$8.85 Shipping Location: Watsonville, United States PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR Very unusual authentic pottery head fragment that is difficult to identify as to the subject. It apprears ... moreto be an animal with a long snout. Some of which is missing, and the remains of two horns on the back of the head. Since it is wearing a rather ornate headdress it might be an zoomorphic representation of a Shaman but there is not enough of the figure to make any kind of distinction. The headress has the remains of red paint and there are pieces missing. The cheeks are puffed out, some of the figures have puffed heeks attributed to chewing of coca leaves but that is doubtful for an animal and possible or a Shaman. The clay color is mottled grayish tan. Some fine crystaline deposits evident in the clay. One cheek is depressed as it it were done before firing or collapsed after firing as it is not broken. There is a small firing hole at the top of the head and the head is hollow. It is 2 3/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches across the front. The base where it is broken is a circle 1 3/4 inches in diameter with a hole that is 3/4 inches in diameter. It will sit flat as it is in most of the photographs or will mount nicely. It was in a private collection from Eccuador with La Tolita and Jamacoaque fragments but since I am not an expert I cannot positively identify the culture or the exact age. These two cultures span from 300 B.C. to 1000 A.D. This is not a reproduction.

Nicely carved, the fragmentary panel depicting the head and upper torso of a man with bald head, probably a Buddhist monk, dressed in a robe and turned to the left, both of his arms raised and joined hear his mouth, perhaps holding an object or clasped together in a gesture of prayer. The stone of a medium grey color with considerable iron colored oxidation to the surface due to mineral content. Gandhara is the name of an ancient kingdom located in northern Pakistan and eastern Afghanistan. Gandhara was located mainly in the vale of Peshawar. The Potohar plateau and on the Kabul River. Its main cities were Purushapura(modern Peshawar) literally meaning City of Man and Takshashila(modern Taxila) The Kingdom of Gandhara lasted from the early 1st millennium BC to the 11th century CE and was at it's height from the 1st through 5th century under the Buddhist Kushan Kings. Dimensions: 5.9" high x 6" wide x 3" deep(15cm x 15.2cm x 7.6cm) Weight: 3.25 lbs. Condition: Overall. The fragment is in fair/good condition with appropriate signs of age. The surface nicely worn and with heavy oxidation to the stone from years of exposure and handling. The edges of the carving with multiple chips and losses to the stone(primarily along the outer edges) including a loss to the front of the right arm. The base is uneven(slightly tippy) but stands upright. Please see photos below for an accurate depiction of the condition. We purchased this group of stone heads and a petrified or stone sea shell almost 20 years ago from the estate of a local well-known"rock hound" in Oklahoma. We have taken very good care of these Mayan artifacts while they have been in our care. I have a Dime in most of the pictures as a size reference so you can see these are small to tiny heads and artifacts. Four of the Heads appear to be wearing large hoop or loop earrings and have a"head dress" on. There is also an Animal Head and a"fish scales" piece as well as the Shell stone(we don't know if this is a real Petrified Sea Shell or something the Mayans made to look like a shell) Please check out all the pictures on our collection. Lot Black Lace Fragments Antique + Net Lace Red Green Floral Head Scarf Wrap
Beautiful Net Black lace scarf or shawl with colorful flowers and leaves. It's a triangle shape and it's 39" wide and 18" long. The colored leaves and flowers look to be silk. There are 2 very small holes that I have pictured. It's absolutely lovely and the colors are vibrant. It looks like there is hand stitching on the flowers. Plus 4 pieces of black lace Victorian lace. Two matching in design pieces that measure about 19' by 8" and 26" by about 4 1/2" Another piece 18" by 3" and one is round could have been part of a sleeve about 14" by 6" They are in nice condition.
