Most Central American Pre-Columbian cultures produced little in the way of large scale stone sculpture. Costa Rica is an exception to the rule in its ... moreseated figural works such as this one; these figures have been interpreted by contemporary indigenous populations as Sukia or Shamans. ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS Artifacts. Antiques& Fine Collectables Mexico Colima Tripod Rattle-Leg Bowl 100% Authentic-w/Jackson COA Guaranteed Pre-Columbian! ... morecirca 200 AD If your looking for an 100% AUTHENTIC Pre-Columbian artifact to add to your collection. Then look no further! This amazing Colima Tripod Rattle-Leg Bowl comes with a Certificate of Authenticity(COA) from one of the top appraisers in the United States. Mr. William Jackson, president of Jackson Galleries in Kentucky. I Guarantee this ancient Red Tripod vessel is 100% original and authentic or your money back! There are lots of Pre-Columbian"fakes" and"replicas" on eBay that have not been appraised by an expert. Please, only buy your ancient artifacts from reputable dealers and collectors. Details: Height: 3.4” Diameter: 5.5” Weight: 74 lbs. or 335 gr. Age: Colima Culture. Western Mexico 300 BC—300 AD Material: Classic, Reddish-Orange Clay-fired at low temperature into pottery Condition: Two chips on mouth of vessel. No other cracks present. Providence: Included Artifact Authentication from Jackson Galleries. Dated 8/9/2011 This Red Colima Tripod was almost certainly part of the burial contents of a“shaft tomb” that was constructed in Western Mexico during the Late Preclassic and Early Classic Eras(150-500 AD) Although called shaft tombs. Several experts now describe them more as simple pits that were dug into the ground about 2 meters deep. This vessel. Like many others form this early period, is based upon gourd model. It is theorized that these vessels were part of a shamanic ritual and would hold food for the departed soul’s use as he/she traveled to the afterlife. eBay Note According to information I received. I certify that this Ancient Tripod Bowl was collected in Mexico between 1962-1968 by US museum archeologists and has since been decommissioned. PRE-COLUMBIAN CERAMIC PIECE Tumaco Colombia
This is a reproduction of an original piece from the Tumaco culture. Which flourished between 500 BC and about 500 AD in what is the Pacific coastal area of southwestern Colombia. This piece represents the head of an Indian woman, intentionally separated from the body as part of a funeral rite. The ceremony had the implicit connotation, that when a human being dies, so does his control of thoughts and the mind. The artistic expression in these figures is realistic, keeping individual physical features, and becoming a living portrait. This particular woman wears a delicate headpiece, her large earrings in flower shape symbolize her capacity to'listen to others' and in her nose a beautiful gold'nariguera' that was used as a constant reminder of'el peso de la palabra' or the weight of our words, and the responsibility ... moreto use them wisely. The shape of the head, considered a trait of beauty, reveals the custom in this group of binding and molding the form of the skull while young. Little is known about these cultures that occupied the area in and near Colombia. The Tumaco and Tolita groups lived on what is today the Colombia/Ecuador border. And their civilizations flourished and faded from 500 BC to about 500 AD. As other groups from Colombia, they were excellent goldsmiths and ceramists, the pieces that have survived are of extraordinary beauty, and interesting in their diferences from other groups. Pieces are characteristically peaceful and serene in expression, and colors are a softer gray, due to the ash content of the clay in that region. As always, because of the abundance of gold in the area, once the Spaniards arrived, whole groups were wiped out to loot the treasures. This group's high point was long before this arrival, but much was lost from burial grounds that could have given clues to their existence. The legend of El Dorado fueled more and more exploration. Even today, burial grounds can be discovered and pillaged, leaving little to study. Ceramics that remain today are from t

Rare Pre Columbian "Patojo" Pot - Ometepe Island, Nicaragua, c.800 AD - 1200 AD
Patojo Pot from Ometepe Island. Nicaragua-Nicaro Culture 800-1200 A.D Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This is a rare"patojo" pot from Ometepe Island. Nicaragua and made around 1000 years ago by the Nicaro culture(a branch of the Greater Nicoya Culture) Ometepe Island is located in Lake Nicaragua and it's name means two volcanoes. This is an interesting and rare piece of pre-Columbian pottery that it is decorated in the form of a guinea pig with eyes on either side and a snout at the tip of the pot. A"patojo" pot is called this because it is commonly made in the shape of a shoe, which is pronounced"patojo" in Spanish. These were made by pre-Columbian cultures all over the Americas and the reason for this is that these pots allowed the user to dip into the warm contents from the pot while the ... moreelongated end of the pot rested in a classic"comal" style oven. This anthropomorphic vessel has marks that represent the hair on the animal and that change at the tip to fit the face of the creature. This pot measures 6 3/4" X 4 3/4" with a height of 4" and the mouth of this pot is 3" wide. This piece has only got ships to the flared rim which still has red pigment on the top and seems to have black pigment on the underside. On the bottom of this piece the hash marks stop and on it are a collector's numbers. International buyers pay full cost of shipping. Whatever that might be. Please see my other auctions for more artifacts. Thanks for Looking!

Pre-Columbian Figural Vessel - Nayarit Culture / 200 BC - 250 AD/ Western Mexico
Pre-Columbian Mexican Sitting Figural Vessel Nayarit Culture. 250 BC- 200 AD ~ please scroll down for more photos ~ Pre-Columbian terra cotta figural vessel from Western Mexico. Nayarit Culture. 250 BC to 200 AD. SIZE: Height- 8.25" 12 cm) Width- 4.5" 11.5 cm) Depth- 3.5" 9 cm) An anthropomorphic male sitting figure. Leaning forward with his left hand holding an object in, or up to his mouth. His right hand is on his right knee. The figure has foreshortened legs, long curving arms of unequal length, a flattened face with a proportionate nose and coffee bean eyes. He is wearing multiple ear spools. This figure's head. Body, and legs are hollow and there is a large round opening at the top of his head, making the piece into a vessel as well as a figure. The figure's hair is cut into bangs across the forehead and the details ... moreof the hair were inscribed into the clay before firing. The neckline also has dimension and is raised up from the body. Depicting the figure to be wearing clothing. The surface of the figure is of the red burnished- polished clay and there are remnants of white and possibly black slip pigments painted on the face. There may have been yellowish designs on the chest. As well, but if so they hardly visible now. The surface shows dark dimensional manganese deposits in many areas. And some light encrustations of dirt and other substances in the crevices. This piece is between 1.800 and 2,250 years old. It was collected during the 1940's and was obtained from an old San Francisco collection. Condition: This piece is in good excavated condition with no losses. The following is noted: A tight. Stable, very thin hairline extending from the front of the figure's throat, over his right shoulder, to the back of his neck. It appears that there is a very old repair where the upper left part of the head has been glued back after a separation. A line showing this runs under his left eye, up the forehead and hair and down the back of his head and over the left ear(please see photos

Delightful Ancient Pre-Columbian zoomorphic Vessel (1000 - 1500 AD)
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This amazing zoomorphic vessel of a double-headed jaguar belonged to a personal collection of artifacts discovered in the Atlantic Watershed zone of Costa Rica. In the Nicoya P eninsula. Made by the ancient pre-Columbian civilization of the Chorotega people. Dating from 1000-1500 AD this incredible detailed piece measures10" in width and 9 ½" in height. The condition of the piece is superb with mild weathering of the surface as would be expected of an authentic piece of this age and minimal restoration to one leg(pleae see photo#6) The pictures are very clear and show the vessel as it appears. It was most likely used for drinking or burning ceremonial substances as other artifacts discovered in the same area were utilized. It is a museum quality piece worthy of any collection for a ... morevery fair price. Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE These vessels are distinguished by animal shapes. Often four-legged with two heads on opposite sides and a bowl on top. Realistic features and abstract designs are painted in clay slips of several colors on a light background. Pieces like this one with jaguar heads have been found in elaborate graves. They have a function in a ritual involving food or drink or the burning of incense. Likely possessed by a chief. Ceramics found in residential areas, presumably for everyday use, are much simpler and sturdier. The Chorotega was the most powerful American Indian tribe of northwest Costa Rica at the time of the Spanish conquest. The Chorotega were corn farmers. Had markets and a semidemocratic social structure in which chiefs were elected, and carried on frequent warfare with neighbouring peoples. They wore padded cotton armour and fought with bow and arrow and a wooden sword set with small flint knives. Religious festivals featured the South American custom of the ritual drinking bout; however, Mexican traits such as human sacrifice and self-mutilation of the ears, tongue, and genitals were also present. A pantheon of gods

VERY RARE & FINE-ANCIENT Pre-Columbian MAYAN Tubular JADEITE Bead
Very finely crafted. Long slender Mayan Jadeite bead, sourced in the Highlands of Guatemala. This amazing bead speaks to a level of craftsmanship that only the very early Indus Valley Cultures have equalled. Considering the technology at hand(which was that of sticks and abrasive powders) how does one make such a fine and delicate bead! The walls are thin, and the holes oversized. This allowed for maximizing the translucent quality of the jadeite. There is a little wear at one of the stringing holes, otherwise this wonderful and rare bead is in excellent condition. 25mm x 4mm. We combine shipping costs. ALL US POSTAL SERVICE FEES HAVE BEEN RAISED An additional fee will be added for shipping to Asia, as a tracking number is required.

Pre Columbian Pottery Artifact Figurine/Figure 2" from Ecuador~Pendant?
Up for bids is this Pre-Columbian Figurine. It measures 2" This artifact belonged to my 95 year old Ecuadorian grandfather who had an extensive collection of pre-columbian arftifacts. I am going to slowly sell his collection off as he is very old and isn't able enjoy them any longer. Please look carefully at all of the pictures as I personally do not know about the piece. It appears to have holes on either side of the top which almost looks like it was once worn as a pendant. I am selling this piece"AS IS" so please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. Superb Authentic Pre-Columbian Mixtec Penate ex. Arte Primitivo
I am re-listing this piece as the winning bidder wished to string it on a necklace for her to wear. Please be advised that when the piece was made the suspension holes were placed midways down the back(as can be seen in the pic) therefore it will NOT hang down vertically. This piece needs to be displayed for what it is, an outstanding piece of Pre-Columbian art. Not the biggest, but one of the most colorful Pre-Columbian Mixtec culture penates I have encountered. A really beautiful pale blue/green jade that I have seen some Olmec pieces also made of. This penate measures just under 1& 3/8" and is ex. Arte Primitivo and guaranteed 100% authentic. Please see my other auctions for other nice Pre-Columbian stone items.

Large Pre Columbian Mayan Toltec Stone Carving Quetzalcoatl Mayan artifact
Pre columbian mayan toltec stone head that reportedly came out of the Yucatan during the 1960's. I belive that this piece could have been carved with stone chisel. The age of this piece is unknown and sold as is with no authenticity expressed or implied. This could be a very rare object that shows a man with what could be facial hair. This could be a representation of the Mayan Deity Quetzalcoatl. Measures 6 1/8" tall and weighs 6 pounds 4 oz. Note the carved eyes are very similar to the carved stone warrior head of Chichen Itza. Pre-Columbian figure sculpture pottery from estate collection
This piece comes from an extensive estate collection. I am not sure of the exact location this piece is from but I was told this was collected in the early 1900's in Mexico. It may be Mayan or Aztec but I am not sure. Please see all photos for the best description I can offer myself. I am sure there are experts who will know exactly what it is. The actual piece is made from a strong pottery and is displayed on a stand with a wooden base. The clay piece is approximately 6-7 inches in length overall.
