PRE COLUMBIAN MOCHE LAMINATED TUMBAGA GOLD FUNERARY MASK 100 B.C. - 300 A.D.
Pre-Columbian Moche Laminated Tumbaga Gold Mask in the form of a Owl Head Lambayeque Valley Peru Circa 100 B.C. to 300 A.D. Description: A very important Moche Gold mask. Representing an Owl Head. This gilted laminated tumbaga gold mask showing a very accurate image image of an owl. Our Pre-Columbian Gold Funerary Mask is from the Moche culture. Lambayeque Valley Peru. Catalogue Notes: From the North Coast of Peru. Owls were an important religious animal, able to see into the dark and into the afterlife. Only King's and religious figures of high status wore such adornments. Pre-Colombian artisans excelled in metalwork; gold. Silver and copper funerary masks plundered from ancient tombs give witness to their skill and taste. T he quality is so high that the image could have been pressed in and hammered over leather molds. Moche was a powerful ... moreancient state on the north coast of present-day Peru. Reference: Gold& Tumbaga Gold Pre-Columbian gold has always been classified by the gold content. 80% or more gold in a piece is classified as pure gold. 60-80% as fine gold. 40-60% as poor gold. And. Under 40% gold in a piece as Tumbaga. Tumbaga was the name given by Spaniards to a non-specific alloy of gold and copper which they found in widespread use in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Tumbaga is an alloy comprised mostly of gold and copper. It has a significantly lower melting point than gold or copper alone. It is harder than copper. But maintains malleability after being pounded. Tumbaga can be treated with a simple acid, like citric acid, to dissolve copper off the surface. What remains is a shiny layer of 23-karat gold on top of a harder, more durable copper-gold alloy sheet. Use In The Americas Tumbaga was widely used by the Pre-Columbian cultures of central America to make religious objects. Like most gold alloys. Tumbaga was versatile and could be cast, drawn, hammered, gilded, soldered, welded, plated, hardened, annealed, polished, engraved, embossed, and inlaid. The proportion of gold to copper in artifacts

RARE POSS. MOCHE EROTIC CERAMIC STIRRUP - SPOUT VESSEL HUACO
Up for bids is this rare figural erotic stirrup-spout vessel. Possibly Moche(North Peru) culture, circa 500- 750 AD. I am not 100% sure this is a genuine ancient Moche pot, but I did the smell test by wetting the surface: the water disappeared quickly into the surface and it reeked very typically musky and earthy. Also it took about 3 days before the pottery was dry again. The m ale figure shows old crack repairs with bitumen or tar at his right leg. Right shoulder and side of his body. The left hand of the female figure similarly shows a bitumen/tar repair. I leave it to the connaisseurs and collectors of Pre-Columbian pottery to decide. I am offering this vessel at a low starting price. More pics can be sent per email on request. Dimensions: approx. 18. 5 x 15,5 x 10 cm. Condition: right leg of male and one leg of female(recently) broken ... moreand glued. No other damages or restorations. No parts missing. Please also look at the scans. Provenance: old Dutch private collection. Shipping solely with registered(sign-for) track& trace priority mail. Within Europe: € 14.50- € 20,50, depending on zone. Shipping outside Europe: US$ 35.00. PRECOLUMBIAN PRE-COLUMBIAN INCA MOCHE CHIMU AZTEC MAYAN ANCIENT PERUVIAN #3
Beyond stating that it is Mayan and genuine. I am not sure what function this apparently complete feline head would have served(if any- possibly just a votive talisman- Note the Fangs! It is complete and intact and measures just over 3" in length. Traces of white pigment remain. As noted, it is complete in itself. Shipping and handling in the US is $15; overseas will vary. PRECOLUMBIAN PRE-COLUMBIAN INCA MOCHE CHIMU AZTEC MAYAN ANCIENT PERUVIAN #2
This marvelous head was most probably placed over a second figure and worn as a"helmet" or a mask. This approach occurs on many Vera Cruz and Mayan pieces. Often associated with warriors or ball game figures. My guess is that this piece is most likely Vera Cruz. As noted, it is complete in itself and retains traces of both white and red pigment. One small apparent loss to the headband/headdress. The piece measures just over 2-1/2" in height. Shipping and handling in the US is $15; overseas will vary. As with every item I sell, authenticity is absolutely guaranteed. PLEASE NOTE: I SELL AND SHIP WORLDWIDE
PRECOLUMBIAN PRE-COLUMBIAN INCA MOCHE CHIMU AZTEC MAYAN ANCIENT PERUVIAN #1
This fragment captures the typical aristocratic facial profile that is characteristic of classic Mayan pottery. It is free of any restoration and measures just under 3" in height. The closed eyes are generally interpreted to mean that the figure is in a trance. Shipping and handling in the US is $15; overseas will vary. As with every item I sell. PRE COLUMBIAN MOCHE STIRRUP VESSEL WITH EROTIC SCENE 200 - 600 A.D.
Moche Stirrup Vessel Depicting an Erotic Scene Circa 200 A.D. to 600 A.D. Description: Atop this ancient vessel. A man and woman engage in exuberant sexual activity, intended for burial in tombs. What is so highly unusual about this particular piece, is that the female embracing her child against her chest. Such scenes might have been meant to evoke life's sensual pleasures in the hereafter. These intimate scenes also might represent the promise of fertility and renewal to come. Their directness seems startling, even by modern standards. Yet there is something timeless and eternal about them too; they remind us that the essentials of life continue no matter what other changes civilization might bring. Catalogue Notes: Moche erotic ceramics celebrate the wide scope of human sexual activity. On one level. These vessels evoke worldly pleasures ... morein all its variety, but their larger spiritual implications concern fertility and continuity of human life. Though the greater part of Moche ceramic art was intended for burial in tombs. Its themes celebrate the joys of life, the pleasures of senses. Powerfully explicit, Moche erotic vessels served a dual purpose, remembering the sensuality of this world and promising a renewal to come. Here, a man and woman resting on a cushioned mat engage in anal sex. If such scenes shock the modern viewer, it is perhaps because they refuse to blush in the face of life itself. In their presence, we are reminded that the fundamental activities of human existence are timeless and Universal. Period: Circa 200 A.D. to 600 A.D. Culture: Moche Culture. Northern Coast of Peru. Measurements: Circa 17 cm height. Weight: Circa 507 g ram. Material: Terracotta. Condition: Well preserved details. A small horizontal hole at the lower part of the Stirrup. Wood Ear Plugs, Moche, Peru | Pre Columbian
This incredibly well preserved set of Pre-Columbian wood ear plugs on which the geometrically decorated is attributed to the Moche horizon of Peru. C.100-800AD. Not wearable today due to the fragile nature of the wood there are certainly few other such pairs that have survived this well. Many wonder how the earrings remained in place when worn. This was easily achieved by wearing attaching a string to both ends of the jewelry and literally tying together back behind the neck. The front flat flares measure about 2.5" outer diameter. The tubular wearing surface is about just slightly thicker than 1inch(about 1 3/16" and overall length with front flare is about 3 7/8" inch. The pair is from the collection of my Grandfather who recently passed away. He was an Anthropologist and former primitive arts collector who has permitted ... moreus to handle a number of the last items from his important and varied collection. In overall good but delicate condition, and a unique addition to a collection of ancient body adornment or one emphasizing perishable materials, the ear plugs feature a carved center piece.
