The story of these astonishing 3 artifacts began off of the coast of Peru near the town of Chimbote sometime between 1000 A.D. and 1500 A.D. They are believed to have belonged to a woman from the Chimu Civilization. As they have strong similarities to other Chimu textiles. The Chimu Civilization was the largest civilization to thrive in Peru. Just before the Inca came to power around 1500 A.D. Just as today. Life near Chimbote, called the great City of Chan Chan in the Chimu period, revolved around the sea and trade goods. Fine textiles were prized as status symbols of wealth and power. And traded for goods found only in the interior regions of Peru. Women who excelled at the art of weaving lived in better housing within the City of Chan Chan. And were provided with the best food and care. They made tunics. Loin cloths, and carry bags for ... morethe politicians and elite, and for trade to bring in the best goods for the elite. Other women weavers lived outside of the City. And made clothing and bags for the general population. The woman's tomb containing these artifacts was uncovered deep in the sand near Chimbote in the early 1960's. This ancient woman was discovered with her backstrap loom. And still on the loom was the unfinished textile she was buried with, to finish in the after-life. Her burial shawl was wrapped around her head. Face and upper body. The part of the shawl here is the top piece that covered her face and hair. The smallest textile artifact is believed to be the remnants of a shoulder strap to a purse that carried her necessities to the afterlife. The tight weave of these textiles is astounding. And the strap has a pattern of long woven rows with deliberate small gaps woven between them. It's fascinating. A technician aboard the famous hospital ship HOPE was skilled at carpentry. A cute piece for the easier budget to get items of Pre Columbian style imagery. This is nay be up to 50-60 years old tops and has a man playing flute motif. The Latin and pre Columbians loved music and rhythms for ceremony and fun. It's hard to go to a South American City and not seeing men playing a variety of flutes. Many flutes were made in pottery and played quite well despite taking the forms of many animals. It is amazing how these artisans could make such non standardized pieces that carried notes. This piece about 2 inches long. Intact clasp and could even be made a pendant. A nice item for a change of pace. On the under surface is printed the phrase"art museum relic" which is likely where this came from. I don't know what culture this represents but I think I have seen it in Inca. This wonderful example of pre Columbian Chimu art was acquired at the estate sale of a long time collector and art dealer. Features the Incan corn deity with corn protruding from his shoulders and head. It's a beautiful blackware piece. The daughter of the collector believed it had been authenticated but had no paperwork. Still had the gallery price tag on it. The research I've done certainly shows this to be a rare item. Pre-Incan Pre-Columbian Artifacts Chimu Chancay Backstrap Loom with 3 Textiles
The story of these 3 artifacts began off of the coast of Peru near the town of Chimbote sometime between 1000 A.D. and 1500 A.D. They are believed to have belonged to a weaver from the Chimu or Chancay Civilization. As they have strong similarities to other textiles from these people. Being a people of the sea. Chimu designs often depict fish, pelicans, and sea otters. This loom textile depicts pelicans, in a tile design often used. The Chimu Civilization was the largest civilization to thrive in Peru. Just before the Inca came to power around 1500 A.D. Just as today. Life near Chimbote, in the great City of Chan Chan in the Chimu period, revolved around the sea and trade goods. Fine textiles were prized as status symbols of wealth and power. And traded for goods found only in the interior regions of Peru. Women who excelled at the art of ... moreweaving lived in better housing within the City of Chan Chan. And were provided with the best food and care. They made tunics. Loin cloths, and carry bags for the politicians and elite, and for trade to bring in the best goods for the elite. Other women weavers lived outside of the City. And made clothing and bags for the general population. These 3 artifacts were uncovered deep in the ground near Chimbote in the early 1960's. This ancient backstrap loom still has its unfinished textile mounted on the loom. The smallest textile artifact is believed to be the remnants of a shoulder strap to a purse. The larger is part of a shawl. The tight weave and detail of these textiles is fascinating. And they are in wonderful condition for being centuries old. The blue and red colors of the pelicans on the loom are still so bright after so many centuries. You can see the very spot. Where this ancient woman stopped her weaving. All 3 pieces are beautifully mounted within lucite and wood cases just as they were found near Chimbote. At the bottom of the loom is mounted her spool of thread found nearby. Probably a mixture of spun Alpaca fur. Cotton, and Vicuna fur- a type of small Camel. Be

Incan/Mayan Pottery Head Mounted Onyx Stone Paperweight: Female w Hat Up for auction is a unique piece I purchased at an estate auction. I'm definitely not an expert in the art of antiquities pottery so I'll describe best I can but please use the photos and your knowledge to help figure what this piece is and it's age. As I don't know if it's original or a reproduction. There's a pottery head of a female with an ornate headpiece. My guess is that it is Mayan or Incan. It's 2" tall and 1.5" at its widest. It's been mounted in definite modern times to a 2" square of white onyx stone that is 3/4" thick as a paperweight. The pottery is in nice condition. The onyx has some chips and nicks on some corners as in the photos. Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple ... morejobs and can only ship one day a week. Hi. I have 2 Incan pottery figures for auction. The larger figure is an Incan pan flute player. He has an Incan hat necklace. The lower half of this figure was repaired and has some loses. The smaller figure has ear spools. a nose ring, and pectoral. This figure has a hole going all the way through it that was done in ancient times, maybe for mounting it for some ceremonial purpose.
