TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Nicely Preserved Genuine 15th ... moreor 16th Century Ming Dynasty“Sancai” Glazed Ceramic Statuette of a Horse and Rider. CLASSIFICATION: Sancai Glazed Ceramic Statuette. ATTRIBUTION: Ancient China. Ming Dynasty, 15th or 16th Century. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 278 millimeters(11 1/8 inches) Length: 232 millimeters(9 1/3 inches) Breadth: 99 millimeters(4 inches) Base: 150 x 74 millimeters(6 inches x 3 inches) 12 millimeters(1/2 inch) in thickness. CONDITION: Very good. Minor porcelain chips. There are minor chips in the porcelain glaze at the rider’s right front shoulder; to the rider’s waist, behind, center; to the back side of the horse’s right leg; at the edge of the horse’s stomach, right side, center; and at the rider’s left elbow. There is as well a scattering of minute porcelain chips throughout, and the top of the horse’s right ear is also chipped. Other than cleaning, there has been no restoration work. The minor chips could be repaired, without additional cost, if you would like our conservator to repair the chips. There remains some mild soil adhesions, small areas where soil still adheres to the statuette, despite our best efforts to clean away all soil adhesions. Of course the paint has decomposed and is powdery in those areas where the statuette was merely painted(not glazed) the rider’s head, boot, and hands. Precolumbian head #11, Teotihuacán, Central Mexico, ceramic, prob.1,500+ yrs old
Precolumbian head from Teotihuacán. Mexico(1) Precolumbian. Sculpted, ceramic head; most likely 500 A.D. or older(That is 1,000 years or more before Cortez invaded Mexico and conquered the Aztecs. The Aztecs, who arrived in the Valley of Mexico long after Teotihuacán was abandoned, named the ruins Teotihuacán- place of the gods. The Aztecs and the Greeks had the same word for gods- teo. 2) Dimensions. approximately 1 inch by 1" by half an inch" I apologize for not providing metric dimensions. I live in a country that clings to ancient English measuring systems instead of the clearly superior and much more functional metric system. 3) Medium. clay. Hard fired under great heat. 4) Provenance. I found this head(and other heads) in a farmer's field near the center of the ruins of Teotihuacán. Near Mexico City, ... morein 1966 or 1967, when I was an anthropology major at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. Generally, these farmers' fields were rocky and dusty but rain would wash the dust off the rocks and reveal that some of them had faces- and were terracotta heads and not rocks. Many times, after a rain, I would take a bus from Mexico City to Teotihuacán, explore the farmers' fields, and look for those features that were not visible when covered with dust. In this way, I acquired dozens of precolumbian heads. How to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: 1) provinance; know the source; 2) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; 3) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. Views of this red head show front and back.

Fragment about 3" as pictured on a stand as discovered at estate auction overall about 5" Not sure if stone or ceramic or terra cotta but it IS OLD This item was purchased from a multi generation estate auction in Bucks County Pa. Pre-Columbian Tumaco La Tolita Ceramic Head Colombia Ecuador
For your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is a Pre-Columbian Ceramic Head from the La Tolita Culture in the Tumaco Region. The region encompassed areas of both Ecuador and Colombia so placing the exact location is normally difficult. A snake is seen protruding from the mouth and wrapped around to the top of the head. There is a hole in the back of the head and both Ear Spools appear to have been repaired at some point(see photos) that is not noticeable from the front and really only noticeable if you turn it around and then upside down. The head rests on a custom made wooden stand which is included in the auction. The right side of the forehead has red paint on the frontal lobe which has faded with time. Please ... morenote. Pre-Columbian Face Portrait Head Trophy vessel w TL Test Doc! ceramic terracotta
Great cup in the form of trophies head. The special thing. And for that Moche ceramics are known, the representations of real character. The right eye looks normal, the left looks like it would be blind and covered by a cap. Or there is a breach by a fight. What is known, however, that physical abnormalities were honored and presented in part as a sign from the gods. The head has a nice haircut and earplugs, behind the ears are still remains of a helmet or similar. The processing is relatively massive and coarse, a typical sign of the late Moche. Small discontinuations(nose, edge of spout) bumps on the surface, otherwise in good condition age related. Very interesting portrait face head warrior mug with wonderful details; the eyes are wide and are under the influence of drugs. In the mouth, he holds a predator bite of Ai Apaec. You are bidding on a large vessel head of Veracruz Maya culture; you look at the head of it can be seen that there is either a trophy head or around a sacrificial ritual. pre-Columbian head face portrait ritual beaker wTL test Doc! Ai Apaec ceramic
You are bidding on a ritual cup with the head of Ai Apaec. The creator and destroyer god of the ancient cultures, often referred to as the main deity or mountain deity. Typical of the deity are the animal-like features like fangs. At the age of ceramics is to realize that it not only is a Moche Deity, but also after the fall of the Moche was still apply. I myself am not a fan of this limitation of the cultures dating. Each culture(but pre-Columbian) has its charming ceramics! Small chipping at the edge and foot, otherwise in good condition; Ceramics and representations of Ai Apaec are very popular with collectors and almost always generate high collector's prices. PRE COLUMBIAN MAYAN Miniature Ceramic HEAD ~ OBSIDIAN ARROWHEAD ARTIFACT
In the early 1970's a friend of mine purchased this from someone who went on a dig in Mexico and made this Mayan miniature artifact ceramic head with hanging obsidian arrow into a wearable piece of art. The head measures about 1 3/4" high by 1 5/8" wide. Nicely detailed piece. The obsidian arrowhead measures approximately 1 1/4" by 7/8" and it's nice and shiny Easy to separate into head and arrowhead. Pre-Columbian Classic Huastec CERAMIC FIGURE HEAD: ca:200-900 AD
SquareTrade © AP6.0 Here's a very nice HUMAN EFFIGY FIGURE of the HUASTEC CULTURE Classic Period(ca; 200-900 AD) from Mexico's Coastal Lowlands near Vera Cruz. It's 1 3/4 in. 4.3cm) tall. 1 1/8 in. 2.8cm) wide and 3/4 in. 2.0cm) thick. It's very nicely made of fired tan clay(terracotta) and in excellent condition. These ancient terracotta figures were common everyday items in these Middle-American Pre-Columbian cultures. This one has punctate eyes, flat nose and small mouth. It has both earspools, a necklace and a fancy hair style. It was broken from a larger figure thousands of years ago. The fragments were thrown into rivers, sinkholes and fields in the hope of ensuring crop fertility, or as offerings to the gods.
