SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 156 millimeters(6 1/4 inches) Breadth: 62 millimeters(2 1/2 inches) Depth: 47 millimeters(1 7/8 inches) CONDITION: Very Good. Almost all of the paint has oxidized/decomposed except for the black of the hair. And traces of red on the robe’s sash. A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any funerary item which is 1,400 years old. Some encrusted dirt which could be gently brushed away with a toothbrush. Not flawless, but certainly in a better than average state of preservation. Stands on its own. DETAIL: A nicely preserved clay statuette so wonderfully characteristic of Sui-Tang Dynasty statuary. Probably the depiction of a matronly woman of high birth. She is depicted in both a formal pose and wearing formal clothes. Once painted in white, black and red, there still remains traces of a thick layer of amount of paint remaining, though it is clear that most of the paint has oxidized/decomposed. Though most of the original black paint coloring the hair remains visible beneath the layer of soil deposition, very little else remains except for a faint trace of red along the robe’s sash. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Production of both painted and sancai glazed figurines dominated the pottery scene, and their production continued well into the Ming era which advanced the art with more intense colors and finer porcelain clay. The pottery and porcelain figures produced from the Tang all the way through the Ming Dynasties are famous even until today for their beautiful multicolored glazes and paints occurring on both mortuary pieces for funerary use as well as on utilitarian pie

PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR JAMACOAQUE This is a very beautiful female Pre Columbian authentic pottery head fragment from Ecuador. My photos are close up to show detail but the figure looks more detail when viewed from a normal distance. It has remaining red paint on the elongated headdress front and back which has four unidentified three dimensional ornaments. The face has heavily lidded eyes and is wearing ear ornaments and has a collar around the neck. The expression seems very peaceful.One side lappet is missing and the nose and chin have some minor damage. It measures 2 7/8 inches high and 2" across the headdress. The face itself is 1 inch high.Unusual in that the base almost resembles a wine stopper with a rounded section that I have pictured. The fragment will not stand alone because of the rounded base. Basic clay color seems to be gray as on the one side of the headdress but the face is lighter. There are tiny reflective crystals in the clay. Photos are a bit darker than the fragment. It is a light beige clay color with remaining blue paint highlights on the headdress. It is a female figure with a knee length skirt standing on bare feet. The body is adorned with a large necklace and remenents of bracelets and there is a nose ring and what appears to be multiple ear plugs or earrings. The headdress has both long side lappets which most often are broken. It is missing the lower part of one arm and has some damage to the fingers of the outstretched hand. There is also damage to the toes on the inside of one foot foot. Not evident from the front is a small cavity behind one ear. The figure appears to be completely solid with no firing hole. Very nice condition with no ... moredamage to the body. This is nice vertical figure that stands by itself. It measures 6 1/2 inches high and 3 inches across the shoulders. The naked figure stares out into the distance through the hollow slits of her eyes, the mouth held open. She clutches her sides in the pose typical of Nayarit female figures, the gaunt features of the face contrasting with the broad body and exaggerated breasts. Her hair tied up into an elaborate coiffure, she wears three spools in each ear and a thick collar around the neck. This is not only an enchanting piece of pre-Columbian art. It tells the story of Nayarit ritual practices and traditional beliefs. PRE COLUMBIAN FIGURE ECUADOR JAMACOAQUE This is an authentic pottery Jamacoaque seated figure from Ecuador. Although small. 3 1/4" high, it still has nice detail and is very three dimensional. It seems to be a seated female wearing an elaborate headdress, necklaces and large ear plugs. The hands are resting on the knees and are worn and she is missing the tips of both feet. The figure has the characteristic ritually deformed head seen in the side and back photographs. The nose is worn but the facial features are still quite visible. It will stand by itself as the bottom is flat. There is no decoration on the back which is completely smooth. The color of the clay is beige and uniform in color. It will display nicely when lit from above as the details show better with shadows rather than straight on face front. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR FEMALE POTTERY FRAGMENT JAMACOAQUE This is an authentic Pre Columbian pottery fragment of a female figure Jamacoaque culture 500 B.C. 1000 A.D. It has a burnished finish with the collar in turquoise. This a female figure wearing a skirt. Necklace and bracelets, nose ring and lip plug. There are what appears to be earrings on the ears. The face is quite detailed with heavily lidded eyes. The figure has not been cleaned and the debris around the one eys can be removed professionally if you desire to have it done. This is a beautiful fragment and highly glazed. The left hand is missing the fingers and the right hand has a few fingers with rough edges. The back of the right lower arm and back of the right hand have damage and looks as if it was repaired but the edges are not even. The front of the hand looks very good. The ... morefigure is completely hollow. I have it displayed on several stands just for the photographs as it is obviously not free standing with the bottom half missing. The last photo shows that it can be displayed nicely but I did not have a proper stand so it is rather high. A beautiful detailed fragment to add to a collection or to start with. Measuements are approximately 5" across from hand to hand in the front. Approximately 6" high to the shortest front part and another 1' long to the longest piece, approximately 3 1/2" across the top of the shoulders in the front and 3 3/4" a little lower down, face alone is approximately 2 x 2, ear to ear is 3" and a little over three inches from the top of the head to the chin, The head or headdress 3 1/2" across the crown over the eyes. Since the figure is rounded and not flat these are approximate measurements.

I'm definitely not an expert in the art of antiquities pottery so I'll describe best I can but please use the photos and your knowledge to help figure what this piece is and it's age. As I don't know if it's original or a reproduction. There's a pottery head of a female with an ornate headpiece. My guess is that it is Mayan or Incan. It's 2" tall and 1.5" at its widest. It's been mounted in definite modern times to a 2" square of white onyx stone that is 3/4" thick as a paperweight. The pottery is in nice condition. The onyx has some chips and nicks on some corners as in the photos. Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple ... morejobs and can only ship one day a week. Jamacoaque culture 500 B.C. 1000 A.D. from a private collection.It is a bit over 5 1/2' tall and 3" across the shoulders. The face itself is 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 The burnished and glossy areas would represent skin. The head has well defined ear ornaments, nose, nose ring and eyes. A large necklace is around the neck and the bands on the arms seem to be bracelets. The figure has been displayed on a lucite base and also upright for photographs as it will not stand by itself. It is completely hollow. All damage is pictured. Partial headdress and partial loss of hands mostly the right. It has an old repair with 2 pieces glued. The entire right arm section is one piece from the front to back and a second smaller piece connects ... morethat one and to the other side. The sections fit together rather well with the cracks lining up with no major gaps a little under the right ear. The remaining figure is one piece and not broken. All cracks and repairs are pictured. The back is completely smooth with no raised decoration. Debris has not been removed but seems to flake off with handling and a soft brush would remove more if desired. This figure could be repaired professionally and cleaned but I have left it as is.
