All of the leather is original. It has the original Brass Lock with a star pattern. The key is included and the trunk does lock. The trunk automically locks when you close the lid. If the key is not present. The key must be in the lock and turned to the unlocked position to open the trunk. Measures approximately 30" Wide(without the side straps) by 17" Deep by 15" High. Stained a Medium Brown- Base is made from Pine with Oak Slats. It does have a crack on the top. But to me, this just adds to its appeal. Other than a few very minor scratches. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side ... morelocking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. The originally outside canvas covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The lock does not have a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has the original tray. This trunk 32" wide X 25" high X 19" deep. It has an unusual piece of embossed metal on top. The cost of packing. Antique Steamer Trunk* Antique Steamer Trunk measures 32 x 18.5 x 12.5; made of wood covered with canvas. Inside there is a shelf with separate compartment that lifts out. Attached to the inside of the lid there is an envelope style compartment. There is a lock and two latches. The lock does not have a key so we use the latches to secure the truck closed. The fitting right above the lock is missing two of it’s four nails so it loose. There are no leather handles on the trunk. This trunk is in fairly good overall condition. I am not positive as to when this was made but the hardware is classic late 1800s hardware that i commonly see on a trunk like this. The insert here is really what stood out to me it is in very good condition. In fact probably the best trunk insert I have ever seen that was in original condition and not restored. The left side of the trunk on the exterior near the top rim there is a dent with a small hole where something hit the trunk it looks like. The interior has a few spots where the paper is starting to come off or are chipped and the ledges that the insert sets on is starting to separate from the ... moresides but nothing major and not loose. The trunk has I believe it's original owners name shown under the top and on the top of insert as shown in photos. This would make a great coffee table. Fabulous Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps,Key, & Tray
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is one of the nicest. Fanciest trunks that we have refinished so far this year. This flat top steamer trunk should date back to the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. This trunk maker did a nice job of running lots of slat boards and metal banding on this trunk. This beautiful trunk consists of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. The wood has lots of older character marks or distress marks which have accumulated mostly onto the outer slat boards. There are also some typical stress cracks in the base wood, although the trunk is still sturdy. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have older distress marks and stress cracks. Here are the ... moretrunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. A unique feature on this trunk that you don't often find are the five slat boards running across the top. Most trunks have three or four, but not very often d you get five. It also has the three metal bands running up the front and across the top, and you usually don't have that many bands of metal on most trunks. Due to the slat boards and metal banding, it gives this beautiful trunk sixteen wooden sections to the top and sixteen wooden sections at the front of the trunk also. This beautiful trunk comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this fancy trunk are not brass. Since they are not brass, we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker used a lot of nice hardware when making this trunk. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and Tray My husband and I have refinished over 100 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished flat top steamer t runk. The particular d iminsions for this are 30 1/4" length. 18 1/2" width and 20 1/2" heig ht. We refinished this particular trunk by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. A fter t his. We applied 2 layers of tung oil to the trunk and tr ay. After lots of research on rest oration. We have found that it is better to finish old wood ... morewith tung oil as it helps preserve the wood from drying and cracking from the inside out. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made brow n leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Th is trunk also ha s the two original latches newly painted and working properly.Attached to the lid of this trunk is the original stay so it will remain opened when wanted. Included with this trunk is the original tray. Newly sanded and finished. Working the way down to the b ottom there are 4 original metal casters that are securely in p lace and working properly. Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. The hardware is gorgeous. Victorian style, trunk style is common or the trunks produced in the late 1800's, 1880's. Large dome. Camel back style. Not slightly domed like some. Very likely belonging to someone from an upper class, usually camel back trunks were bought by people from higher classes, they were more expensive and people bought them b/c they were more beautiful, and b/c they would be placed on the top when they traveled. The originally outside paper covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. The metal covering. Top and front, were sanded, primed and painted with lime green paint and then stain applied to give it an aged look. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. Antique 1886 Pressed tin croc/alligator trunk w/insert tray in very good cond.
Truly beautiful antique 1886(marked) trunk with pressed tin made to look like alligator or crocodile. That is so good that it fooled me when I bought it out of an estate in Hartford, CT last month. Did not get to open it until I got home and then I got the best surprise.The interior insert drawer is in fabulous condition but does have wear to the edges! I have done nothing to this trunk but clean the exterior and put two layers of satin spray laquer on it to protect it. There was only light rust that came off easily, the interior is completely untouched. There are tiny wheels inset to the bottom so you can move it around easily. The interior hinges that keep the top from falling all the way back when opened need to be reattached and there are no leather handles. There is a crack across the inside of the inner wood decoration as seen in the ... morepics, otherwise not much expected age wear. Measures 26 inches long, 16 wide and 14 high with curved top sides. There is a key but I do not know if it is original, although it does work. Please see all pics, enlarge and ask any questions before bidding. Technically, this is a hat or bonnet trunk, but many refer to them as half trunks as well. My wife actually purchased this some years back and it has been in my collection, but now it's time to make room for a"larger model" This trunk is actually a little smaller than a true"half" trunk, but it has all the hardware and adornments of the larger fancy dome tops. Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps and Interior Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps and Buckles and Interior Tray Here is a real primitive refinished steamer trunk or antique chest from the 1800's. This one is made up of pine base wood with poplar outer slat boards. It is probably from the Civil War era and has the original lock. The lock is there. But we could not find a key that works with it. So we are selling it in"As Is" condition as far as the lock goes. The trunk has the following dimension s: from left to right across the front is 27 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 12 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in the wood along with some stress cracks. A small ... morepiece of one of the top outer slat boards has been chipped away, probably many years ago. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These will secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. There were no front latches on this trunk. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. All of our leather products for these trunks are obtained from an Amish man near our home in Pennsylvania. You might want to use this trunk to store your Civil War items, coins, or other personal valuables inside. Our trunks have been used to display teddy bear and doll collections. Going to the inside, we have made a nice tray for the interior. The interior tray and interior wood have been given two coats of polyurethane. The interior wood is rough cut boards with the saw blade marks still on them. A nice picture of a Victorian girl posing has been added to the underside of the top. Going underneath the trunk to the exterior bottom, it is in decent shape and we have finished the bottom with a coat of polyurethane to make the trunk overall cleaner. Rare Antique Maier Oak Slat Beveled Top Trunk, Vintage, Restored, Tray & Key!
Here is the trunk for your collection! This beautiful rare trunk was made by Martin Maier& Company of Detroit from the 1885 to 1895 period. Based on the actual dates of manufacture of the hardware. If you see a trunk with this type latch it was not made in the 1870's as many other sellers state. Because they were patented in 1882 and used into the late 1890's. I do extensive trunk research. Size: 30" wide. 22 1/2" tall, 20" front to back. A fabulous rare size, great for many uses! Very few Martin Maier slat trunks are found and even fewer flat tops with the beveled corners such as this one. This style was advertised in one of their catalogs as a"Rustic" trunk covered entirely with hardwood slats. Superior quality and based on the Excelsior trunk patent of 1868. Which most people now call Oak Slat Trunks ... moreor Victorian slat trunks. Maier established his trunk company in 1865 after serving in the Civil War. This special trunk is not common in any way! Martin Maier& Co developed their distinctive narrow slat alternating color style trunks and they are very hard to find in such good condition. These are made of hardwood strips of oak or elm and another darker wood, over an all wood body. These trunks were made to be impressive and were more expensive to make than the ordinary metal, leather, or canvas covered trunks. That's probably why they are so rare today. The special corner"lid stay" hinges are marked Pat'd April 1879 and were patented by Martin Maier too! The front catches were patented in 1882. All of the trunk's hardware is in good condition and the wood has no breaks or missing wood. No sand blasting, sanding, or polyurethane coating has been done on this trunk exterior as some other restorers do. The trunk has a very smooth finish, which is hand rubbed tung oil, the finest antique furniture finish. The interior is also beautiful with a large Victorian chromolithograph, and the Maier label! This is a very old antique steamer trunk with tray and with the original paper lithographs affixed to the inside of the dome lid. The large lithograph in the center shows an old man and woman sitting having tea with the old man appearing to be threading a needle. The smaller round lithos on each side of the paper shows a man carrying a trunk on his back and shoulders while a woman in the background appears to drop her luggage. The artists signature on the large litho is lower left and is very hard to read but may read"Lexington" The smaller round lithos do not appear to be signed. The paper does show tears. Refinished Monitor Top Waterfall Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With 2 Locks &Tray
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Monitor Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray Here we have finished a lovely. Fancy monitor top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 39 inches. From floor to top is 25 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 22 1/2 inches. This beautiful monitor top gets it's name from the late 1800's USS Monitor warship. It was a metal clad frigot that must have had this type of shape to it. Anyhow. This trunk has the waterfall or Deco style edge at the top. It is really neat how the trunk maker made the slat boards bend down around the edges. It is a pretty steep bend and it is incredible how they can make the boards conform to it back then. This beautiful trunk consists of rough cut pine and oak base wood with ... moreoak or ash outer slat boards. A lot of the boards are not planed down, they are straight off the saw mill and have the saw blade markings on them. If you look at the close up picture of the top, there are some boards on the top that are wormwood in which there are little holes here and there on the boards. You may seem some in the picture. A lot of antique collectors like to find furniture that has this type of wood on them. The wood has been prepared and finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect the wood and give it a nice appearance. This trunk comes with a lot of fancy metal hardware and a very nice feature are the factory double locks which do work and are signed. They are signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work both of these locks, so you can store your items under lock and key away from others if you want to do so. The center latch is also original and does work properly since the springs in intact. These monitor tops only come about for us to refinish in a ratio of about 80 to 1 in which we only get about 2 or so a year to do. Rare Antique Gold Rush Stagecoach Trunk, 1860's, tray, key, Restored and Lined
A beautiful and rare stagecoach or"gold rush" style American trunk made from about the mid 1860's to 1870. It measures 31 1/2 inches wide. 20 inches tall, 18 inches deep. Made of thick pine with metal banding and hardwood slats, attached with dozens of large brass buttons! A fabulous and impressive looking trunk which is very hard to find with six bands and in such great condition. The original lock is complete with the fancy brass cover and working key. The handles are the original style, sliding arrow design, attached with the original holders and brass buttons. A new all wood tray was made which makes the trunk much more useful inside. It was thoroughly cleaned out and relined with nice quality fabric in blue and off-white colors. I preserved the original large lithographed picture in the lid, which shows a lady on horseback ... moreand her dog! The bottom is in great condition and has the original metal rollers. A nice high rounded top which allows for more storage inside and gives it a great look. A real piece of American history and very useful in the home. Up for auction is a remarkable refinished antique steamer trunk circa 1890-1895 in fabulous condition. The trunk comes with its original tray which has been fitted with a new wood bottom. The interior of the trunk has been completely cleaned of its old coverings. The wood sanded, stained and sealed with 3 coats of sealer. The old musty smell is gone replaced with a new finish scent that will disappear over time. The sealer was water based so not nearly the odor is left inside. All the metal on the trunk has undergone a three part process to bring back luster but still retain the antique character of the piece. The newly exposed wood exterior of the trunk has been sanded, stained and sealed with multiple coats(i lost count) of a high grade oil based sealer which resulted in a furniture like finish which will stand up,with care, for many years. ... moreNew premium grade leather handles were installed and end caps re-installed just as the original were with with nails turned back into the wood. The bottom of the trunk was cleaned, a rust inhibitor applied to the metal, then primed and everything sealed. The lock on this trunk is original. It is an Excelsior lock made in Newark NJ and the key locks it with a nice click. This trunk was originally sold by the Charles William Stores which was a mail order house located in New York City. This company was in operation before being bought out from 1860 to sometime in the 1920's. The original metal tag identifying the store remains on the trunk. On the tag is a registration number identifying the owner and states if the trunk is separated from the owner, contact(write in those days) the store and the name of the owner will be known. Quite unique for the day. This just a great antique trunk and can be displayed proudly in any home. It measures 32 inches long by 20 inches wide by 23 inches high. The lid has a slight arch. Beautiful Refinished Antique Jenny Lind Style Trunk With Straps. Working Lock& Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really beautiful completely refinished Jenny Lind steamer trunk or travel chest from the mid 1800's and it is signed on the bottom in painted calligraphy with black paint of the owner's name and the county in Pennsylvania that he lived. Take a look at the picture of the bottom and you will see this beautiful signature. We think it is"James Selle" or something like that and it says. Mifflintown Juniata County" which is about 1 1/2 hours from our house and it is where we purchased this trunk to refinish. It is kind of neat to know who probably originally owned this trunk about 150 years ago. Anyhow, here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 26 inches, from floor to top is ... moreapproximately 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/4 inches. This is a Jenny Lind trunk as we have mentioned before in other ads. These Jenny Linds came about because of the opera singer from Europe. She traveled overseas to come to America to perform and she had beautiful trunks to carry her luggage in. The American trunk makers noticed the beautiful style and started making trunks with that look here in America for customers. It is the slice of bread shape on the side where the top angles in along with the base angling in towards the top. Also it has the metal banding with the decorative buttons or rosettes. These are notorious for the Jenny Lind style. The trunk dates back to somewhere around 1860 or so. The wood is in very nice condition. It has been finished with three coats of polyurethane to preserve it and give it a nice appearance. A lot of times, there is a big crack or gap going across the top on these older trunks because of wood shrinkage. This one only has a small hairline stress crack on the top which is very common on older trunks that we refinish. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Interior Divided Tray, and Working Lock& Key Here we have a nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with poplar or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings concentrated on to the outer slat boards along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these similar markings. ... moreThis beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the top of the trunk to it's base in addition to the lock and front latches. The front latches are in working condition and are original. The side handles have also been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Going to the inside of the trunk. It comes with the original divided tray. We have replaced the bottom of the tray with a wooden bottom to make it sturdy. We have removed the interior paper lining from the interior and tray since it was worn out. Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray Here is a lovely refinished dome top or arch top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 24 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. The trunk appears t be made up of poplar base wood which are rough cut boards. These boards show the saw blade marks from the saw mill since they were not planed down to a smooth texture. The outer slat boards appear to be oak or ash. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve the wood. This one was missing the lock when we ... morereceived it and we have given it an older replacement lock which is signed. It says, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. This replacement lock comes with the proper key and does work correctly. A lot of doll collectors and collectors of coins and Civil War items have purchased this smaller sized trunk to store their collectible items inside. If you have a teddy bear or doll collection, you can display those items in and on the trunk with the lid in the open position. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We do obtain all of our leather products for these trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. The front latches are original and do work properly and they have been remounted with screws. There has been a couple of areas of metal patchwork done on this trunk. One area is at the top left side of the lid. A piece of metal was missing and we have put in a piece to cover this area. A close up picture of this area has been shown. Antique Small Dome Top Hump Back Steamer Trunk w/ Tray Embossed Tin& Wood Description: Up for sale is this great old small sized Dome top or Hump Back trunk! This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather handles ... moreon either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray This one has surely come a very long way from when we purchased it. This one was completely painted pastel green on the exterior like they used to do in the 1970's with a lot of furniture items. We spent a heck of a lot of time stripping over 99% of the ugly paint off of the exterior. The trunk should date back to around 1900 or so. It is quite unusual in which it has the double locks. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has turned out to be a nice tannish brown color on the base wood and a tannish color to the slat boards. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some scrapes and nicks ... moreon the wood in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. All of these markings are very common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. When we received this trunk. The lower locks were cut off. So we have installed two vintage Eagle Lock Company locks, both of which will work with the one key provided. The upper receiving part for the locks on this trunk are original indicating that we have replaced the locks with similar ones. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/4 inches. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of our leather for these trunks is obtained from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. Here is a rare find. this is the tray from an antique trunk. The measurements are approx. 34 5/8" in l e ngth. 19 9/16" width at the bottom. 19" width at the top and approx.4 5/8" deep. Antique Steamer Trunk Pressed Tin Curved Hardwood Slats w/ Original Tray + Keys
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique steamer trunk with a domed lid. The original tray and two keys. The top of the trunk has beautiful curved hardwood slats held in place with brass tacks. It has two leather handles that are in very good condition, brass plated hardware and pretty medallion trim. The trunk has a plain black metal covering with embossed tin(acorn pattern) on the top, down the front and partially down the sides and back. The latches on either side of the lock read' PAT-JUL 97' and the lock is marked' LONG LOCK CO. The trunk comes with its original tray with a pretty cover on one side and the entire inside, including the tray, is lined with an attractive patterned paper. The bottom is also metal covered and has two plain hardwood slats running the length on each side. There are three small metal wheels near ... moreeach corner(one is missing) that make the trunk easier to move around on any hard flat surface. There is some surface rust here and there but nothing serious and no rust through(no holes) It measures approximately 32" long X 23" high at the highest point near the center X 18" wide. The two keys do not appear to be original to this trunk but they work perfectly, the previous owner's family probably had to find a locksmith to open it because once it's closed it's automatically locked, the keys will be placed in an envelope and taped to the outside so you can get it open when it arrives.

Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 25 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely dome top top should date back to the mid to late 1800's and it appears to be made up of pine and poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has a nice reddish brown color to it. There are some typical older distress marks on the wooden surfaces. These markings include older nicks and dings along with some slight ... moreareas of discoloration. The majority of the trunks that we refinish have similar distress marks. This one comes with the original working lock. We have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this nice trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. This one was missing the front latches, so we have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. Instead of having the metal latches, you can use the straps to secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled in addition to the working lock. As far as repairs go, there were two pieces of hardware missing where the outer slat boards meet. So we have replaced these with some home made pieces that look somewhat similar. There was also a section of an outer slat board missing, and we replaced it with a piece of slat board from a parts trunk. Brass Eagle Lock pat date Dec 6 1892 No key but it is unlocked and will not lock without one. It is possible to have a locksmith made one. Small Sample Antique Doll Trunk w/ Lock - key & Tray Great condition w/ handles
Lovely antique doll trunk or salesman sample. it is complete with working lock and key. Inside tray and leather handles. The trunk measures 16" long x 9 1/2" wide x 8 3/4" high. The paper inside is original but very brittle. I am afraid to wipe it in fear of damaging the paper. Very Solid. Antique Trunk Great Restoration Orig Tray Patent Date of 1877 Stagecoach Style
For sale today is a very nicely restored stagecoach style humpback trunk. I found one patent date of 1877 on the mechanical latches which makes this neat old trunk as much as 136 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the wood bottom is good. Has had multiple coats of clear applies, has three original slats and the four original metal wheels and they roll fine. The two original hinges are tight, polished, work well and the lid closes well. There is a new leather lid lifter on the trunk. The lid stay is original. There are 20 pieces of polished original hardware on the trunk. The center lock is original, has been polished and there is no key. The mechanical latches have been polished, are tight, fancy, HD and work well. The original tray is present and the interior has been removed. ... moreThe metal/tin is smooth and in good condition. Thirty four polished nail covers adorn the trunk. Th ere are five solid oak slats on the trunk. Two new leather handles were installed with the original hardware. Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key & Tray
Beautiful Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key and Interior Tray Here is a really fancy beautiful refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely hump back chest is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are typical older distress marks on the wood which include older scratches and nicks in various places, although the chest is very sturdy and can be sat upon the top if you want to do so. This trunk maker put a lot of nice metal hardware on this trunk. The metal parts that make up this trunk ... moreare not brass, therefore we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. This trunk also comes with the original patent dated working lock. This is the first time out of well over a thousand trunks that we have had this style of lock. It is patent dated on the key hole cover which is the only brass part on this trunk that we have semi polished. It reads, Pat Mar 69& Apr 77" There is a close up picture showing these dates. We did match up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. You can lock your belongings inside this beautiful trunk away from others. The front latches are original cast iron nice ones that still work since the springs are still intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a tray or insert for this trunk. It rests at the top edge where the original one once did. The interior wood and tray have received two coats of polyurethane. We did leave the fancy paper border in place on the underside of the dome and we added two nice trunk maker's style pictures to the underside of the dome. Considering how old this trunk is, the interior is in pretty good condition.
