But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. Antique Trunk Embossed Tin Orig Tray & Interior In VGC Grand Restoration

For sale today is a beautifully restored flat top trunk with embossed tin in a fine wire mesh pattern. A very good original interior and the original tray. I did not find a patent date on the trunk and based on 40 plus years of restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880's to 1890's which makes this neat old flat top as much as 124 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of clear, original slats, four original metal skids. The three original hinges are HD, fancy,tight and the lid closes well. There are 19 polished pieces of original hardware. The Corbin center lock is polished and there is no key. The mechanical ... morelatches are polished, HD, fancy, tight and work well. The original interior and tray are in very good condition for a trunk of this age The metal/tin is in VGC. The lid stay is original. The lid lifters are built into the mechanical latches. There are 9 solid oak slats in a golden oak color. New black leather handles were installed with new end caps. Up for consideration is a nice humpback embossed steamer trunk with a lift out tray. It has been hand painted to look original. All hardware and wood has been cleaned well then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. The inside has been tastfully recovered. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN CHILDS 14x10 DOLL CLOTHES DOME TOP WOOD TRUNK COMPLETE w TRAY
Please read the item description and review the photos before bidding. This is an antique. Victorian period, child's wood dome top doll trunk. The doll trunk was acquired from the estate of a doll collector and it is in good clean, antique condition. The lid has metal brackets, trim and latches. The exterior of the trunk is covered with a faux wood and metal trim pattern paper. The interior and the tray are covered in a yellow floral pattern paper. A lid on the tray compartment has a picture of a Victorian woman. The tray has an open compartment. Too(no nail holes or other indication that there was ever a lid on this side) The trunk is 14" long x 8" wide x 10" tall. The paper cover on the exterior has darkened with age and there are some cracks and chips in the paper cover. The burlap straps on the tray are missing. Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest, Straps&Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Interior Tray We are selling a nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. This one has some typical older nicks and dings in various places. These character marks are present on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. There were some small holes in the wood where either knots were missing or something, and we did fill these holes in. There were several on the front and several on the back, ... morenot on the top or on the sides. These boards were free of any holes. This particular trunk doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood. Usually these trunks do, but this one is good. There is no lock mechanism, although there is a brass square lock plate at the front. The top part of the lock that swings down into the lock plate appears to be original, but there is no engagement mechanism behind this brass lock plate which someone may have put on this trunk some time ago. The lock plate is the only brass on this trunk. We have brush painted the remaining metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The front two latches are cast iron and they do work ok since the springs are still there. A nice pair of leather straps with roller buckles has been installed onto this trunk. In addition to the front latches, they help secure the top to it's base when buckled. They are functional, not just for show. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. Up for consideration is Antique"Jenny Lind" old Stage Coach Traveling Trunk or Steam Trunk. It has the inner tray. This item is in original aged condition at present-These trunks look simply beautiful when restored and polished up. Item is structurally sound and made of oak and pine covered with a leather exterior with steel bands going around it. It has brass buttons and a old iron lock face on the front. The leather handles are missing on the ends and the lock is non-operational. And without a key. When we found this item it was full of old personal items. Bonnets and papers. The bottom was lined with the paper shown in the picture. It was published in Jackson Ohio in 1894. This trunk has been in my family for many years. And it needs a new home to become another family's heirloom It is a National Vulcanized trunk made of mixed materials. It is very good solid condition but does have age related wear. It has been in a closet since the 1950's after it went to South America. It measures 32" long x 22" deep x 13.5" high. The inside has a tray and is good solid condition. The original handles are on each end and it has two original keys. The bottom is rust free. It is clean, and comes from a smoke free estate home. A very beautiful antique humpback trunk hand painted black and gold on the outside and white on the inside. A truly unique trunk! Has original illustration on the inside of the lid of a woman. Very cool! Whoever painted this did a very fine job! Is missing leather handles on each side. Which is typical of trunks this old. The trunk measures 30in wide x 2ft tall x 17in deep. For sale is a very large(and heavy) old steamer trunk. It has a flat top and the outside is covered in canvas and oak with a bottom strip of steel on the sides. It features ornate corner pieces. Solid hinges in good working order, 2 working latches, and a center hasp-type lock(unfortunately, no key) There is some of the original label still visible on the top and the side. At some point in its past it has had a protective coating(poly? applied to the exterior. The inside of the trunk is unfinished wood in good condition. The top removable tray is solid with most of its original paper covering still in place. The side leather handles have long rotted away. There are 4 bottom castors. Nice Refinished Clinton Brand Flat Top Wall Trunk With Manufacturer's Label. Working Lock& Key, And Interior Tray Here is a very unique refinished patent dated and factory labeled Clinton Wall Trunk. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 33 1/4 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This trunk is named a wall trunk since it can be put right up against the wall and the lid can be lifted up without hitting the wall since very little space is needed for it to open properly. Most trunks need to be about three or four inches away from the wall for the lid to be opened. Look at the pictures and we have shown the signed and patent dated hinges. It is signed, Clinton Wall Trunk Mfg Co Clinton Mass Patented Feb 25 1890" We detailed these embossed numbers ... moreand letters with black paint to make them more legible. We are calling this a flat top steamer trunk, although there is a very slight factory arch to the top, noticeable in the side view picture. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and give it a nice appearance. The wood is in it's natural color which is a tannish brown color. There are a couple of typical stress cracks in the wood. Most all of the trunks that we refinish have one or more stress cracks. The front latches are original and work ok since the springs are in place. We have given this trunk a nice older sturdy working lock, signed"Yale" It comes with the proper key so you can lock your personal belongings away from others if you choose to do so. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a nice tray for the interior. It rests at the top edge. ANTIQUE Leather Trunk-Orig Fabric Lining+Tray w SOLID Leather~Went Paris to NY
ANTIQUE I just returned from a weekend antique shop fest. We saw one like this in every way but the color of that one was very faded. They were asking $850.00 and at auction we saw one sold with NO interior finish or tray. No hardware and a funky odor( LOL) sell for $445.00 Gorgeous leather steamer trunk. This has clean working brass latches. 2 original leather straps on the ends and 1 handle. Exterior wooden strapping and leather bumpers on the corners. Remarkable beautiful original fabric lined interior with a lift out tray and fabric tie downs. What we assume is the maker tag is mostly worn away. But we show it in case you can ID it from the scrap remaining. There are a couple other applied tags. We can see this traveled Paris to NY via Fast French Line Steamers. Some other words are on this label but we cannot make them out. This label ... moreappears on the trunk in 2 other places, discrete and aged. There is another label with Cie Gle Transatlantic on it. Nothing to pinpoint year or ownership. The ends of the trunk have a lovely ink tattoo with a 3” A and P on them, my guess is that was the owners initials. This is 22”x38”x13” plus a hair on each increment to allow for the 3D texture of the brass hardware. The bolts are not flush to the leather. They are raised and domed. Inside has a beautiful wine+ blue colored Iris floral pattern. Tray is about 4” deep and lifts out completely. NO ODOR! No fade. I do note a bit of wear and slight tear on the underside of this tray. Nothing at all ugly or something you see unless the tray is turned over( pic 10) Tray sides have a handle on each end and 2 strap tie downs. Exterior condition is amazingly clean and solid. Nothing broken. Gouged or stained. Certainly some travel signs, but they add to the charm and again there is nothing ugly looking what so ever. We see 2 very mild leather splits, but they are still very firmly in place. This weighs about 30# before packing. Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Angle Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key&Tray
Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Wall Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area. And Interior Tray Here is a very unusual fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. It is unusual in which the top and back and front slat boards are angled at about 45 degrees. We have only had about four of these over the past thirteen years to refinish and that would be out of around 1500 trunks. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are some ... moretypical older distress marks on the wood. These character marks include older nicks and dings. Mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards, and there are a couple of stress cracks. The majority of all trunks that we refinish have these type of markings. This great trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Yale& Towne Mfg Co Stamford Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. This trunk maker used a very nice amount of nice hardware on this trunk. A lot of it has embossed patterns to the metal. The front latches are original and they have a big number"3" at the top of them which we have highlighted in black paint. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. The trunk maker also did a good job of running vertical and horizontal outer slat boards on this trunk, especially on the sides. It is not very often that you have two vertical slat boards and a horizontal slat board running on the sides of the trunk. Anyhow, it gives it a nice, unique appearance. The side handles have been replaced with sturdy Amish made black leather stitched straps.

Victorian Steamer Trunk 34 x 22.5 H x 19 This is a versatile and attractive true antique from the late 19th century. A medium-sized Victorian steamer trunk made of wood, trimmed with tin and steel hardware, and featuring a flat lid. It’s 34 inches wide and 22.5 inches tall– perfect for a coffee table, lamp table, or bedroom storage. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and around all four sides. The interior has been completely cleaned and refinished with a reproduction Victorian lithograph inside the lid. The hinges are tight and the lid fits securely when closed. Yet opens easily. The hasp on the right side does not lock, but does not compromise the closed lid. Small Antique Doll Trunk Original Paper and Tray Clean & Sturdy
Small flat top doll trunk. Covered with paper in a brown and black wood grain pattern and accented with red strips along the edges. The basic trunk is made of wood and still very sturdy, however the paper covering on the outside shows some wear along the edges, but the paper itself is still very well attached. It has a lock on the front but no key for it. One of the leather handles is broken. The 2 hinges on the back are in very good shape. This little trunk still has it original tray, covered with paper in a beige solid color with some minor wear as well but it is clean and does not have an offensive smell. It measures 10" across the front, 5.5" deep and 4.5" high. We are calling it a flat top although there is a very slight factory arch. These are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and give it a nice appearance. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some typicl distress marks or character marks. These include older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. ANTIQUE 1800s DOLL MINIATURE ARCH TOP HUMPBACK TRAVEL TRUNK CHEST BOX w/ TRAY
Here's a Very Old. Antique Miniature Arch Top Trunk for Dolls. Please, see all the pics as they are an important part of the description. This is from the 1800s and from what I can gather, through a little research, it's probably from the 1850s to 1870s but, I'm not positive.you girls who collect these things will know by looking at it, immediately. It Measures 14" Long X 8 1/8" Front to Back X 9" Tall. Both the Trunk and the Tray are structurally sound with no loose joints or corner wiggling or racking.it's firm all around. The Latch is Original, I believe but the rear hinges look to be of a later date. The Original painted cotton cloth covering(over the wood) which is what they used back then(much the same as many full-sized trunks from back then) is torn and/or missing in several areas. I suppose this can ... morebe restored if so desired. There are two knot holes in one end of the trunk. These were not drilled by anybody.they are actual natural holes where the knots fell out a long time ago. The Original Interior Paper covering is well worn. There is no key and was lost probably a very long time ago. One of the Leather Handles is torn off but I have left it in the tray for you. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the metal we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes ... morethe wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. The latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The latches have the patent date of July 9, 1872. The lid of this particular trunk also has the original manufacturer label in great condition. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. We have also made a tray to fit the inside of this trunk so you have two levels of storage. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look along with painting the metal black. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. Large Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Manufacturer's Tag. Straps& Buckles, and Original Interior Divided Tray Here we are offering a very large refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is signed with the brass manufacturer's tag. It says. Overland Trunk" on the brass tag and we have shown a c lose up picture of this brass manufacturer's tag. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 41 inches. From floor to top is 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 22 1/2 inches. This is one of the largest trunks we have refinished this year, and it is a true flat top with no factory arch. This trunk is made up of the original brown laminate or composition exterior with the oak outer slat boards. The exterior has been given three coats of polyurethane by Minwax ... moreto preserve and protect the exterior. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass, except for the manufacturer's tag, and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk originally had a pair of leather straps which have eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base like the front latches do. The front latches are original and do work properly since the springs are intact. The edge banding and two bands running up the front and across the top are not metal. They are a pressed composition and we have left them in their brown color. This trunk comes with the original lock. It appears to be all intact. We were not able to match up a key. If you do match up a key, it does appear that this lock will work. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is very. Very rare. This is the first one we have ever found that is made of beautiful wormy chestnut wood. It is a very nice, clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of the wormy chestnut wood with chestnut slats also. ... moreOnce we removed the metal we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil as a finish. After much research we have found that by using tung oil, not only does it not leave such a strong odor as other finishes, but it also penetrates the wood preventing the wood from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. There is also a lock with two keys. You will see the original lid stay to help keep the lid open. This trunk also has a lot of fancy metal hardware on it. The metal has also been repainted by hand in black and gold. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. We have also refinished the original tray for the inside to have two levels to store your items in. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new finished look. Also on the bottom you will find the original casters that work well to move the trunk around. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. Called a wall trunk because it opens straight up- you don't have to move it away from a wall to open it up. Dated 1891 on some of the hardware. Measures 24" tall; 36" long and 20 1/2" front to back. Wood and metal totally refinished and coated with poly for easy cleaning. Has new wallpaper interior; tray was stripped of paper and left bare. I won't call it totally flat but close with just a slight curve. Variations in wood and metal color- it is 123 years old after all- makes it look more interesting anyway. Two are on the brass center lock of March 1869 and April 1877 One on the latches of September 1880 which makes this neat old flat top as much as 134 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of clear, three original slats, four original metal wheels and the trunk rolls easily. The two original hinges are HD, tight and the lid closes well. There are 15 plus polished pieces of original hardware. The center lock is polished, has a brass keyhole and there is no key. Cute small size travel trunk from the late 1800's thru the turn of the century measuring approx. 20-1/2" wide x 13-3/4" x 15" high. Weighing 15.2 pounds as you see it here this little trunk has the original green canvas covering with clean wood slat contruction. The interior has the original lift out tray with its aged paper! The bottom of the trunk is solid wood. The body is wood under the canvas so you could refinish it to a beautiful pine color if you wanted a project. The ends have the metal bumpers to protect the corners a sign of a good trunk. The bottom is solid with NO rot. The top of the lid has an aged crack in the wood. This was probably a childs travel trunk or perhaps a woman's travel chest for her dainties. The interior lift out tray has one section that is covered. Antique Embossed Tin Ladies Dome Top Steamer Trunk French Country with Tray
A sweet Victorian style antique dome top steamer trunk from approximately the late 1800's. It measures approximately 31" long X 16 1/2" wide x 24" high at the highest point near the center. It is covered with a wide strip of black tin on the sides and a center strip of embossed tin with a red floral design. The tin is in nice condition. It needs some cleaning, there's some surface rust but there is no rust through(no holes in the tin) It has beautiful bent hardwood slats holding the tin securely to the lid and all are held in place with brass tacks and medallions. The trunk comes complete with its original tray which has one covered compartment. On the inside of the lid and on the cover of the compartment you'll find chromolithographs, both are women. Most folks like to remove all of the paper inside, sand down the interior and then give it a coat of sealant which eliminates any lingering odors. Others like to line them with cedar. whichever your preference this old gal will surely be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home. I currently have a flat top trunk listed that could be this trunk's sister- it has the same red embossed tin(but more of it) and the chromolithographs feature two children, a boy and a girl. This trunk has dings. Dents, scrapes and other signs of heavy use which you'd expect to see in an antique travel trunk that had been handled as much as these were over the last 100+ years. Up for consideration is a beautiful Flat Top Trunk with wood lift out tray. It has a working lock but no key. New leather handles were put on. Vintage / Antique 1800's STEAMER CHEST TRUNK XCLNT COND:TRAY, WORKING LOCK & KEY
This 1800's clean steamer trunk is in(my assessment) is in Excellent Original Condition. INTERIOR: The trunk is made of solid wood. The interior is fully lined with a paper liner. The paper is a striped pattern. I have included a close up photograph of the lined paper. I consider the quality to be excellent. I can provide additional close up photographs as requested. EXTERIOR: Dimensions: 39" L x 24.25" W X 22.24" H The sides are a brown metal with wooden slats and really nice brass with the brass round accents. The leather handles on each end are in excellent condition. There are two latches also in excellent condition in addition to the central lock with key. The leather straps around the trunk could be refurbished. RIght now the are excellent on the top. But note they are torn and not able to fasten. I can provide close-up ... morephotographs as needed, just ask me. I was only able to load 12 pictures here. LOCK& KEY: I have the key which works to unlock the lock. I have included a photograph of the key.There is slight bend in the metal on the lock so you do need to jiggle it to open. The bottom line though is. The trunk locks and unlocks with the key. I like the key because of the heart shape. TRAY: It has the original tray and the tray has the original top. Both tray and top are lined with the same paper as the trunk. The removable tray sits in the top portion of the trunk. In the photographs below I have included a photograph with the tray outside of the box on the carpet with the top on. I have also included photographs of the tray inside to box. One of the photographs is of the tray inside the box with the top folded over so that you can see half of the tray's contents. The other photograph is of the tray inside the box with the top removed. Measuring approx. 32-1/4" wide x 18-3/4" x 20-3/4" tall. The lid is supported by a metal corner bracket that keeps the lid up nicely when the trunk is open. The wooden tray has the original metal finger lifts on each side so you can easily lift the tray out of the trunk. The inside floor of the trunk is wood but underneath the trunk is metal with the original metal rollers that act as little feet and move the trunk along easily. This piece has a lot of character I have seen people put wallpaper inside these trunks to match their room. Leave it clean wood or paper it your choice. With the holiday season soon approaching what a wonderful gift idea it would be to provide that loved one with an antique trunk. This Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk comes with Working Lock. Tray, original picture and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then took off the canvas to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, ... morewe sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has the original lid stay to help keep it open. You will also see that we were able to apply an original picture on the inside of the lid that came from another trunk that we have used for parts. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. As in trunks of this style and age.We have applied two straps on the front. Steamer trunks in that era used the straps to help keep the lid securely sealed if needed, especially when traveling. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. This trunk also comes with a tray made as a replica of the original.
