This clay vessel depicts several animal effigies. This is a large. Skillfully crafted, Southwestern style, clay artwork in the form of a vessel depicting several animal effigies. There are no cracks or chips and other than the paint being faded, it is in perfect, original condition. This is a large piece, standing over 12 inches tall and almost 12 inches wide. It is the perfect decorator piece to compliment fine, Southwestern or Meso-American decor. I inherited this collection and am not an expert. This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Pre Columbian Aztec maybe.Sorry not great on kind of Relics.part of a few Artifacts I picked up in a storage unit some time ago.He looks very cool about 7" long and 5: wide and has a few nicks in the clay and if you look close the clay is a pinkish color if that helps.Has a Nick on his ear and on mouth and on top of nose. And maybe some very tiny ones but overall he looks good with no other damage, no cracks.Not sure what he;s worth with the damage but will start at a great price.I have a few other pieces I am parting with(Tax Time) soo check em out.
