This sign will be created for you. Hello and Merry November! Thanks you so much for stopping by to see my Tavern Sign! This offering is for my R Chadwick Inn sign. All of my signs are copies of originals that are displayed in museums and private collections. No two are exactly alike for they are all hand painted. This sign measures approx 3ft x 2ft with a 2" frame nice and big like the original. Also it was created on a board starting as a pencil sketch then painted with layers of acrylic paints. All of my signs have texture as if the paint raised a bit because of being out in the elements. They are also distressed to look old and stained to look a bit dingy. I always use wax over the entire piece for preservation. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery. This sign will be created for you, Thank you. Here is a bit of history about tavern signs. What is a tavern sign? The term designates a popular category of early American folk art. Typically consisting of a wooden signboard painted on both sides with a combination of images and words and equipped with hand-forged, often decorative, iron hardware for hanging. Tavern signs originated from the practical need to identify dwellings licensed to provide entertainment to travelers–entertainment being the period term for essential services, including food, drink, and lodging, as well as feed and stabling for horses. Today’s comparable establishments(roadside restaurants. Motels, gas stations) are generally recognizable as distinctive building types, but colonial taverns and inns were literally“public houses. These were ordinary dwellings licensed to accommodate strangers. How could an out-of-towner find such a home-away-from

Rare 18th Early 19th C Iron Betty Lamp Lighting Device with Trammel Rushlight NR Description: A Rare 18th Century Wrought Iron Adjustable Pan Lamp Up ... morefor your bidding consideration is this wonderful mid to late 18th. Early 19th century grease lamp complete with it's original adjustable trammel mechnism. Circa 1760-1810. Similiar examples can be seen in the Rushlight Club's book Early Lighting as well as other references on Colonial period metalware and interior furnishings. The bottom pan of the piece would have been filled with grease or oil with a burning rush reed placed into the pan. Additionally a small open pan lamp could be placed on the bottom with the pan acting as a platform. We found a small open pan lamp with the piece thats slightly later(likely mid 19th century) and are including it with this auction. As you can see the piece is complete with it's original ratchinging trammel mechanism. Allowing the user to vary the length of the piece to meet various illumination needs. In it's shortest state the piece measures 29" in length. Expandable to 41" The pan itself measures 6"x 2 3/4" x 3/8" Some slight pitting and oxidation expected from age though overall a very good++/near fine example. Click the images and you'll see great signs of period blacksmith made construction design and original condition. A rare piece of early lighting sure to be a great addition to any Colonial or Country decorum or collection. Five day auction- no reserve and a low starting bid! Thanks for visiting us here at Foxrun-Farms. Now in our 15th year on ebay!

1929 GIRL SCOUTS LOAN EXHIBITION OF AMERICAN FURNITURE GLASS PAINTINGS ANTIQUES
Loan Exhibition of Eighteenth Century and Early Nineteenth Century Furniture& Glass. Portraits by Stuart. Peale and others, for the Benefit of the National Council of Girl Scouts, Inc. Published in New York by American Art Galleries in 1929. DISCUSSION: The importance of the Girl Scouts Loan Exhibition cannot be overstated. Although sometimes it seems it has become something of a cliché. Simply put, it was the most important and richest loan exhibition of American antique furniture and other decorative arts ever staged to be drawn in large part from private collections; although it did not start the popularization of American antiques, it contributed largely to its continued success and gave both scholars and collectors new focus; it brought a large number of prominent dealers and collectors together in a way which had not been accomplished ... moresince the Hudson-Fulton exhibition of 1909; it provided the first broad popular showing of American Federal-period antiques; finally, it inspired an enthusiasm which gave impetus to new books, catalogs and research. The Girl Scout Exhibition is seen by many as the starting point for all serious modern scholarship in the fields of American decorative arts. The catalog features illustrations of fine furniture, textiles, glass, ceramics and paintings, drawn from notable collections from across the country. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8"x11" 926 items, hundreds of black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Newly bound into hardcovers with most of the original front cover bound in. Minor wear. CARTER'S GROVE PLANTATION HOUSE- AMERICAN & ENGLISH ANTIQUES at AUCTION in 2008
An Interesting Auction Catalog- The Contents of Carter’s Grove” The catalog to an auction held in Portsmouth by Northeast Auctions on May 17. 2008. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The sale of antique American and English furniture and accessories collected by Archibald and Molly McCrea when they owned Carter’s Grove in the 1930s and 40s. The 400-acre estate on the James River near Williamsburg features a magnificent Georgian house built for Carter Burwell in 1755. And after“hundreds of years of multiple owners and generations of families, and the death of the last resident in 1964, Carter's Grove was added to Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's(CW) properties through a gift from the Rockefeller Foundation in 1969. Carter's Grove was open to tourists for many years but closed its doors to the public in 2003 ... morewhile its mission and role in CW's programs were redefined. In December 2007, the Georgian style mansion and 476 acres were acquired for $15.3 million by CNET founder Halsey Minor, who has announced plans to use the property as a private residence and a center for a thoroughbred horse breeding program with the Phipps family. Parts 1 through 6” GALLERY/ DATE: New York; Parke-Bernet Galleries: April 26th. 1944 through February 16th, 1945(six sessions) DISCUSSION: One of the largest and most distinguished collections of American furniture and decorative accessories ever assembled by one person. Mrs. Haskell spent 60 years putting it together. And it took six sales to disperse it. The American furniture falls into what Leslie Hyam, in his introduction to the catalogs, terms the"decisive hundred years" 1730-1830. It includes the largest and most complete collection of Philadelphia seating furniture ever assembled privately, and examples of the best pieces of many other types, largely of Pennsylvania and New Jersey origin. The"country" furniture included ... morea magnificent selection of Pennsylvania and New England windsors. There were also 50 cabinetmakers' models. And much, much, much more. AMERICAN 17th CENTURY FURNITURE -NUTTING 1921 Classic Pilgrim Century Antiques
Furniture of the Pilgrim Century 1620-1720. Including colonial utensils and hardware” By Wallace Nutting. Published in Boston by Marshall Jones Company in 1921. DISCUSSION: The first book published on the subject of American 17th century furniture. Like all Nutting books. Caution is required in figuring out where the good examples end and the restored or re-manufactured examples begin. This book was beset by controversy almost from the start, as within a year a broadside was circulated by an ironworker stating that he had made many of the examples of ironwork illustrated by Nutting. Still, as with other Nutting books, the sheer volume of furniture illustrated, as well as the important place these volumes have occupied in the literature for over three-quarters of a century, make them worth having. Ames& Ward 1. Speaking of both editions ... moreof the title(which were different enough to really qualify as two different books) notes that they"occasionally contain nuggets of information of use to modern researchers" DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8"x11" 587 pages, hundreds of black& white illustrations. With the ownership stamp of Alfred Easton Poor. Alfred Easton Poor[1899-1988] was an American architect. The designer of the Wright Brothers National Memorial, and president of the National Academy of Design in New York from 1966 to 1977. He was involved with many buildings and projects in New York City and Washington, D.C. and has been called"one of America's most prominent twentieth century architects" and a"prominent member of the international school of modern architecture" CONDITION NOTES: The covers and spine have some wear(please see the photo) Some light soil inside. Very Early American Hand-blown Carafe circa 1750 Appraised on Antiques Roadshow
This carafe was appraised and evaluated by Antiques Roadshow and dated circa 1750. It is hand blown and shaped. It valued at auction for $750.00. There are markings such as very small lines and bubbles within the glass that are specific to the very early Amerian glass blowers. There appears to be a tiny inner crack in the neck near the lip as shown in the third picture. It is a beautiful piece and remarkably well preserved. There are no chips or cracks other than what I have mentioned. The wear on the piece is all on the bottom as I have pictured. It is a heavy piece weighing 3.2 lbs. It stands 9 inches tall and the widest part of the bowl measures 6 inches across. I will pay insurance on the shipping since it is such a valuable piece. Thanks for looking!

In no case will my buy it now price be more than to 50 to 75 percent lower than what I believe the current value to be(and yes I could be wrong, I will leave you to judge that) Israel Sack a premier dealer in fine and rare American Antiques. I do believe that he began in Boston and later relocated to New York. Three of his sons Donald, Harold and Albert Sack are also dealers and authors in fine American Antiques. If memory serves me right Albert a few short years ago, while attending a Sotheby's auction in New York paid a little over $8,000,000(thats right 8 million dollars) for a Boston tea table, with Brown family provenance. Later saying it is good to buy the very best! None the less, Israel, his father must have taught him very well. 1980~Turtlecreek Potters~SIGNED Redware~"American Country Antiques" Platter
From the late 1970’s through the early 1990’s I was an antiques dealer and a collector of primitives. Folk art, Amish dolls and toys, rustics and things that are difficult to find today. I have been strictly a private collector since 1991, but am no longer accumulating so now wish to find good homes for the items I have loved and cared for the last 40 years. I will be listing things often from my personal collection that were never part of my sales inventory when I was a dealer. Each was garnered individually and every piece has lived in a Smoke-Free. Pet-Free home for 4 decades. While I am not offering returns because I am no longer in business. I will stand behind the age and descriptions of everything I put up for sale and will guarantee that each item is neither a fake nor a reproduction which is a guarantee you would be hard-pressed ... moreto find elsewhere. I will include the provenance(if known) including my name. My background and the above information along with the item’s description on the receipt to every winner. See the other items I have up now from this same collection. S ave my eBay ID if you would be interested in seeing my future listings. Thanks so much for looking and Good Luck! DESCRIPTION: I custom ordered this great redware platter in the early 1980's to use as a sign to display in my booth when I did antique shows back then. It has been displayed in my home since 1991. It is 14" x 10" in size. SIGNED: Mary Spellmire. Vintage.from the days at Turtlecreek Potters before Greg and Mary Shooner married and went into business on their own. This would be perfect for the dealer or collector of country primitives. Absolutely perfect condition. No chips or cracks. Just normal mold marks on the back. The signature is hard to see in the photos but if you use the mouse it is to the top left of the stamped pottery mark. And the white marks on the front are just from the flash. It's time to give this great piece a new home. Good Luck!
ANTIQUE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS & CRAFTS, ANTIQUES - Ralph Coe Collection
The Responsive Eye: Ralph T. Coe and the Collecting of American Indian Art" By Ralph T. Coe. Published in New York by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2003. DISCUSSION: Published in conjunction with the exhibition"The Responsive Eye: Ralph T. Coe and the Collecting of American Indian Art" Over the past three decades. Ralph T. Coe has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada to assemble this collection of Native American art, one of the finest in private hands today. Immersed in the cultures of Native America, he has come to know artists and artisans, traders, dealers, and shop proprietors, selecting the very best they have to offer. The Ralph T. Coe Collection includes representative pieces from most Native American geographic regions and historical periods. Beginning with objects dating back to the fourth ... moremillennium B.C. Many examples—men's shirts with ermine fringe, weapons, and button blankets—evoke the heroic lifestyle of the past, while small objects, such as tipi and kayak models, dolls, and tiny moccasins, speak to a more intimate significance. Ritual objects imbued with spiritual meaning—masks and katsinas, tablitas and medicine bundles—as well as utilitarian objects, such as pottery and baskets, also have a strong presence. This catalogue tells the stories of nearly two hundred of these objects, combining art history with personal reminiscence, and reveals the role Coe has played in bringing about awareness of the artistic heritage of Native America. An Interesting Auction Catalog- Highly Important Americana from the Stanley Paul Sax Collection” The catalog to an auction held in New York by Sotheby's on January 16-17th. 1998. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The auction of the superlative collection of this well-known and discerning collector of fine American furniture. Silver and related antiques including textiles, portrait miniatures, clocks and prints. The catalog includes an appreciation of Sax by Wendell Garrett, from which we quote several passages- Modest. Unpretentious, and studious, Stan Sax was good company. To the collecting of American antiques he brought an insatiable curiosity, a pursuit of thoroughness and excellence, and an unquenchable thirst for new intellectual adventures. He was the paragon of a collector- a self of unlimited dimensions; a ... morehugely talented, searching, contemplative, daring, visionary, understanding connoisseur-a gentle personality that inspired friendship and a character that justified confidence. He was taken from us at seventy-one, in the prime of his seniority; it hurts to think of what he would have done with more time, but it also helps to remember how fully he used the time he had. He was an expert authority and passionate collector of high-style American furniture and silver who valued things of beauty with which he surrounded himself, whether books, paintings, or other decorative arts. He had that primary personal attribute for the connoisseur of decorative arts which Charles Montgomery termed, a good visual memory stored with an infinite number of images of ordinary, fine, and superior objects mentally pigeonholed for desirability' Stan was a generous benefactor of gifts to the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the United States Department of State and the Detroit institute of Arts, and was active in the affairs of the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Henry Ford Museum, and the Friends of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ANTIQUES & ARTS, PEABODY MUSEUM EXHIBITION CATALOG
Gifts of the Spirit. Works by Nineteenth Century& Contemporary Native American Artists” By Dan L. Monroe. Et al. Published in Salem by the Peabody Essex Museum in 1996. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The Library Journal notes- The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. Massachusetts, has only recently made its notable holdings of American Indian art accessible to the public. The celebratory first exhibition also produced this permanent collection catalog. Masterworks were chosen by five curators(several of whom are well-known Native American literary figures) to show the affinity between 19th-century and modern artistic expression. While the works are superbly photographed, the text is less consistent, with some anecdotes more cogent than others. Attempts to unify dialog about artifacts from many cultures and all media vary, ... moredepending on the writer's point of view. Still, the book offers invaluable historical documentation. Most useful are the quotes and perspective based on Native thought, exemplifying a trend toward interpretation of Native art objects by Native Americans that is welcome. Although this is an important addition for specialized library collections, the rich range of text and images will also interest general readers wanting to know more about the arts within Indian culture. ANTIQUE AMERICAN FURNITURE & ANTIQUES - BAYOU BEND IMA HOGG COLLECTION
American Decorative Arts and Paintings in the Bayou Bend Collection” By David B. Warren. Michael K. Brown, Elizabeth Ann Coleman, Emily Ballew Neff. Published by the Museum of Fine Arts. Houston in 1998. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: A stunning. Oversized catalog of this important collection, including furniture, art, textiles, silver, ceramics and glass. The'Bayou Bend Collection' was assembled by Ima Hogg. A collector of American arts during the first"Golden Age" from the 1920s through the 1950s. Bayou Bend is the former home of Houston philanthropist Ima Hogg. The mansion, designed by architect John F. Staub, was built between 1927 and 1928 for Ima Hogg and her brothers, William C. and Michael Hogg. Miss Hogg created a series of gardens that were intended as outdoor rooms for living and entertaining. ... moreIn 1957, Miss Hogg donated her home and her collection to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Bayou Bend opened to the public in 1966. Staub's plan for Bayou Bend combined eighteenth-century Georgian architecture with elements that are distinctly Southern and of Spanish Creole architecture. The collection at Bayou Bend presently consists of approximately 4,700 objects that reflect historic and stylistic periods from 1620 to 1870 installed in some 28 period room settings that showcase American decorative arts from 1620 through 1870. Miss Hogg began assembling this important collection of American decorative arts in 1920. To provide suitable settings for these extraordinary antiques. Staub designed simple but stately interiors in the style of colonial American rooms. In 1920, while sitting for a portrait by artist Wayman Adams, Miss Hogg admired a simple armchair belonging to the artist that was made in colonial America and later obtained a similar Queen Anne chair for herself. Almost half a century later, Miss Hogg acquired the very same chair that she had first seen in Adams' studio. From the time I acquired my first Queen Anne armchair in 1920, I had an unaccountable
