I inherited this pot from my grandmother who traveled to South America in the 1940's. I think she went with the National Geographic Society. I have 16mm films of her travels including a head-shrinking ceremony. It has a tiny hairline crack in the rim which can hardly be seen without a magnifying glass. It won't show-up in a photo. There is also what might be a small repair on the under side of the rim the size of a dime or it might just be part of the original design. Not sure. If I can get it to show-up in a photo. Impressive Large Pre-Columbian South American Pottery
This is a very impressive large Pre-Columbian pot from South America. The pot has a foot. A shape with presence, and a surface that almost looks to be metal the way it is crafted. The pot is in great condition other than missing one decorative"handle" and a hairline crack in the foot(see pictures) Measures 8 1/4" H X 5 3/4" at rim. Very old Peruvian double spouted vessel with bridged handle. The decoration is hand painted depicting a figure's head. The vessel in very good condition. No chips or cracks, but please note there is a some wear to the pigment on the handle and the design, as shown in the photos. The vessel measures approximately 6 1/2 inches high and 6 inches wide. Antique South American or Mexican( Figurine w/Costume and Rifle Not sure what this is. But know for sure much effort and craftsmanship was put into it, and much detail. Materials also seem very old. I believe it is a representation of a group of people- Mexican. Indian. looks Southwestern or South American. The hands are black, looks like there was originally a mustache and eyebrows. Metals trim on the sleeves and bottom of the garb, leather belt, rifle and backpack etched wood. Not in the best of condition but is seems like an important record of a"peoples" to me.
