We are pleased to offer this acanthus carved mahogany ball and claw twin size matching set of beds that dates from the 1930s. They come ... morewith big ball and claw legs in the front. Multi-turned legs in the back, acanthus carved posts and flaming finials on all four corners. A scrolled federal style pillar is on the shield of the solid mahogany headboard and footboard. The quality in this set is amazing. They have bolt-in rails and covers of beveled edge wood to cover the bolts, instead of the little brass disks. The size of the beds, on the outside, are 42.5 inches wide, 42 inches high to the shield on the footboard, 47.5 inches high on the shield on the headboard, 41 inches across the top of the rails, and 76 inches long. This is the type of bed where the box spring sits on top, with a guide rail on the inside, and the mattress sits upon that. They have been re-sprayed to remove nicks and dings on the headboard and footboard, and there was also a stain on one of the headboards and footboards that could not be sanded out. If you see it in the right light, you can see a bit of streaking, but it should age up OK. Other than that, the beds are in great shape, in a dark reddish brown color. Beds belonged to my great aunt in Virginia. I was raised with these twin beds in the 1950s to present. In very good condition. Slats are stable. Side boards solid and mounts are firm. This is the second of 2 listings for a set of R Way mahogany twin headboards/footboards. These were owned by my grandmother who purchased them with her set during the 1940s. I have had the headboards for over 35 years. Please see photos for condition. Overall. I think they are in good condition considering they have been in storage for the past 14 years. The beauty of the mahogany wood is still evident. They are dirty, and could use a good cleaning. See photos for marks, dings. All the gold leaf striping is still intact, as are the relief pieces attached in the center of each unit. The discoloration is the result of a water stain I believe, and I'm thinking that an adept furniture refinisher could remove this and restore it. The Headboard is 42 1/4" wide by 40 1/4" tall. The rails connect with bolts which makes them extra sturdy and they are standard twin size. They measure 43" wide(outside to outside) and the headboard measures 45.5" tall in the center, 48" tall at the top of the cannonballs and the footboard measures 37.5" tall to the top of the cannonballs. They are carrying the most unusual earlier looking pineapple top finials on all four posts. The pair of twin beds are unusual as they are the college edition. Which means they are 84 inches long. There is a real size mattress that is 39 by 84 and it is also for the taller people. The modern day twin size is 39 inches by 75 inches. These beds can be brought back down to the normal length for the buyer if they so desire as we can adjust the rail. They have solid mahogany posts that are 48 inches high, solid mahogany cutout Sheraton headboard shields, wonderful acanthus carved pineapple finial tops, fluted columns and are all finished in a dark brownish mahogany stain. ... moreThe outside wide of the beds are 42 inches wide.
