FRENCH STYLE CANOPY OR FULL TESTER BED FULL SIZE
This is a very nice French style canopy or tester bed circa 1940. The finish is dark and looks like mahagonny wood but I can't be 100% positive. It may be walnut. The grain is tight like mahogany but the finish is brownish. The head board and foot board has the canopy part attached. The side portions of the canopy attach the same as the side rails of the bed with the hooks. The overall size of the bed measures 87 1/4" long. 64" wide, and 81" tall. The mattress portion measures 83" long and 62" wide. The canopy has a nice scalloped detail and the feet have a cabriole appearance. The bed has the original finish and could be cleaned to preserve the aged patina. It is a very attractive bed for a home with 8" ceilings. This French antique bed is crisply carved and absolutely gorgeous. The frame is exquisitely embellished with scrolls of acanthus foliage, twisted rope carving inset in the molded frames, large bold scrolls terminating most major joints and repeating laurel leaves along the rails- however, due to the warmth of the painted surface, the overall effect is rather reserved and works well with a pretty broad range of decor.
