ANTIQUE CIVIL WAR GUN POWDER FLASK HORN 1842 CARVED WOOD HISTORY
A Powder Horn dated 1842. With sort of story engraved on it, with the artist/soldier/hunters personal information, date etc. on it also. Very cool pictorial of a bear hunt, bear fight showing a man standing with rifle and a man on horse with revolver shooting at a big bear while one animal lies apparently killed by the bear and another one in on the fight. The engraved info on the left of the fight is: BEAR FIGHT IN, GREEN MOUNTAINS, JO TAYLOR, BERT TOMPSON, 1842, BRANDON V.T. Then what appears to be the artist mark or family crest or something with the initials, B.T. under it. The top of the horn looks like wood, and the stopper looks like wood. There is a line that looks like a slight crack. Looks like a neat piece of history to me, came from a batch of things from a civil war collector. The Singing Throat was Starr Piano Co.s secret weapon to gain the biggest market share of the early phonograph market, which was dominated by RCA Victor. Overall measures 20" tall. The horn measures 15 1/8" wide and 9" deep. These were known for their deep, rich and amazing sound. This sound, at the time, was unsurpassed. Overall condition is excellent with the exception of someone who wasn't thinking did some sanding on the original manufacturer's sticker and logo. Sticker and logo can still be read, however. There were eight different models of the horn but I'm not sure which model this item is. If you place sound behind the horn at the feed hole, it still sounds amazing and fills ... morethe room with sound. We have been in antiques for 20 years and we have never seen one. We really have no idea what the value of this is. If we are low, you get a deal; if we are high, make an offer on it if you want it and shipping is free to you. To me, it is fairly expensive. There was a slight strengthening of the indigenous population, which prevailed in the holy festivals. Now, the indigenous fell not completely back to their old rituals, it was too long, the influence by the Catholic Church. There was a mix of old and new faith. Formerly hostile tribes and warriors were imitated and provoked; now it was the Spaniards themselves, the Spanish character and especially her looks were shown greatly exaggerated and distorted in part, and this was also characterized in these masks off. Even today you can see in some cities and towns. For example, on this Day of the Dead customs in Central America. Where it is not uncommon to brutal intermediate shocks. This is the third of three pairs of stirrups I bought in La Paz Bolivia a number of years ago. IT WAS AN ADVENTURE, BELIEVE ME! You see. It was the weekend and I was bored. So I started out from the hotel in pursuit of small treasures I could bring home. I was thinking coins, stamps, certificates for Land Grants from the King.things like that. Well, I met this tiny little fellow that had super blue eyes and a weird hat. After he told me he had just sold his last Land Grant he asked if I would be willing to walk a few blocks to see his hidden treasure trove. It wasn't raining and he only came up to my belly button so I said sure, why not. Off we went and boy could that little rascal walk. Everyone is out of breathe in La Paz ... morebecause of the altitude but when we got to this garage-like structure I was sure I'd never recover. He told me to wait outside while he turned on the lights. I was praying for a power failure. But when he came back I had recovered both my breathe and dignity so I was ready to venture on in. Talk about cobwebs and dust.this place had never been cleaned. And it was choked full of old furniture. Lamps, paintings and small art items. While the heart and bank account were willing the common sense factor said small, small, small because whatever I bought had to go on the plane. I hate common sense. But that is what I followed so these stirrups are part of the loot I could get in the suitcase. They measure 8" toe to heel and about 7" tall. These are a bit wider. They are wrapped with a metal band that would have attached to the leather strap that would have come from the saddle. I know all this from watching Cowgirl Rodeo. How old are they. I'm 70 and they have more wrinkles than I do so I figure they are a century or two back. This is a wonderful old wood hand carved decorative tumi figure made by a local artisan in Cuzco. Peru. This Pre Columbian artifact replica is represented as the kind of artifact that many Peruvians have hanging in their homes much as we might hang a crucifix or a political figure photo in a government building. The tumi has symbolic and practical meaning for Incas and indigenous population in Peru. It was used in rituals, sacrifice, in surgery and any number of cutting tasks. Usually made of bronze or stone it was also produced in pounded flat copper tumi replicas for currency, or as collectibles. They have now become very popular as a collectors item of Pre Columbian Peruvian artifacts and reminders of ritual usage in ceremonies and inca sacrifices of llamas, but also children and their enemies. I don't know a lot about this. Only that it was purchased from an Antique store owned by a friend about 10 years ago. I have had a few people of Irish decent tell me it is Irish, and others say Spanish. I don't know for sure. The wood is dark, almost like an old Walnut. It is stained from being touched at the feet. Antique Cast Iron Finial Parlor Pot Belly Stove Coal Wood Star and Ruby Her 1912
Up for auction is a Vintage Parlor Stove Finial or Top. I purchased this at an estate sale. The item is in great condition. The items shows a little normal wear on the top where the ring is to open the stove. On the inside it is marked Star and Ruby Her 112/1909. It also has a 8 with a line under it. The inside is full of soot and could use a little wash. It measures less than 15 inches tall and about 12 inches wide. This would make a nice decorative piece. The two handles on the sides are a little loose and there are screws to tighten. Im not familiar with the inside and how these are assembled therefore I don't want to mess with it. I think the top can unscrew but Im not sure. The item appears to be cast iron or as I call it Black Gold. It still has the tab on the inside to hook to stove. Antique Deluxe Apple/ Fruit Peeler Cast Iron& Steel- Victorian Period Country/Region of Manufacture: USA This Peeler was made by Sinclair Scott Co. Baltimore. MD as stamped on the face of the main gear as seen in the pic's. My guess is that it was made as early as the 1880's for there are no patent pending mark. This peeler was made to be counter mounted and has 8 integral cast iron gears and is an engineering marvel to watch it operate. Most peelers only have 3-4 gears. The spring is adjustable with 3 possible settings, to adjust for the size of the fruit. This mechanism operates flawlessly and the decorative detail ... morein the gear face castings and the screw tabs are fantastic. There are no scratches or any other imperfections in the irons finish just all original weathered black iron patina as seen in the pics. The original wood handle is undamaged and the peeler is in excellent original operating condition overall. What a great conversation piece if you have a rustic kitchen decor or a cabin/ lodge.
