painted facade of the chest is highlighted with the recessed panels framed in cream molding, these with a delightful maroon wash that still allows the sharply ribbed grains to show through brilliantly. Identical to the front, the back of the chest is constructed with a recessed panel, the entire back with ... morea red painted wash. Resting over it's original ogee molded base, the case was crafted without feet, the underside remaining untouched and fully original. This is an absolute treasure for serious collectors of American Folk Art and period works from Pennsylvania. In untouched and very fine condition. This piece remains in an admirable state of preservation throughout. Measurements: 37 1/2" wide x 17 1/2" deep x 16 7/8" high Condition Report: Untouched worn original painted surface. Original untouched hardware(lock. Hinges, latch all original) no key available. String and eyehooks are probably later, though the eyehook on the lid is hand forged and possibly original. American Painted Antique Blanket Mule Chest over Drawer, 19th Century
Red Painted American Blanket Chest over Drawer Primarily Yellow Pine. 19th Century Item# 130010CPL26 This is a very attractive Painted American Blanket Chest over a single Drawer retaining an early grungy surface over earlier surfaces of the same color. It is a six-plank blanket chest. Crafted practically in a somewhat crude and certainly rural manner; the face and back are nailed into the sides of the case with square iron nails, this hidden behind half-round black painted molding outlining the facade of the case. The bottom board is nailed in even rows along the sides and along the back, beneath which a single drawer slides in and out of the case. The drawer construction matches that of the case, the joints half-lapped and nailed with iron rose heads, these resting over runners of the same[unidentified] hardwood nailed to the sides of the ... morecase with iron rose heads. The single plank top lifts over original cotter pin hinges supplemented by modern hinges for strength, these modern hinges actually the second set of hinges placed on the case to supplement the cotter pins. The result is a smooth operating top, lifting easily to reveal a large storage area and original steel lock(no key) The cleats flanking the case are nailed to the underside of the lid with a series of even rose heads. All of the brasses are added for effect, the original case having only wooden knobs on the lower drawer at some point before it was painted. The case terminates over boot-jack feet. For anyone passionate about country-style American Painted antiques. This is a beautiful little piece that is not only rather eye-catching, but also quite practical. With a well worn and heavily patinated surface testifying to years of use and enjoyment, the chest remains young in terms of strength and possible length of life if well cared for. This is a nice antique American New York or Massachusetts early 19th century Federal chest of drawers. I'm leaning more towards Massachusetts because the estate it came from collected earl American Massachusetts furniture as well as antique Massachusetts artwork. In pretty good shape considering it's age and retains a very old possibly original finish. It does have some imperfections throughout which is to be expected as it is nearing 200 years old with the worst being the cracks to the the top and one side but overall very nice shape and it comes exactly as shown. I believe the handles and hardware to be original with the exception of the 2nd drawer keyhole being replaced and it has some holes by the keyholes because someone had covered over the original hardware with Eastlake hardware which I removed to find the originals underneath ... moreas well as it having some paint flakes to the top of the carvings on the side. Antique American Leather over Wood Society Trunk - Late 1800s
Offered- An outstanding Leather over Wood Society Trunk. The trunk is in extremely good condition- with just a couple of minor flaws. The trunk measures 18 inches across- 10 inches wide- and stands 11 1/2 inches tall. Trunks of this nature were widely used during the Victorian era- to hold Society Hats and other paraphernalia associated with that particular Society. This trunk is marked: photo#10) G.O. Gordon Lodi. Wis. Robert Macoy(Cross- 3- Period) I do not know which Society the Cross and 3 represent. The interior of the trunk is Cedar Wood. There is a form to hold the Society Hat- and a drop down inner lid to hold other accessories. There are a couple of cracks in the Cedar lining. There is a label on the inner lid that reads: The M. C. Lilly Company Manufacturers of Military and Society Goods Columbus. Ohio There is also a silver colored ... moreplaque over the lock with the above manufacture noted. The leather on this trunk is a beautiful Amber/Medium Brown color- with a darker brown outline. The stitching is perfect and all of the rivets are 100% intact. There are very heavy duty Black Metal Hinges with a patent date of 1866. The leather is in very good condition- as the photos reflect- with scuffing and/or scraping commensurate with age. The silver colored lock is fully intact however I do not have the key. The lock is marked: Pat. April 1877(Over 2 Stars) The leather handle is perfect. As is the case with trunks of this nature- the straps that connect to the buckles on the front are used and very fragile. They are intact but do have breaks. I have taped the backs for stability. Also- the left front leather loop that holds the top leather strap in place is missing- please see Photo#9. This is a very nice item- I have a couple of these trunks in my personal collection and they are great for storage- perfect for fragile Christmas Decoration. This early trunk was just dug out from a great local estate. This one has early paper labels on it. The Paris one as pic shows is the Gran Hotel Paris. This label is on the front as pic shows. On the top is an American Railway Express sticker from Littleton. N.H. There are actually a few of those labels on outside as pics show. Also on the outside is a larger Bogota sticker. Inside top cover is an old label mostly missing. All there is to make out is F S.Furers of.5 year.the letters TEE. And under that is the word solid. Tray is complete with a lift up lid on each side. The handles are gone and over time someone put rope handles on. It measures 28" wide X 18" deep X 13" tall. All straps are there and complete. This trunk is in solid condition but can use a cleaning. Retaining originality in every aspect of the facade and structure- most importantly, the delightful scrolled front feet are untouched and entirely original to the case. The grain painted surface is a kaleidoscope of chaotic but nearly symmetrical pigment, mostly blends of ochre, the resulting effect highly understated, only fully developing in the eye after looking upon the surfaces for a period of time. It is a deeply patinated surface, the whole full of character and craquelure amidst the oxidized chips, dings and abrasions. Most of the chest is crafted of large planks of Yellow Pine, ... morethese dovetailed along the sides and back. The till lid is Yellow Poplar and the feet are undetermined. The back feet are just as magnetic as the front, the form in an overall taper embellished by scratch-beading in the swell and relieved by swelling rings over the ball toes. They were crafted with a slight lift over the front feet, giving the entire chest the slightest"downward" slant- the effect of this is rather ingenious, relieving the squareness of the profile by giving a more full view of the top. The chest measures 22 1/4" Long x 10 5/8" High x 13 3/4" Deep. It is heavily trimmed with shale tooth ivory. The wood chest looks to be oak. The bottom looks to be maple. There are 3 brass plates on the top. The outer 2 have latitude and longitude lines with some continents depicted. The middle rectangular plate is inscribed'Property Captain F. AMERICAN GREEN PAINTED PINE BLANKET CHEST. PENNSYLVANIA 19th Century with Dovetailed Feet Signed on bottom"Jonas Cros.y" and inscribed in lid"Amelia Saltsmon" Item# 1409AIU01P This is a wonderful early 19th Century painted blanket chest from Southeastern Pennsylvania. The surface dry and worn with an early green paint. The surface is plain and undisturbed with embellishment, the whole being deeply oxidized and full of charming wear. The construction is standard and uncomplicated, the exterior of the case crafted of six broad planks of Eastern White Pine, the sides and bottom joined with exposed dovetail construction. The base is affixed with a series of small pegs and the feet are delicate little brackets with exposed dovetailing to the front and sides. Likewise, the molding around the top is affixed with pegs set at regular ... moreintervals, the lid lifting on original wrought iron strap hinges affixed with mostly original screws. The original steel lock and catch survive in the case, though no key is available. The till is somewhat unique, the outer edge lifting in grooves on either side to reveal a compartment below the till- the lifting wall is not unusual, but this usually reveals drawers instead of this tidy compartment. The bottom of the case is inscribed in a now faded ink"Jonas Cros.y" the J and the C both being quite accomplished with extensive swirling. This form is easily incorporated into modern decor in so many ways. Including as a coffee table, an entertainment stand beneath a flat screen, while also working wonderfully in front of a period bed as it was intended. It is a striking piece that will certainly be cherished in your home for a lifetime. American Federal Painted Antique Blanket Chest, Pennsylvania, Early 19th Century
FINE AMERICAN FEDERAL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST ON FLARED FRENCH FEET Pennsylvania. C. Second Quarter of the 19th Century Item# 410SLU18 A very striking use of the flared foot in the blanket chest. The taste for Neoclassical austerity quickly translated into even the most functional of rural furnishings in the second quarter of the nineteenth century. These developments are clear in the angular reeded molding around the base, the softened scrolling of the returns around the feet and the simple escutcheon employed at the lock. Beyond these design changes, the structure of the chest remains unchanged from the late eighteenth-century form- the projecting molding around the top is affixed on a tongue-in-groove with an even series of wooden pins driven into the top, this raising on it's original rectangular cast iron hinges. The case leaves all ... moredovetailing along the front, sides and back exposed- the dovetails were considered a mark of excellent craftsmanship and were a proud part of the form, something to be displayed and considered by the customer of the day. The dovetailing continues in the back of the case through the rear foot supports, these affixed with large and carefully cut dovetails to the facings, all feet also supported with the typical bevelled horizontal blocking and large vertical interior blocks(two replaced, one absent, one original) Retaining it's original burgundy red painted surface. This chest is an absolute treasure of a find- the state of preservation throughout is remarkable with only the most minor of touch ups, the whole being free of any restoration after two hundred years of use. It was clearly cherished by it's owners. The bottom of the interior has a large scrolled inscription that is illegible to us, a more tidy but still illegible inscription beside the lock(not pictured) For any serious collector of Americana. A 19th century dovetailed grain painted blanket chest with interior till box. It measures approximately 24.5" tall. 43-7/8" wide, and 21.75" deep. There is wear and tear commensurate with age and use- a few dings and scratches and some paint loss, particularly on the lid(please see photos) The till box and the lock are intact(we do not have the key) We believe it dates to the mid to late 19th century. Antique American Pine wood blanket chest trunk, primitive country 1800-1899
This blanket chest has been in my family for 50 years. It is an early primitive pine piece with lots of storage inside. It looks like it may have been stained red originally. Most of the color had faded. In very good condition and a real charmer. There are 3 old black burn rings on the top as seen in the last photo. The measurements are length 42"x width 18.5" x 20" height. A great size for a coffee table or end table.

American Federal Salmon Paint Decorated Antique Blanket Chest. Pennsylvania Lancaster or Chester Counties Circa 1800-1820 Screaming decoration! Black squiggles undulating from the centre terminating at the uppermost corners forming almost a ellipsis. Original feet! Even the feet are decorated. All pine dovetailed case. With a interior till. Great surface. About 100 years ago. Someone put a light cost of shellac over the entire surface to protect the paint. Aside from the early 20th century shellac coat. This chest is in 100% original condition! Minor dings and scratches. Consistent with age and wear/use. Size: 49 1/2" wide. By 21 3/4" deep, 22 3/4" tall.
