I think the wood could be walnut the more I look at it in this dark finish. The overall size is 21 inches square and 35 inches high overall. Each section is 10 inches wide, 7 inches deep, 11 inches high and 12 inches high on the bottom shelf. It is missing a few of the brass tacks, but overall it is complete. Antique 1836 Wooden Single Bed Frame - Gorgeous - Abraham Lincoln's ?
Beautiful Antique 1836 Single Bed Frame w/ Headboard and Footboard. Please read the background about this very special antique bed. I was contacted by a gentleman some months wanting for me to help him sell off some of his family's possessions. One of these was the bed you see pictured here which can accurately be dated to 1836. As indicated on the bill of lading. The same bill also tells us that it was shipped from Meredosia, Illinois, not far from Springfield, IL. Now that information itself wouldn't have any significant meaning if not coupled with the fact that my seller shared with me that this bed was purchased by one of his family members on the steps of the Springfield city hall at an auction. Add the fact that this bed has been altered to accommodate a taller person(the average height for a person back then was only 5'8" ... moreand now you're looking at an interesting scenario. What does this imply? You may ask. Abraham Lincoln was living in New Salem(Northeast of Meredosia and North of Springfield) at the time this bed was delivered in 1836. The destination of the bed's delivery is unknown. The bill of lading makes reference to the fact that the bed was shipped from Meredisia. IL- that's 80 miles to the west of Springfield, IL and 16 miles northeast of New Salem, IL where Lincoln lived 1833-1836. This bed was purchased in the past through the municipality of Springfield. IL. How did the city of Springfield come to own it? Abraham Lincoln was 6'4" tall and would have needed a custom built bed to sleep on- such as the one listed here. At the end of the day. This just adds up to be a bunch of circumstantial facts that MAY indicate that this bed was delivered in the same area and at the same time that Abraham Lincoln was also there. It is evident that this is also a custom length bed capable of sleeping a man of 6'4" height. I am 6'4" myself. The side rails fit tight and there is three cross boards included. The bed is solid and strong and can be used daily. 2 pc antique French deco bedroom set chest single bed extensive inlay inlaid
I am calling this French deco for style and age. But this furniture is unsigned and I believe the work of a custom cabinet maker. I believe it was made in the 1930s. The set consists of a single bed(that's what you call a twin when you only have one) and a 4 drawer tall chest. This much inlay work of this quality today would cost well over $10,000, so no whining about the price. Be sure to notice the funky drawer pulls. The inlay work is on all 3 sides of the case pieces and just check out the finials on the bed posts. As mentioned above, the spoon feet look like they have been reglued if you look closely, but no parts were changed or replaced. Still all original, just put back together. Everything else is excellent. I just can't say enough about this beautiful well crafted furniture. You will not find another set like it. We are pleased to offer this EXQUISITE antique to older vintage(1930s/40s) single bed(including rails) and matching nightstand. The pieces are constructed of mahogany and have been painted at some point. They are exceptionally ornate and feature French. Louis XVI details. The footboard features a triple arched detail and is faced with two fluted, dimensional columns. The fluted pattern is incised and diagonal which is very striking. The legs of the footboard are tuned wood with a block feature. There is also a round, fluted"acorn" shaped section with a unique, carved arch detail. An acanthus scroll pediment is attached below the footboard and it has a double wreath feature in the center section. There is also a beaded trim, which extends the length of the footboard, just above the legs. An incised, rope trim is found at the top. ... moreThe headboard is also ornate with a center acanthus crown at the arched top. This is flanked with a carved finial detail on each side. The headboard features the same, incised columns as the footboard. The edges of both the footboard and headboard are beveled so that the pieces are not just"flat" with no dimension. The matching two drawer nightstand/table features the acanthus scroll trim, beaded trim and leg pattern that are present on the footboard. It has an acanthus crown at center of the stretcher area. The two drawers have dovetail joints with the trim faced on the drawers. THIS IS A VERY ELEGANT AND BEAUTIFUL SET. It is in EXCELLENT structural condition. I am assuming that the set was painted to mask some minor cosmetic age as there is evidence of some surface chips and"dings" under the painted finish. Stylized headboard with variegated grains flows down to the sturdy base. The simple. Streamlined lines of this piece, plus the warm rich feel it exudes is so very appealing to anyone's taste.
