Antique Wooden Cobbler's Vise - Single Family-Owned - Civil War Era - Primitive
My great-great grandfather. Who fought in the Civil War, was originally a cobbler. Through the various generations this wooden item formerly used in making/mending shoes/boots has followed us from home-to-home and it is time to purge large items. It appears that the wood was painted(not sure if by him) at some point. It is sturdy but could be a little brittle from age. I did not turn the wooden screw or wipe it down just in case. This mirror is a genuine and rare antique that was used by a northern courtesan during the American Civil War. Passed down to her relatives throughout the years. The story goes it was given to her by a southern officer as a gift. How romantic! This is a vintage antique personal pocket mirror with hand painted porcelain back. The mirror is set in an ornate silver toned filigree frame. It has a faux jade handle that is a light green celadon color. The intricate hand painting is on a porecelain raised base. Antique Civil War era stereo optic viewer circa 1860s
Hello! New Ebay seller here. Avid Civil War enthusiast and collector of some 30+ years with a particular interest in Abraham Lincoln. Served as a docent at the Lincoln Shrine in Redlands, California for 13 years. Have visited every major Civil War battlefield and many of the minor, granted VIP tour of the Lincoln tomb in Springfield Illinois. Hopefully this information will sufficiently support the authenticity of these items, all of which were purchased on my many travels to these various cites. I had originally planned on passing my collection down to one of my sons, however neither of them seem to have much of an interest.
