It’s authentic, ... morethough, and was purchased from a notable rug dealer in soho New York. Only used in one of my homes for 2 years and then stored in a sealed bin. There are two minor stains and some fringe is torn but otherwise only natural and minor pulls or wear. My home had a cat but the rug has been vacuumed, steamed, and spot treated as best as I could. Cornelius Vanderbilt(May 27, 1794- January 4, 1877) was an American entrepreneur who built his wealth in shipping and railroads. He was the patriarch of the Vanderbilt family. 1960's New York, Central & Hudson River Railroad stock gold bond certificate
New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company issued and cancelled $1.000 gold bond certificate dated in the 1960's. This is an authentic certificate, not a copy or reproduction. The certificate has a beautiful engraved lithographic vignette of an old steam locomotive with a harbor scene and factories in the background. The bond is unusual in that it is payable in the Gold Coin of the United States upon maturity in 1998. The Troy and Greenbush Railroad was chartered in 1845 and opened later that year, connecting Troy south to East Albany on the east side of the Hudson River. The Hudson River Railroad was chartered May 12. 1846, to extend this line south to New York City; the full line opened October 3, 1851. Prior to completion, on June 1, the Hudson River leased the Troy and Greenbush. Cornelius Vanderbilt obtained control of the ... moreHudson River Railroad in 1864. Soon after he bought the parallel New York and Harlem Railroad, and merged the line into the New York Central Railroad. The vignette is a picture of Cornelius Vanderbilt, one of the most famous industrialists of the 20th century. Cornelius Vanderbilt(May 27. 1794– January 4, 1877) was an American entrepreneur who built his wealth in shipping and railroads and was the patriarch of the Vanderbilt family. Vanderbilt entered the railroad business in 1857 and eventually gained control of the New York and Harlem Railroad. Besting his rival, Daniel Drew. However, Drew and his associates James Fisk and Jay Gould thwarted Vanderbilt’s efforts to gain control of the Erie Railroad in the“Erie War” of 1867-68. Despite this setback, Vanderbilt managed to expand his empire through purchase ... moreand consolidation. He gained control of the New York Central in 1869. By 1873, he successfully linked New York to Chicago by rail. During the Panic of 1873 and the resulting depression, Vanderbilt began construction of Grand Central Terminal in New York City, offering employment to thousands who otherwise would have been unemployed. The New York Central was one of the few railroads that posted profits during the depression. The certificate has ornate blue borders and is a great piece of history. The certificate is in very good condition for its age with only a slight or small fold mark. The certificate is punch cancelled so its value is as a collectible. Certificate would make a fine addition to your collection. As a framed print or a great gift. Stock certificates are becoming a hot collectible due to the advent of electronic trading which has virtually eliminated the issuance of certificates. New York Central Railroad Company issued and cancelled $10.000 gold mortgage bond certificate issued in February 1932. This is an authentic certificate, not a copy or reproduction. The certificate has a beautiful engraved lithographic vignette of an old steam locomotive with a harbor scene, a bridge and factories in the background. The Troy and Greenbush Railroad was chartered in 1845 and opened later that year, connecting Troy south to East Albany on the east side of the Hudson River. The Hudson River Railroad was chartered May 12, 1846, to extend this line south to New York City; the full line opened October 3, 1851. The certificate is in EXCELLENT condition for its age and has the normal punch cancellation/staple holes and slight creases from mailing.
