This fantastic RATTLE HATTED FIGURE( SORRY BUT THE MOCHE CAPS REMIND ME OF SOUTHPARK FIGURES! WAS MADE BY the moche inhabitants of northern peru and dated between 0 and 400 a.d. it is known as nasca pottery which is numbered in scale as it progressed in complicatedeness. This is the second Moche piece I am offering and it is the first time it has been offered for sale since the 1950's! I am familiar with pre-Columbian art both north and south American and have shown this piece to several collectors and a friend who is a liscensed appraiser. Ancient Clay Vessel Pot, Human Figure Holding Items , Extensively Repaired
ANCIENT CLAY VESSEL WITH EMBOSSED FIGURE IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES. EXTENSIVELY REPAIRED AND DAMAGED You are bidding on an ancient pottery vessel. Origin unknown, with a rounded handle and spout and a human figure holding a spear and other objects in panels around the middle of the vessel. It is slightly rounded on the bottom and probably intended to store or carry water or other liquids. The vessel is extensively repaired and glued with one shard still missing from one side and large chips from the rim. The pot is about 11-1/2" tall and 8" in diameter. While the pot is fragile because of the cracks and repairs, it has probably been in that condition for hundreds of years and I think will ship safely with proper packing. An ancient pre-Columbian Nayarit terracotta figure of a seated shaman. Dating to the Proto-Classic period, 100 BC– 250 AD. The male figure is shown seated. Coloured with a deep ochre pigment and wearing only a belt, painted necklace and elaborate headdress. Supported on legs contorted into a seemingly impossible position, the broad, square torso imbues this individual with a domineering physical presence. The small hands are gripped tightly into fists, as if the figure were flexing his muscles whilst shouting. The head is marked by discordant almond eyes, a prominent nose, deep, round mouth and small lips. The ears and nose are pierced with multiple rings. The staring eyes and open mouth of this figure are disturbing yet gripping; appealing in the strangest of ways. Large 10" Tall Pre-Columbian Jalisco Horned Shaman Figure Vessel, Ancient Mexico
A large Pre-Columbian Jalisco horned shaman hollow figure vessel from ancient West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. This example measures approximately 10" tall by about 5 1/2" wide and depicts a seated figure with a prominent horn-like protrusion from his forehead. Such horn-like depictions on figures are believed by scholars to symbolically represent the individual as a shaman. The individual has a false beard-like protrusion from his chin, and is holding an object near his mouth, perhaps a flute-like instrument, pipe or ceremonial object. The object is very heavy due to original sediment from burial remaining inside. Condition: Body is intact. Multiple repairs at the head(but the face area is mostly untouched) with fill/restoration over the break lines around the top. Sides and back of the head, as visible in the photos. Surface ... moreerosion, pigment loss, chipping, abrasions, weathering and wear overall. Heavy sediment deposits remain inside from burial, with traces of root marks and mineral deposits on the surface as evidence of age and authenticity. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. A Nayarit seated figure from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. This piece measures approximately 3 3/4" tall by about 2 1/4" wide, and depicts a seated individual. They are shown cloaked in a blanket with ornate designs indicative of Nayarit artistic sensibilities, wearing large ear and nose ornaments as well as a readdressing featuring a large decorated band. Original pigment remains, revealing geometric designs in white black and orange against a red slip, typical of Ixtlan del Rio variety Nayarit material. A wonderful diminutive example(rare) remaining in excellent condition. Condition: Intact with strong original pigment remaining. Minor abrasions. Weathering, wear and expected pigment loss. She clutches her sides in the pose typical of Nayarit female figures, the gaunt features of the face contrasting with the broad body and exaggerated breasts. Her hair tied up into an elaborate coiffure, she wears three spools in each ear and a thick collar around the neck. This is not only an enchanting piece of pre-Columbian art. It tells the story of Nayarit ritual practices and traditional beliefs. Thanks for stopping by. We have this ancient Pre Columbian head of what appears to be the laughing boy. Its about 800 to 1000 years old. Its only a fragment of what use to be a larger statue. The head measures 3 inches high 3 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches thick. Its in good condition with a museum mounted stand. This piece is guaranteed to be authentic. Hi. I have a cool Mayan brazier incense burner. It has a chamber in back for burning copal incense. There is an opening at the top behind the head that the smoke would come out. There is a residue on the inside of it. It is missing a hand and has some weathering. This was probably used for ceremonial purposes. I'm not sure what type of stone this is, but there are parts that shine like mica. I took a picture of the head to show one of the spots. This figure is bound to the bed which usually means that it was a medial patient. The straps were to hold them down while they were being operated on so that they couldn't move during surgery. Hi. I have an awesome Veracruz Totonac platform figure for auction. This figure is of an old seated man. This great figure was discovered in the ruins of Cerro De La Mesa in Veracruz. This old man came from the Totonac Culture and dates 500-700AD. I have seen other very similar platform figures that were called Coast Watchers. This old figure has large ear spools, a neck ornament, and headdress. When I first bought this many years ago, I thought that half of the headdress was missing. I believe that is the way the headdress was designed to look, as there is no sign of the other part being attached or broken off.
