Ashtray Ceramic Vase Marajoara Art Amazon Brazil
Ashtray Design Replica Pre-Columbian Marajoara Clay. Amazon B razil Size = 2.5"x 4.5" Marajoara ceramic is the heritage of the indigenous tribes of Amazon region. The applied technique began in the year 400 AD and is present in Brazilian culture nowadays. This pottery is one of the oldest and expressive Brazilian cultural traditions. On the misty Amazon River there lies the world's largest Fluvial Island known as Marajoara where the descendants of the Marajoara people live. Many of these people are artisans skilled in a very unique and special pottery which has been past down through thousands of generations. Currently. Ceramic objects inspired style Marajoara are produced by artisans who are in most cases descendants of Indians(Caboclos) and maintain a tradition of ceramic production that has been passed down from generation ... moreto generation. Marajoara Terra Cotta Ceramic Vase, Amazon area, Brazil, Marajo Island
The Marajoara or Marajo culture was a pre-Columbian era society that flourished on Marajo Island at the mouth of the Amazon River. And dates from about 700 AD and 1500 AD. Today, in the Amazon region, several groups of potters dedicate themselves to preserve the legacy of their ancestors, indigenous populations who inhabited Marajo Island long before the European conquest. They have studied the techniques and iconographic symbols created in prehistoric times and now produce beautiful ceramic vessels, plates, and figurines, which are replicas of archaeological specimens. This unique vase was produced by the present-day potters in the Amazon region using the techniques of their ancestors. The finished terra cotta pottery is dried and hardened in the sun and then incised with traditional designs used in the past. This vase is 9 inches high and ... more6 inches wide. It is basically black& white, but in some light has a greenish& pinkish hue.

Located at the mouth of the Amazon River. Marajoara pottery is made by skilled ... morevillage artists on Marajo Island in the Amazon of Brazil who have learned the art through many generations. The first pottery from this area can be traced back 2000 years ago. Designs today are still made from the old designs made by the Marajoara Indians and by using the same techniques and ingredients used back then. The pottery is cured by drying under the sun near a fire that burns for many days. A variety of substances may be mixed with the clay, such as ground seashells, bones, and ashes to get the colors and consistency that the artist is looking for.
