This is a wonderful pair of matching federal style pencil poster beds with fluted posts on the footboards ... moreand beautiful tapered posts on the headboards, with solid mahogany Sheraton style shields. This set has bolt-in rails of the dimensional type, so they are stout and sturdy. Someone has made metal brackets so the box spring can sink down and the bed is not as high as older beds usually are. The beds are mahogany, and the only flaw I see is that some of the bolt covers are mismatched. The rails have scrag marks on them, which is unique, and the beds are finished in a brownish red mahogany stain, with fluted Sheraton style posts on the footboard, with urn shaped vase finials. The overall size on the outside is 46 inches wide, 64 inches high on the footboard and headboard, and 39 inches high to the shield. The inside dimensions, for mattress purposes, are 41 inches wide, and 77 inches long. A modern size box spring and mattress will easily fit. They came out of a wonderful home in the Massachusetts bay area. This wonderful pair of solid mahogany twin beds features dainty posts that are 70 inches high that end with a dainty urn shape finial top. We had to replace one of the wooden balls on the finials that was missing. Also someone had broken one of the finials. Which was on crooked and we have re-centered it. The beds will take a modern day box spring and mattress as the inside dimensions are 39 inches by 75 inches. They have big iron brackets.
