Very good overall condition, This gorgeous antique oak Welsh dresser was crafted in England around 1940 in a Jacobean style. Today. The oak remains quite beautiful, with a deep, lustrous complexion, a pronounced grain, and a rich patina. The result is a wonderfully aged dresser that would complement any setting. This is particularly so, given the wonderful details in this piece, including the oak counter, tongue-in-groove paneling on the hutch, carved top, and elegantly turned legs. All shelves have grooves for plates to be displayed on and both cabinet doors lock with included key. Although this dresser remains very sturdy, it has sustained some superficial wear, particularly on the counter and legs where the finish has worn a bit. There are cosmetic age separations in the doors, but they are normal and do not affect the structural integrity of the piece. Overall condition is therefore very good. The height to the counter is 35.5" and the shelf depth is 6.5" This Welsh dresser contains plenty of storage space. The sides look great. The counter has sustained a little wear but nevertheless remains quite beautiful. These ring drop pulls go perfectly with the dark oak. Each drawer features dovetailed joints. The counter is shown close up here so you can get an idea of the minor wear to the finish on the top. The Jacobean decorated doors have age splits. A common cosmetic phenomenon. Too bad we can't buy these pieces of furniture for the estimates in the book. But it is good entertainment anyway and you will spend hours going through the 176 pages of pictures in this book if you are a Victorian furniture buff. This is a beautiful. Original, mahogany antique bedroom set with simple and gorgeous floral design. Manufactured by Berkey& Gay Furniture Company which originated in Grand Rapids, MI. The brass label as shown was used starting around the 1920's to the 1940's. The set is in very nice condition. Originally purchased for $2000.00 in 1995 as a birthday present. It was perfect for me as a young girl then served as a lovely bedroom set for my guest bedroom. I have since downsized and no longer have space for it. This set includes a beautiful twin bed with mattress and box spring included. There are minor scuff marks on side rails of bed. You will also see the simply elegant vanity with mirror and two drawers. There are some tiny scratches on vanity top molding. The mirror has a few small age marks. You are bidding on a Berkey& Gay full size all wood bed frame. It is a mix of black and brown tones. There are handpainted flowers in vases on the foot board. The railing is gold speckled and black. It is a very beautiful piece. The bed is on rollers. The Berkey& Gay brass seal is on the back of the head board. After some research about Berkey& Gay. We have discovered that this particular seal was used on furniture between the years of 1905 and 1929. We know nothing else about the bed. This is in wonderful shape- no splits or cracks. This is a beautiful bedroom set consisting of a full size double bed with headboard. Footboard, sideboards, and slats. Both the headboard and footboard consist of matched veneers with hand painted floral decoration and carved floral designs on the top edge of the headboard and bottom of the footboard. The dresser is also made with matched veneers. Floral painting and carving over the mirror rim and raised wood surrounding the painted motif. Both pieces carry the Berkey& Gay gold seal. These beds came into our shop with the finish all crazed where the varnish has aged over the years. So we completely stripped. Sanded, stained, sealed with multiple coats of lacquer, sanded again and then covered it in multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer to produce his expensive looking rich luxurious reddish brown finish. The beds are gorgeous with the real true pineapple finials, multi turn posts on top of a flared long turn multi turn spindle post that goes into a multi turn bun foot. The shields and cross rails are solid mahogany. This pair of beds are bolt on and are sturdier than you will ever need. The box spring sits on top of the rail with an inside guide to hold it in place with the mattress on top. The beds are tagged Berkey and Gay with the circular emblem. They are simply a fantastic pair that we are excited to be offer today. Berkey& Gay's brass seal set into the drawers dates these pieces to the 1920s. This ensemble features a Renaissance revival style with Elizabethan Tudor roses carved into the panels. Jacobean bulb legs, patterned veneer, and ornate hand-carved wood in rosettes and rope twist. The drawers have red cedar backs and sides to repel moths. The price of this set reflects its original excellence of design and execution. berkey&gay twin 8 pcs bedroom set.
This antique berkey&Gay 8 pcs twin bedroom set has been in my family for the last 45 years. It's from the circa 1900s. We were using the two twin beds as one cal- king bed. It comes with two dressers. Two mirrors, one night stand, a bench seat. Do to the different lighting conditions the wood may look darker then the other pcs. It's a really nice well designed set. 5 piece Berkey & Gay bedroom set
I've marked this as"local pick up only. but I will deliver it for the price of the gas just about anywhere in the continental US or you can come get it. This five piece bedroom set was settled on me by an ex-husband whose parents received it as a wedding gift in 1935. It's all in good though not pristine condition, other than the smear of varnish put on one side and front of the top drawers on the chest of drawers by a man who thought the varnish was"oil" and that it would"clean the dust off. The chest of drawers is just under 47" tall, just under 21" deep, and just under 34" wide. The double bed has headboard and footboard. The mattress and box springs are in very good condition and can go with it, but don't have to if you'd rather buy new. The vanity is 48" wide, 30" tall, and ... more18" deep. It has a wide drawer in the center, and cupboards with a drawer and little insets on each side and a separate drawer above that. see photo) The mirror that goes with the vanity is 37" tall and 24" wide including the frame- the actual mirror shows 27" tall and 21" wide. Berkey & Gay 6 piece Hand Painted set.Matching numbers 1743/50 Grand Rapids made
We have decided to start selling some of our family's antiques. Here we have a very original Berkey& Gay bedroom set manufactured in Grand Rapids Michigan. By the medallion on each piece we believe it is from 1887-1905.It does have age appropriate wear with the worst of it being on the headboard and one missing corner on a table( see photos)there is no damage to any of the wicker. This comes from our 1890 home and we believe it to be original from here. Some of the original paper on the felt liners inside the glove boxes is still there as well as the matching number 1743 written in chalk on the back of it. Also written in chalk is the name" Carother" on the bottom of one of the drawers. Each piece has the number 1743"stamped" into it but under the glove box of the larger dresser is stamped 1743/ 50. There are many ... morephoto's so it was hard to only pick 12.I would be happy to send any other pictures per request. The furniture has only been dusted off. We heard many opinions on how to clean it but never tried any of them in fear of ruining any of the originality. The dresser measures 35" tall. 50"long, 23" deep. Its mirror is 30" x 35" The vanity measures 30" tall. 48"long, 22" deep. Its mirror is 25" x 30" The vanity chair is 36" tall. 18" seat height and 18" wide. The side table is 30" tall. 28"long, 21" deep. Its seat is 18"tall, 22"long and 15" wide. The bed is 56" wide with 76" long side boards. The headboard is 52"tall. Footboard is 34" tall. The listing says local pick up only because we don't know how to safely crate or box the items. 1890's" Walnut Berkey and Gay" (Grand Rapids Furniture) Two Piece Bedroom Suit
Often referred to as Grand Rapids furniture. This highly collectible"Berkey and Gay" full bed and dresser is marked with original paper tag which was used in their furniture production in the 1880's and 1890's. I bought this Black Walnut Berkey and Gay full bed and matching dresser about 10 years ago. It is a beautiful set that was in an extra bedroom. We are downsizing and this is one of the antiques I am reluctantly parting with in the transition. The auction starting price is a much reduced price for what I paid for the set.
