Encrusted ... morematerial, Approximate Age, Mid/second half 20th century, Dimensions, 20.5 inches H. x 6.5 inches W. Overall Condition, Good. Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents. And have been treasured by several owners.  Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage. Damage/Repair, Holes and chips from old bug damage arrested. Shallow crack in torso, encrusted surface, Additional Information: A male figure sitting on a circulr base with arrms on knees. The body is covered with traces of encrusted material that can be seen throughout the body. from the Dogon people of Mali. The surface and texture on this well carved sculpture shows sign of long use and good age. This Dogon figure was used as a shrine piece and a representation of a Nommo. One of the mythic ancestors to whom prayers are made to get bessings. Among the Dogon of the Bandiagara escarpment near the Niger River in Mali, art and mythology are often the same. They share visual images whether carved or spoken of during their rituals. A shrine figure such as this would be kept in the lineage elder’s house and used during annual rites that take place during the winter solstice known as ‘goru’. Traces of encrustation are the result of much ritual activity where offerings would be poured over the seated figure. The well carved arms and legs and the shaping of the head and detailing of the beard and the sculpting of the mass of the upper chest makes this the work of a master carver of some skill. 75401* All content. COLIMA, Mexico Pre Columbian Pottery Male Figure with Skin Lesions 400-800 A. D.
This is a primitive piece of pottery made in Colima. Mexico circa 400-800 A.D. It is mounted on a wooden pedestal that gives the information about the piece and the back is an advertisement for Valisone Cream. This looks prehistoric and I believe it to be an authentic piece. The ad had me concerned, but the owner of this piece is a retired Archaeologist, so I now feel comfortable again calling this pottery piece an authentic primitive piece from Colima, Mexico. It measures 2.75" x 4.5" and is in great condition. See pictures for details and please contact me with any questions. 1150 14th#18

PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR JAMACOAQUE POTTERY SHAMAN FIGURE SITTING MALE AUTHENTIC
PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY SHAMAN MALE FIGURE JAMACOAQUE This figure is an authentic Pre Columbian figure of a seated Shaman from Ecuador attributed to the Jamacoaque culture dating from 500 A.D. 1000 A.D. I am not an expert and there are so many variations on the dates. The figure is 6 inches tall and approximately 3 inches across the shoulders and is seated on a round pedestal seat with a diameter of 1 5/8 inches. Nice detail on the head and face surrounded by a headdress missing one corner. The figure has the tongue sticking out in a grotesque expression and is wearing a necklace and an elaborate costume. There are bracelets on the wrists snd ankles. It looks like some sort of cloth apron covering the front of the figure. Color of the clay is a light tan throughout with scattered dark areas of mineral deposit. The clay also has tiny reflective ... morecrystal formations. I have darkened the first images to show detail. It will stand by itself only briefly as I have only supported it for one side photo. It will definitely need support for display as the front of the left leg is missing. You can see that the remaining back of the right foot holds the figure erect with the head bent slightly forward as only the front part of the foot is missing. Part of the fingers on the right hand are missing and the right leg with part of the apron attached has been glued on. Not too bad a job as the edges meet. Refer to the close up photos. There is a large hole in the top of the head and two round circles where something is definitely missing. No damage to the remainder of the body with a few nicks here and there on some edges to be expected. Even with this damage it is an impressive figure that will display nicely as is on a stand or possibly a candidate for professional resotration if you so desire. Unusual LARGE Pre-Colombian NAYARIT 11” Standing MALE Figure
Offered is a fine authentic pre-colombian Nayarit figure of unusual large size. At 11” he is almost twice the average height for this type of figure. He is wearing an elaborate headdress and a wide belt with molded details at the back. Fine original excavated surface retaining most of the original red. Now with extensive natural calcite and manganese deposits from burial. This is from the estate of a local artist who painted in the American southwest and Mexico in the 1930’s. The figure was originally holding something that looks like it might have been a war club that is now missing. Old repair to the neck, and a few scattered chips and losses(see photos) but otherwise fine original condition.

Box C-K. This is a wonderful antique Pre-Columbian piece. I purchased this from a local estate as Pre-Columbian and they have been in the family for decades but that is really all the information I have. In looking around on the internet they look like they may be form the Chimu People in Peru.
