This is a Pre-Columbian. 300 AD- 650 AD) Mayan, Head Fragment from Mexico, measuring about 3 inch high. It is a hollow mold piece that was once part of a figure. A large parted hairdo, a large bulbous nose, two eyes, two ears with earrings, a mouth and raised symbolic facial scaring is evident. Up for auction is a Large Wooden Sculpture of the Mayan King Pacal from Palenque Mexico. This carved wooden statue measures 14 inches high and about 6 inches wide. These are very nice pieces of art from Mexico or S. America. They might be pre-Columbian. I'm not an expert. But I purchased these statues from a high-end estates sale where some very nice ancient art was being sold. Must have been a collector. The middle piece(the tallest) is right under 9 inches tall. The one with the broken leg is also about the same hight. The shortest one is seven inches tall. There are some minor chips and discoloration on all pieces(see photos) But all in all, they are in great condition considering their age. They will be carefully packaged to insure no breakage. They are awesome pieces for the collector. I held on to these pieces not wanting to sell them because the were so different and unique, but they should go to someone who knows their worth and appreciate them. A number of these wheeled pieces are known and are thought to date from the Classic to Late Post-Classic Mayan Period(250 AD- 1200 AD) Various attributions for similar objects are to the Olmec. Mayan, Toltec, and Vera Cruz cultures, so maybe they were made by a number of cultures. It seems that it is not known whether these wheeled pieces were made as children’s toys, ceremonial effigies, or had some ... moreother purpose. Probably ceremonial, possibly burial pieces. This piece is hand-made and has all four wheels. It is in the form of a jaguar. With a long tail, upright ears, a detailed face and an open mouth. The piece appears to have four original wheels, but the axles(sticks) have been replaced since the original wood would long ago have deteriorated. There are traces of red paint on the face. The surfaces show. In addition to some traces of paint, darkening, light encrustation, old wear to the rolling surfaces of the wheels, and an overall aged darkened patina. There are several archeological or collection markings to the underside of the jaguar. As you can see in the photographs. This piece was purchased at a Butterfield and Butterfield auction in San Francisco about 20 years ago and was part of an old collection being sold. I bought it from the purchaser shortly after he obtained it from the auction house. It has been in my own collection since 1994. He wears an animal skin headdress, long ear sashes, scarified face with huge pectoral on his chest; whistle is on his proper left side. Piece stands about 8-1/2" in height. Hi. I have a large and heavy pre-columbian pottery head for auction. This is a very solid artifact. It still has ancient dirt inside. Ancient Pottery This auction is for a really neat set of ancient pottery pieces that were collected by a local man back in the 1950s or so when he took one of several trips to Mexico. I would imagine these were found on ancient Mayan or Aztec sights but I can’t be sure because the man has since passed away. One of them is a quartz rock carved like a face and most of it is broken off at the back. It measures about 2" tall. The other piece is some kind of lid or pendant because it has a little hole at the back. Looks like a lizard or dog or something. Measures about 1¼" tall. Both are guaranteed old and authentic so if you find out they are indeed newer you can return them. But I had them looked at by a specialist in Central American artifacts and they appear true. Hi. I have an awesome Colima Bed Figure for auction. This authentic ancient artifact is in great condition. This figure has ear spools, headdress, and necklace. It has a pillow under it's head. This figure is bound to the bed which usually means that it was a medial patient. The straps were to hold them down while they were being operated on so that they couldn't move during surgery. Most bed figures just show the person reclining on their bed. There are many copies of ones similar to this that are given to Doctors. This one is the real deal. This great artifact date from 200BC-400AD. There appears to be an old repair to the back of this piece. Hi. I have an incredible Olmec green stone celt. It has the Olmec Were Jaguar face. There is a white matrix ont he top of the piece that makes it look like hair. The is a chip in the forehead of this great piece, probably from being dug up with a shovel. He has his arms crossed in front of him. the body comes down into the celt form at the bottom. This dates from 800-200BC. I bought this many years ago from a private collection that was acquired in the 1960's-70's.
