Wonderful large bowl olla shaped Pre-Coumbian vessel/bowl that is solid and has no cracks or chips. Good carved markings surround the neck of vessel. Scattered mineral deposits and it has a strong earthy smell when dampened inside. There are no really clear root markings. The color variations and darkening of surface areas typical of old fired vessel. Nice coarse texture and it is sturdy. A great basic piece for any collection. Great price for this item. It is 51/2 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter. A very pleasing shape and proportioned piece. This figure dates to approx 350 BC. Ceramic figurines and vessels in this shape of human form are representative of the Jama Coaque culture. It developed around the San Isidoro sector in the North of the Manabi province in Ecuador. It is well preserved with growth deposits however there are some losses. Ie. the thumb on the right hand. Ear and nose rings half remaining. However, the large necklace with a half moon pendent is still intact. Much of the colour is preserved on this figure, which is rare. Jama Coaque ceramic figures are usually bulky as in this case, and usually have round faces with wide fronts and noses and big eyes. Much emphasis is placed on ... morepersonal appearance as they feature deliberate cranial deformations, sophisticated dress and head-dress, and a wide variety of ornaments including nose ornaments and ear spools. This is a great piece of rare Chimu art with two birds looking over their shoulder. There appears to be a tiny monkey sitting against the spout. Authentic piece of Pre Columbian pottery vessel with unusual form. Good condition with the usual surface scratches. There is a small 1 inch chip or crack behind one bird' swing but not full thickness. The black ware seems enhanced by a brownish tint in places on the glaze. Great collectors item from Peru. The Chimus came along just before the Incas and were defeated by the Incas but left wonderful art. Ht. 9 inches. Width and length 6 inches. The kettle measures 9" tall by 8" round. That doesn't include the spout. The teapot kettle has some small dents and marks but it's still very solid. There aren't any cracks or chips. Antiquities, From Panama A huge pot stand Circa 1000-1500AD
From PreColumbian Panama this is a very large and tall bowl stand. It really lacks any obvious style markers that would date it. I would assume app 1000-1500AD. Panama bowl. Jar and vases for the most part were round bottomed allowing them to sit squarely in loose sand or dirt or on a bowl stand such as this. You don't see them offered frequently and this is the largest one I saw while completing my collection. It appears to be repaired out of many pieces with restoration over the cracks. It stands about thirteen and one half inches tall and app seven inches across at the base. It weighs a little over four pounds. Ancient Peru, Moche ovoid pottery jar or bottle 200 to 800 AD antiquities
A Moche/possibly early Chimu ovoid jar with a mold face. Pierced ears and a decorated area of some kind of creature with sharp teeth. Ribbons out of mouth would seem to indicate a religious significance for the pot. It is seven inches tall, six inches across at longest side and four inches deep. Semi rounded bottom. This appears to be intact. It would probably date fairly late in the Moche period, possibly 600 to 800 AD. This is from an old collection. Provenance will be provided to the buyer. In spite of being from an old collection, sale outside the United States would be problematic. Therefore I will only accept bids from the US. MORTAR & PESTLE RIVER ROCK GRINDING BOWL "ANTIQUITIES" 2 PESTLES, HEAVY & OLD!
Fabulous items that are beyond"vintage" Real ANTIQUITIES! These items are from the EXTREME NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COASTAL REGION. The listing is for a MORTAR AND PESTLE RIVER ROCK GRINDING BOWL, and it comes with Two Pestles. Each Pestle is of the same material as the Mortar and both came with the Mortar as well-each Pestle looks to have served as different grinding functions. The River Rock was at one time a Very Large"Round Rock. This"Bowl" has history and personality! It is somewhat"crude" But it is also somewhat"smooth"definitely Not"smooth" in the factory sense of the term or composition. There are a couple of large areas where the outer layer has broken off, which is shown in the photos. This just exposes the underlying layer of rock, which really accents the age and history of the ... morepiece. It does Not make the Mortar less"fragile. This Mortar is so heavy and solid, one may need a good sledgehammer just to get at this piece! If it is dropped, watch your foot! The"rim" of the Mortar is"smooth" and uneven.you can rest either of the Pestle's on the"grooves. The inside of the Mortar has been"scooped" out, obviously for"grinding. It is"smooth" from usage, and you can see all of the natural formation and texture of the rock. Please look at the many photos provided that offer an excellent look of the entire Mortar, including the Mortar upside down. The Mortar sits nicely. It is 6 1/2" high at its lowest side and 8" at its highest. The Mortar ranges from 7" to 8" across at different areas; the inside of the Mortar has an approx. 11" depth going down and across. And is approx. 4" deep. The Mortar is 29" around at the center; it is solid and thick. The smaller Pestle is a"ring" type tool. Ancient Alien? Moche IV-V Figure of Eagle Warrior ; Antiquities
Offered here is a museum piece from a private collection. A.D. 600-750. Northern coast of Peru. This is a portrait vessel of a Moche god holding a shield and a club. He has wings and the head of an eagle. His eyes are a bronze color. And he wears the clothing of a Moche warrior This is a large pottery figure measuring: 14 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide. This is a rare artifact. There are only two known to exist.
