When Rain Gods Reigned. From Curios to Art at Tesuque Pueblo” By Duane Anderson. Published in Santa Fe by the Museum of New Mexico Press in 2002. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Rain gods and their relatives developed out of an earlier tradition of larger hollow clay figurines. The earliest of which was collected at Tesuque Pueblo(New Mexico) in 1879. They continue to be produced at Tesuque Pueblo to this day, constituting the longest continuous figurative art tradition in the Southwest. This book traces the evolution of the rain god from tourist art to Indian self-identity and self-expression. Importantly, it studies a popular form that has heretofore failed to earn the serious attention of scholars and collecting institutions and further the discourse on how art is defined and valued” DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 9”x10” ... more143 pages, color and black& white illustrations. Large Native American Southwestern Animal Effigy Clay Pottery - Decorator Piece
This clay vessel depicts several animal effigies. This is a large. Skillfully crafted, Southwestern style, clay artwork in the form of a vessel depicting several animal effigies. There are no cracks or chips and other than the paint being faded, it is in perfect, original condition. This is a large piece, standing over 12 inches tall and almost 12 inches wide. It is the perfect decorator piece to compliment fine, Southwestern or Meso-American decor. I inherited this collection and am not an expert. I photograph and describe the pieces to the best of my limited knowledge. Please study the photos and make your own judgement about cultural origin, and age. In my opinion, this is not an ancient piece but is a fine example of Southwest pottery dating back probably 50 to 75 years. I have another clay effigy which sells the same night as this one. ... moreIt is another wonderful decorator piece. Please check that out. USA shipping only unless approved in advance. A SIGNED ANCIENT NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN HIDE ARTEFACT. RED INDIANS IN CANOE.
An ancient Native American Indian/ Red Indian artefact which depicts two Native American Indians or Red Indians seated in a canoe. The entire object is made from hide. Indian artifact possible grindstones grinding rock native american fire starter
I have 2 stones in this listing that may or may not be indian grinding stones. I am pretty sure one is and am not sure about the second. They look like stones used to either start fires or grind in the holes. They were both found in Illinois. The first on measures a little over three inches long. Is roughly triangle shaped and is solid rock. It is almost 2 inches tall. It has two holes, one on each side. The first is 1 inch x 1inch wide and is roughly 1/2 inch deep. The second hole is 1x1 and is about 3/4 inch deep going in at an angle. The second stone is smooth all over. Measures 5 inches long, 3 inches wide and 1 inch tall. It is shaped to be held in the hand, with the bottom being smooth. This is all I know. They were given to me by my grandparents who are passed. I have another auction with another stone please check it out. Posted with
Indian artifact possible grindstone grinding rock native american fire starter
I have a stone that was given to me by my grandparents that they told me was a grinding stone used by Native Americans and they got it in Illinois. I don't know much about it other than that. But also think it might instead be a fire starting stone. It measures 3 inches long. 1.5 inches wide and is 1.5 inches tall. The hole in it is quite smooth and goes at an angle approximately 1 inch deep. Hole is 1x1 I am hoping this can go to a good home. Rock on outside is rough hewn. I am also listing another one so check it out. Posted with
